  1. Doooooo eeeeettttttttt! It's pretty easy to tell after AFF1 if the sport is for you or not. You would be absolutely crazy not to continue your training with such a positive first jump, it only gets better.
  2. Video worked really well for my backsliding along with the coaches input. If you're not already doing it, a bit of time on the creepers with the coach never hurt anyone.
  3. The 170 is definitely too small for your weight especially when going to a zero-p semi-elliptical design. I got a few friends that jump Sabre2's/Safire2/Pilots 190's in your weight range, they're definitely not docile canopies and will hurt you when you make mistakes. So make sure you talk with an instructor or canopy coach when moving to these designs. I jump a Sabre2 170, but I'm 30lbs lighter then you... and even then, I would have been happy flying a 190 and I'm actually regretting it, because bad situations are popping up quite often and these Sabre2's react VERY differently.
  4. Don't worry, I don't even put a seconds thought into my RSL or AAD once they're correctly hooked up/turned on. Just pointing out to a newer jumper that a standard RSL is designed to activate your reserve in a cutaway... the way he worded it sounded like the biggest positive of skyhook is that it does exactly that (activates reserve in a cutaway).
  5. A standard RSL will do the same thing also.
  6. Hah, that's great to watch. I love the bloke that keeps flying directly under the formation and everyone falls in his burble Or the guy that randomly goes into a stand whenever he feels like it. The bear hug/roll is the best bit though, cool collision with the lower jumper that sends him spinning.
  7. I jump a Sabre2 loaded at 1.0 The lift is endless, I haven't come close to running out of toggle stroke, planes out like a piece of cake and pops up anytime I want.
  8. Is this common with people that freefly? Here I was thinking dual soft handles were purely for custom embroidery... I'm being serious.
  9. The single worst canopy habit I've seen is flying home/downwind too early and ending up behind the target. Creates a lot of problems.
  10. I really like my Alti-track. Comfortable, offset viewing angle (don't need to turn wrist), super smooth needle, records all the data from my jumps. Simple to use, auto-zero's in seconds, backlight for night jumping. I like it
  11. This thread is confusing me. I always thought throw away PC's/BOC were safer then spring loaded PC/ripcord setup. I thought PC hesistation was one of the main reasons they ditched the spring loaded PC. As I said, I'm very confused.
  12. All I can say is, it's going to be well worth it Welcome to DZ.com I look foward to reading your first jump post
  13. Woah dude. You should get a google earth picture of your DZ landing area.... powerlines, trailers, volleyball nets and flag poles... sounds like hell. Heal fast.
  14. I stand completely still until they are on final and I know exactly where they are going.
  15. I've set mine to "STU" (student) mode hoping it can pick up the short freefalls. Haven't done a hop n pop since. /fingers crossed.
  16. The 170 is on the dangerous side for your first canopy at your weight, your wingloading would be close to 1.2, I would strongly suggest you do not buy a 170 for your first canopy at your jump numbers. What type of 210 are you flying at the moment? If your instructors think you are ready for a 190, that will be loaded slightly over 1.0 and would be a great sized canopy to buy and play around for your first 100 - 200 jumps. Talk to your instructors, I haven't seen you fly, but I have a few friends in your weight range that started on a 190 and haven't felt the need to downsize till nearly the 200 jump mark. That being said, there's nothing wrong with jumping a 210 at your weight You can always sell the canopy in 50 jumps.
  17. You lost 14lbs in 2 weeks and you're asking if you should stop trying? That's crazy talk! Just keep up the diet/exercise and you will be doing AFF in no time.
  18. Woah, slow down there Phizzie. I sent you a PM, you can access it on the left hand side of your screen.
  19. Welcome to my world It's especially fun when you got a student with a 280 rig leaning back on ya, makes for some comfortable rides to altitude.
  20. I went from a PD 210 to my Sabre2 170 (go easy on me guys ), I copped a lot of flack considering I had pretty shit landings at the best of times on the PD 210 (and the PD 230). All 11 of my jumps on the Sabre2 have been soft stand ups... I don't know whether it's the size, the zero-p or what, but likewise I'll never look back. The canopy is just 110% easier to land, it planes out really easy and I can pop back up with ease... something I had NEVER experienced on the PD f1-11 canopies.
  21. I got an I-44 and it's pretty tight with a Sabre2 170. Even when the rigger packed it, it was nice and snug.
  22. There's a camera jumper out at our dropzone, his wife did the design for his rig/main/suit/helmet... even his SHOES are colour coordinated. Black/(bright) Orange. IMO it looks completely badass and very professional.
  23. That's the beauty of it. I'm in pretty good shape, but after a day of wrestling my Sabre2 I sleep like an absolute baby. Then I ache like hell the next day but it's that satisfying ache, like when you do a cross country run.
  24. Dooooooo it! I did AFF for my first jump and loved it. If you have enough interest to sign up and post on DZ.com, I say you have the bug already, get started on your training.
  25. What the hell, surely it can't be that easy.
