  1. I've been busy! Seems I'm a secretary for a boy scouts chapter, teach high school math, and recently won a scholarship to research proteomics. I'm also the author of several books on pirates and shipwrecks. That's kinda cool. Rather weird to find pictures of other me's, though. Funny that the search didn't turn up my own web site.
  2. Okay, forgetting the floaters... who would do that to an airplane? That paint job is just wrong and bad and wrong.
  3. What timing! I'm just starting to look for new work, and I've been debating this. I don't mention it on my resume - although I will add it once I have an actual license - but I think I will probably mention it in an interview, if asked. I say probably because if I feel the interviewer is clearly a stick in the mud I won't risk the job. I need work. Although, if they ask about the days I'm available, I won't have much choice but to mention it. I need work to afford to jump, but I can't let work interfere with jumping! Seriously though, any job I get should be a result of my experience, knowledge and character. Skydiving is part of me now (did that ever happen quickly!), as much as writing and hiking and martial arts, and they're all on my resume because they're a big part of my life. Not mentioning skydiving would almost feel like lying, to them and to myself. And yes, I know I'm a bit of an idealist. Been told so many times.
  4. Enjoyed it, but the writing was just too bad! I think the best thing Lucas could do for #3 is to hand his outline over to real writers and let them do their job. But he has a reputation for forcing actors to choke up his cheesy lines. Even Harrison Ford has admitted to objecting to the lines in the originals. My least favourite character this time around is Obi-Wan (sp?) Could he be any less interesting? Predictable? Boring? And that kid who played the young Boba Fett! Urgh! He was baaaad. I loved the politics of the story. Actually, the secondary story lines were much more interesting than the love story. And someone else mentioned to progressing darkness of music; that was a nice subtlety. Even though it wasn't as good as it could be, I've still gotta see it again!
  5. Thanks Rhino, for I was going to pass up on applying to a job that's a bit bigger bite than I've ever chewed, but hey! Why not? I know I can rise to the challenge. I jump out of airplanes, and not much can be more overwhelming/challenging than that!
  6. 2 job leads:2:2ish (first door dive, first really lousy jump) I LOVE door dives! Oh yeah, it's the way to go! No more strut.
  7. Woohoo! Congratulations! That is awesome news, and I'm thrilled it worked out for you. My news was not so happy, so I'm double thrilled for you just 'cause of that. Celebrate til the cows come home!
  8. Congratulations! Pictures! Pictures! I love other people's babies.
  9. Those are great! Hadn't seen most of those before. I've passed them on to my usual e-crowd.
  10. I think I'm in trouble... at first these kind of lists/warnings were funny. I thought, 'no, I won't get into it that deep. Just for fun.' Now I just think, 'yeah, sell it all and skydive!' I've only been at this for a month, and already I'm -Blowing off visits with friends, to go to the dz instead -Arranging my life so that nothing else is happening on a weekend. -When we sell our house, I'm assuming that I'll use some of the cash for my first rig. Okay, maybe a good chunk of the cash. Okay, maybe a lot -Looking for extra work, to pay for jumps. -Annoying my old friends, and can't wait to see my new ones and talk skydiving! And it all seems perfectly normal....
  11. Hot damn am I looking forward to weekends like that!
  12. Wooohoo! Oh yeah! I so know where you're at! (I did my first freefall 9 days ago) Soak it up, it just gets better! I think that instructors should give out a warning before the first freefall; 'WARNING! Do not bother attempting to sleep, eat, work, or do any domestic chores for two(2) days following your first freefall. Extensive testing has proven that there's just no point. By pursuing this activity, you will become obsessed, and attempts to think about anything else will fail.'
  13. Skyrose, that's mighty fine motivation! Sure works, huh? A guy at the DZ offered up a free drink to the student who came closest to the mark - three of us, all at about the same point in our progression - and we all landed almost bang on!
  14. So sad. Here's a (((HUG))) for you. I firmly believe that pets shouldn't age. I think I'll go find my pooch and give her a hug.
  15. Yup, intimidating is the word. It's that whole 'yes I know I can do this but I just figured out how to hang there right and now you want me to not hang there and do something different and still nail my arch, and then you expect me to remember what you told me about spotting before I exited in a new way!' At the same time, it'll be nice to really mean it when I tell a friend 'I jumped out of another airplane this weekend!' instead of 'I let go of another airplane this weekend.' As far as the euphoria goes, my cheeks will be sore until Tuesday from all this perma grin!
  16. 1 sunburn from hanging out in the sun at the dz:2:1 Did my first 10 second delays today! Whoohoo! The first one ended with a little backflip, but the second was stable right until I pulled. This Rocks!
  17. Whoohoo! Did two 10 second delays today, and I'm just so pumped! This sport rocks! Every weekend I think 'It can't get much better than this!' and then the next weekend it does! I've done SCUBA, rock climbing and kayaking, and nothin' can touch the absolute euphoria that this has. And next weekend I get to dive out instead of hanging from the strut. Yahoo! (Actually that has me equally nervous and excited). Why didn't I do this years ago? I Love Skydiving!
  18. Oooh, what a choice. I'd be hard pressed to make that call. Wonder where I can find someone to wreck a non-vital part of my truck?
  19. Why not at the dz? I've had a headcold all week. Sinuses are just about feeling normal today. If I feel 100% tomorrow... whoohoo! I get to do 10 second delays tomorrow!
  20. Skydekker, that's exactly what I thought. You jump it, you pack it. Last weekend I started watching the guys packing the student rigs, snooping and asking questions, because I just assumed that I have to learn it. I think that if I'm gonna keep trusting my life to these oversized kites I should know as much about them as possible, including how they go in (and out). Besides, if I pack my own gear (once I havemy own gear) it means more $$ for jumping!
  21. [begin good vibes...] Oh yeah I hear ya, and many good and positive vibes are on their way to you... now! Believe it or not, I'm expecting a call tomorrow that will decide the fate of the business I've been building, so I know exactly what you mean about lost sleep, negative cash flow, and how many jumps I'll do this summer. [still sending good vibes...] Best of luck.
  22. Hey Pop, 'Canada' is a big place. Where abouts ya coming up to, specifically?
  23. I know exactly what you're saying; I did my first freefall this weekend (regular student progression). It's just so bloody awesome! And when you know that everyone at the dz is rooting for you, clapping and encouraging you... nothing can compare! I get all warm and bubbly inside when I hear of other people going through this. Congratulations!
  24. times I failed my practice pull 4:7:1 for real plus lots of unofficial Oh yeah! I can't imagine a better weekend! The Big One, first ever freefall. Also first time judging my own flare, first time off radio, first really windy canopy flight - had me going backwards, that was unnerving - first time owing beer... shant go on but I know I could find more firsts. Made such a tangle of my lines on landing that it took three packers 20minutes to figure it out. Highest jump yet. Finally feel comfortable hanging from the strut. I don't think life can get much better than hanging out at the DZ with such an awesome group of people and jumping and jumping and jumping...
