Joe, I could have SWORN you were at Skydive Daytona when Norm showed it, uncut, in the bar. He explained that you have to view it as a whuffo and as a whuffo he asked would it make you want to learn to skydive??? Most agreed that indeed, in looks appetizing to whuffos and may boost the popularity of the sport a bit just like the movie, Point Break did, even though as we all know how fake that was too. I agree, the drug smuggling portrayed skydivers in a negative light, but then again, Point Break did the same to surfers, Drop Zone did the same for skydiving as well (even though I LOVE that movie), the movie The Net did the same thing to hackers, ext....there are LOTS of movies that take a certain group of people, characterize them and portray them in a negative light. It's just how the movie industry works I guess. If Cutaway were about skydivers who simply worked *really* hard at their jobs in order to skydive, there wouldn't have been much of a plot, even a cheesy one. Even though Cutaway didn't really do much for me, I think it's very cool what Norm did for it

Frank! That all sounds very cool! I'm there in a year!
-
Lazerq, no, actually, I haven't heard of this. Could you send me more info??? otskydiv@bellsouth.net MUCH LOVE AND BLUE SKIES! Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/

There's room for both I think
-
Frank, I hope you mean that b/c here I come! In all seriousness I'd LOVE to. It'd be a great excuse to meet a fellow DZ.comer, see BC, and get some awesome information! I'll be needing to start in about a year from now so keep in touch! Much love and blue skies! Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/

This is exactly what I've been doing but so far, no used ones that match my car have turned up. I have quite a few people looking for me though. I'm screwed so far, a rebuilt one would cost $1200 which I don't and won't soon have. MUCH LOVE AND BLUE SKIES! Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/

I hear you....so far my gears 3 and 4 NEVER work but my reverse, for the most part does except for every once in a while but I've never had to push it out, thankfully, in neutral, I seemed to always be on just enough incline for it to just kinda roll out
-
HA HA HA HA....Lisa, I think you got me
-
Hey cyberskydive, Geo's (made by Chevrolet) are GM cars.....so how about that rebuild??? He he he....I WISH!
-
Hey guys....we used to joke at my old home DZ about our cars b/c most were pretty battered but mine took the ribbon. Just wanted to hear your funny stories about yours.....here's mine: I have a '95 Geo Metro. My transmission is shot and since I don't have the $1200 to have it rebuilt, for the last 4 months I've been driving on gears 1, 2 and 5 since 3 and 4 don't work and I'm just praying she holds out for me until I can find a transmission in a junkyard (so far, have been unsuccessful.) My CV axle broke a month ago and the whole front of my car fell down but luckily some friends found an almost new one that fit in a junkyard and installed it for me so that is taken car of. Someone knocked my rear view mirrors off but they're still hangin on by a thread. My drivers side windshield wiper doesn't work too great and my window rolls up all but a crack so I get drenched driving in a thunderstorm. I have countless dents and scratches on it but my motto is "where there's a scratch, there's a sticker" so consequently my car is covered in skydiving stickers (used to be all surf/wakeboarding stickers until I started skydiving.) BUT I CAN'T COMPLAIN b/c she still takes me from point A to point B and has always kept me safe, *never* (knock on wood) broken down on me on the side of the road and she takes the cheapest gas. Of course, that's what makes my car a *she* b/c only a girl could take that kind of licking and keep on ticking

Joe! Why didn't you tell me you were planning on hitting SkyVenture. That's the company I worked for so I could fly for free but had to quit after a couple months b/c the hours didn't work out with school. I couldn't have gotton you any deals, I'm sure but I could have let Thomas know and he would have been happy to give you the training you've been after while you were there. He is part of "Deland Tunnel Rage" that won intermediate nationals in last summers competition. I was so stoked to hear that b/c when I met them they were always practicing in the tunnel (and if you haven't seen it, it's a SIGHT b/c the tunnel doesn't look big enough to hold 4 people but all their moves were so tightly together and concise...it is really unreal!) He he he....I'm glad you're striving to be an instructor b/c I think you'll make a GREAT one b/c you have an awesome personality that will make students feel right at home. I, actually, at one point, wanted to be a tandem master (since there aren't many girls doing that) until Lisa explained on another thread just how much it can mess with your flying skills and not allow you much time to fun jump. Then it didn't sound so great

News room??? What do you do, Frank? Yes, news class, that's actually why I transfered b/c I was *supposed* to do my internship at Wakeboarding magazine here but decided to do my internship for Skydiving mag instead since they are right here in Deland. I was actually going to work there part-time a few months ago but Mike needed more editorial experience than I had since I haven't taken but 1 course on news editing yet. But we'll see, right now I'm more interested in Sociology. My major is news/media but I'm going to double-major, I think, and major in Sociology as well b/c I absolutely LOVE it. My dream is to travel to all different places and not go to the touristy parts but actually live for a while, just as the people in those countries live and help out where I can. After high school I wanted to join the Peace Corps but they require that you be in college so that still may happen for me although I"m getting REALLY burnt out on school. Anyways...now that you know my life story....HA HA HA....we seem to have quite a bit in common. I'm interested to know what it is you do???

Wow, Skreamer, you are truly generous. However skydivers are all pretty nice and most will be happy to do RW jumps with you w/out you having to pay for their jumps as well as most will also teach you to pack (but not pack for you) for free as well. I'm not discouraging you b/c I'm sure many will LOVE to take you up on your offer but I know that if I had a D-liscense, like you'd prefer, I'd be happy to jump with you and pay my own way. Unfortunately I haven't applied for any of my liscenes yet. I'll get around to applying soon and get my B (since you can't get your C until you do night jumps) b/c I'd like to do night jumps but probably won't apply for C and just wait until D so I don't have to pay for every liscense. This way, you can just take 2 tests at once for the price of 1. But anyways, back to your original proposition, a round of beer at the end of the day will almost always suffice to any skydiver who helps you out
-
I put 7-19 b/c you asked what was *possible* and I've seen many do this many in a day but for me, my tops is 5 usually. much love and blue skies! Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/

I was just going to say this

Why not purchase SKYDIVE DAYTONA BEACH??? It's in a perfect location (2 miles from the beach so lot's of beach jumps

That is the most narely SHIT I have ever seen. I have heard of some weird fetishes before *butt* that is the sickest I've ever seen. SICK! Carrie
-
Our pilot at our DZ (I'm not sure how it is at other DZs but at our DZ everybody was best buds w/ our pilot and love him since he's a skydiver, he always gave us extra alti
-
Tee...that sounds awesome! Now I want to go there b/c my favorite phrase since I was a lil hippie chick all through middle-school has been "Spread the Love." That's pretty close
-
THEN COUNT ME IN!!! I've never dived at night either (since that also requires advance liscense) but I did take a course for the advanced liscesne, just never did the in-water training part b/c I took it at UF when I went there and after about the first 3 weeks of school, that semester, I became VERY sick and had to withdraw. I had too much catching up to do to be able to re-enroll in a *fun* class. I'm jealous
-
Wow! Joe, that sounds awesome! Have you been *hooking* to make that much $$$??? (enough to pay Billy and jump 50 times AND you just got new gear????) He he he....I'm just teasing. I'm so stoked for you! It sounds like you're being very smart about having not jumped in 6 months and taking the extra time and $$$ to go through those steps again. I'm very happy to hear that even though I know it will be a breeze for you and actually will probably teach you a lot since Billy is so knowledgeable and b/c he is old school, he really goes into much greater depth than some of the others. For every AFF jump I did, we'd sit for 2+ hours before-hand and sort of meditate and get focused (since I waited almost a month inbetween each set of levels I did) on what I wanted to do and really picture everything from beginning to end. He was awesome and I owe him a lot for how quick and easy it was to learn with him. I'm not sure right now, about any B-day jumps but Kelly e-mailed me that she was going to call me tonight so I'll try to remember to ask her. Maybe we'll have a *special* belated B-day jump once you're back in the air.

AHHHHHH, right on. I noticed no-one replied to my first response about the canopy windtunnel....does anyone else have additional info on this? I'm pretty sure it's Icarus that has it to test their new canopies, ext. but I'd be interested to know for sure
-
Mike, WOW, you live so close. You'll definitely have to start jumping in Deland now more often b/c I'd love to meet you! Yes, the vibe at Skydive Daytona was an awesome one. It's hard to explain to people just how friendly it was there and how much everyone really loves each other and does things for each other there all the time. Between all of us we had someone to paint our houses, fix our cars, fix our roofs, work on construction, ext, ext. ext....it was like our own community, everyone doing what they knew how to for everyone else. But most everyone will be in Deland from now on so it will kinda be a DZ within a DZ there and it'd be very cool to see you. You've only lived here 2 months and have already been to more DZs than me...ha ha ha. But I kinda like to stick to the same one every weekend for now and travel to a new one every once a while. I'm set in my ways I guess. I get really comfortable somewhere or with something (doesn't even have to be skydiving) and I stick to it even though I'm always up to trying something new. I think once I"m jumping regularly again, every weekend that after a couple months, by this summer I will be doing some traveling to different DZs as well. Thusfar, I've only been to Sebastian, Deland, and SDB. Ironically, even though I've never been there, I have quite a few friends at Z-hills and they tell me it's wonderful there so maybe when you make your trip there, I'll go with. Let me know! Much love and blue skies! Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/
