  1. 100% agree with what you say, but to add that the public schools are some of the worst promoters of this. No matter what little Johnny does, he'll get an award so we don't hurt his self esteem. Also to say that a lot of kids are being raised by parents with their heads on straight. Not everyone has bought into the self-esteem train. I've been told our kids are pretty cool. Valinda is the one that knows the most about parenting. You two hit the nail on the head! Could not have said it better my self
  2. :21: Thank you Couchfreaks for a great boogie & thanks to Larry Hill and his pilots for 3 Otters and the Van
  3. Another cost driver is the government. I don't believe that the recreational diver wears gear that has federal testing and regulation like skydiving. Aside from DOT testing of the tanks, I've never heard of anything like a 'Dive Rigger' with an agency ticket. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. 6. I like the full altitude H&P at sunset. Low ones are good but nothing beats a little XC on the last load. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. That's fucked up. Watermelons do not grow on trees! ~Skymama
  7. That's what our C182 has along with a no-protruding latch handle. The regular door handle is removed and replaced with a T-handle that is inset into a recess. There is nothing to snag with the door is up and latched agains the wing and a container is up against it. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. 8. It was the line length. Went up and went thru the motions and then turned around and SOB if there wasn't any slack back there. Let out 2.5 in to start. Dont' laugh there Josh, I may well jump your's someday but toggle monkey mode is for accuracy only. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. 9. Canopy course - did you really understand what was presented and how the wing flys in different modes? If so, I would go up high with someone else and fly close proximity, think no contact RW, and use them as a reference flying next to you. Get on the same level as the other canopy and go to 1/4 brake, 1/2 brake, 3/4 brake while watching them. You should then get an idea of what your wing is doing. You want to get an idea of where the "sweet spot is", the amount of control you input to plane the canopy out and convert vertical descent into horizontal flight. Then wash, rise, repeat. Dialing in the sweet spot is the first thing I'd figure out. From there, I work out the slow flight modes. Add more input and see how the wing flys. Do it all up high and then translate it to your landing sequence. Like Billvon said, it's not really a do A then do B thing. You want to transition to horizonal flight at some acceptable height above the surface and then keep the canopy flying by adding inputs while it bleeds off speed and touches you down. The sweet spot is just a baseline and where it is depends on conditions, lower in the stroke on no-wind days and higher on windy days. I think if you work this out and get video and dissect you landings, they will improve as well as your confidence. My 2cents worth ...standard Dizzy disclaimers apply. 10. I downsized to the pilot and jump it as my primary. I was learning on my Sabre and was up to carving turns and then I went to the Pilot and had to start from scratch. I'm not switching between the two trying to learn HP landings. The Sabre is in a rig I just use for RW jumps. I just ment that I "could" go back to it for swoop learning if the Pilot won't work as well. I may have put enough on the the Pilot to need to adjust the control lines. I'll go up and pull at 5 and do the drill to check it and adjust them. ...And yea, I did do it intentionally high because I don't feel like breaking myself. Conservative is better and I generally know whose CC forum advice is good and whose ain't. Most of the stuff that doesn't need salt comes from dudes whose name begins with either a D or an I.
  11. :6:0 The only remarkable thing was when trying at sit-HD transition via the cartwheel, I manged to somehow sit-fly inverted. I thought that's what I was doing and linbker83 confirmed it. Weird. 12. Thanks Dave. I'll double check the lengths this week and maybe just go back to learning this on my Sabre 170 since I know the trim and control lines are set up right on it. 13. So this weekend I decided to carve a 90deg turn to final on my Pilot 150 after doing alot of double front stuff since I got this canopy. I held out to be last down and started the turn to final at 400' so that when I came out of the carve, I would still be high and use double fronts. I held the fronts but the wing started "bucking". It was like on my Sabre before I let out some brake lines. I know my brakes are not deflecting the tail, so I let up the fronts and gave up on it and it recovered at about 35' and I just landed normally. Tried it on a subsequent jump and the same thing. I remember Curt saying in the canopy course that when you induce speed, you only will get so much per design; canopy terminal veocity. Did my carve cause me to reach canopy terminal and the bucking come from the lift being generated opposed to me trying to keep it diving? I'm only loading it at 1.3 and winds were about 3-5 kts, but have not experienced this when I just turn final using a toggle turn and then go to double fronts. Any ideas? 17. The time away is perfect to get a copy of Brian Germain's The parachute and its pilot. Really read and understand the material and you will probably understand what happened to cause your injury. If you have questions, ask in the CP forum or your instructors. You will come back with a wealth of understanding that someone with your numbers does not have and a better canopy pilot. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude.
