Are they our media? Or are they a water company
marks2065 replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
There is no law that indicates how reporters have to report a story. There is and will always be an inherrent bias in people reporting on a story. The bigger problem is that Americans tend to be more interested in entertainment than news. Just look at the programming of all the news networks. That is true, alot of americans are easily infuenced by the tabloids and never read into the 10 second sound bites that portray the politicians as something they are not. I am usually against regulations, but one regulation that I would like to see is that all political reporting and advertising needs to be done without bias and without cutting. that would eliminate sound bites that are meant to sway the public and reporting that is used to promote a poitical side. To bad that a regulation like that could bad also. Unfortunately we will need to hope that the american people will look beyond the political reporting and advertising and see the truth. -

Except, of course, in some cases the placement of a comma is the actual difference between life and death. Spelling and grammar do count for something and especially when it comes to reportage about the legal system. That said, I don't think that's really what we're talking about here. What we're talking about here is misspeaking a line. Virtually everybody does it. The difference is, Rush wants to make a big deal out of this misspoken line, but is more than willing to overlook some more gross intentional statements made by the 43rd Administration that wound up getting thousands of innocent people killed. Rush wants us to overlook that and look at this instead. Gee Rush, I guess you're "winning." No, I think rush wants all the correct information about and equall treatment of all politicians so that the people will make a good choice when voting comes around so we could maybe elect someone better than Obama and Bush. The lack of "tough" questions to some and the bashing of others to sway the public towards one poltical side is helping to cause the problems we have now. The media needs to ask all politicians the same questions and either bash or not bash all politicians eaqually. -
CA already has a concealed carry permit on it's books. But it's not a "shall issue" permit. And from what I've read you have to know a judge or be famous (or both) in order to get one. That sounds easy enough. sounds easy? most people only know a judge when they have done something wrong, not a good time to try and get a permit.

If the facts are correct the problem is easily fixed. Reporters need to give the truth and cover both side the same way. The media shouldn't give either side a brake. We need to be more interested in what is being said and done, not how it is spelled. -
But your standpoint is that the Republican members of Congress will allow this bill to pass, because they want to protect their own political future? You don't think they would do what would be best for the country? Has DC "done what is best for the country" lately? I don't think so. I don't trust either side, but I still hope the rep's will block ALL extra spending until the debt is coming down. The reduction on SS to help pay for this bill is the stupidest thing they could do, Drilling a bigger hole in the boat doesn't stop it from sinking.
-
So, the American people would be stupid or insane for not recognizing this? Obama did say that congress should pass this bill at least 16 times, meaning it was a weak bill and he needed to push it to much to pass it.

Ramming the vaccine down throats? Have you forgotten where that was *very* thoroughly debunked in your *other* thread, already? Perhaps my sarcasm was not strong enough. The perception on the right was that he was ramming it down their throats. If a Democratic Governor today was to do the same thing as Perry, he would be rode out of town on a rail by the tea party. When the majority of Tea baggers are confronted with an ideological contradiction with one of their own, they would rather bury their heads in the sand. The pole taken said that most think Perry should be at the debate so his handlers probably considered that.

Maybe because a good leader delegates authority and responsibility not mircomanage. Also, maybe he knows that money does not change natural disasters. IMO. Money changes the effectiveness of responses to natural disasters. Maybe if Perry had shown more leadership instead of playing absentee governor the responses would have been more effective. Not spending our future into bankrupcy would be more effective. Maybe if Obama had shown more leadership instead of vacationing and playing golf he would be more effective. why are you always so one sided? if you are going to be critical of the stupid shit at least be fair. You know as well as most that Perry being in Texas does not change the fire situation just like the economy wont get better because Obama is in washington. Well, maybe it won't get worse when he is on vacation because he isn't doing anything stupid while playing golf.
-
The issue is that if the rep's stop the bill Obama and the dem's will call them job killers, attackers of the middle class, and everything else they can think of evn though it would not be true.
-
It will be paid for, by stealing from our future again. The definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over expecting different results. This president is prooving he is either stupid mor insane.

My OPINION would seem to be shared by the government of the state of New Jersey, and it is a FACT that some smokers live to old age. 'The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's how the smart money bets.' nothing personal but we know how wrong the government ussually is.

AND George Bush Just a waste of breath cuz EVERYONE knows that already And the stoooopid fuckers here will keep themselves in denial for the rest of their lives. history shows that man did not create global warming Like I said above we created global warming? how are we responsible for the glacier melt over the midwest? how are we responsible for over 95 percent of the ice melt? You know all that ice that melted before 1800? how can we cause something that has been going on since before man? Time for the left to wake up and stop being stupid. maybe that is your trickle. How are you going to reconcile your eventual realization that it really is happening because of people who have a lot to gain financially and have the GOAT FUCK STUPID fooled.. ALL of the time??? you resemble your own words very well. history shows the truth and as well educated as you say you are............ never mind that would be stupid of me to think you are educated. So sayeth one of our usual suspects in SC from the fringe right with an inability to structure sentences and paragraphs into some semblance of acceptable standard of American English. yes we know, propper grammer is always more important than the actual subject in the world of the left. Go back to grading papers and leave the real important decissions to those that can handle them.

There was a drastic loss from Nov. 07 to Jan. 09, followed by a steep turn around with a fast drop and quick pick up around Aug. 2010 and leveling out, somewhat. All of that was under Dem control. Looking at the two charts (BLS chart expanded to 1945), it appears that the Rep have close to the same amount of success and failure. So, it make one wonder who really has control. Is it the President, congress, or business itself? When I compare the spikes to years at war, it seems that war itself is responsible quick gains and loss. So what is responsible for the spikes in between wars? I think it really depends on what is happening around the world more than it does on who controls congress and the White House. It's just easier for people to blame one side or the other, than to look at the whole picture. I was just pointing out that over the last decade or so that congress has caused the fluctuations by what they do. Confidence is stronger than a law or regulation and recently the congress nor president has instilled any confidence. After 911, and the 2 recesions in 1980 & 1992 the presidents instilled confidence in the people and businesses and that got us going. All we have now is an over used credit card and bickering in washington. The stimulous could have been 5 trillion and it would not have helped because they were more determined to move this country to the left than to fix the problems we have.

I fixed the link. Look at the chart. It looks toi me like everything was really good until the dem's took control of congress. Looking at the chart at this link http://uspolitics.about.com/od/usgovernment/l/bl_party_division_2.htm Dems held both, the Senate and the House, 22 out of 33 sessions since 1945. I think that it goes without saying that the Dems the brunt of the criticism. Expanding the years on the Labor chart, it appears that most job lost occurs after war activity. I'm not so sure that either a republican or democrat led Senate or House can control the downward spikes any more than they can create upward spikes.. What I was looking at was the fact that the jobs loss was actually while the dem's had control of congress (along with most of the debt under bush). it seems that when the dem's control congress business gets scared and tightens the belt. I wonder why?

Research question I can't find a good answer to
marks2065 replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Except my story wouldn't be concerned with that. What I'm concerned about is John Q. Everyman doing the calculus of his death. Whether or not it's actually worth it to continue and what would happen if one other variable was introduced, such as somebody offering to pay him a lump sum to end it rather than continuing to be a burden on society as well as opening up a job for another unemployed person (which, of course, was the original intention of Social Security). I don't quite have the story cracked yet. Still thinking about it. I don't think you ever get out what was put in. If all the money went into an account in your name for you only it would be plenty for you to retire on, since SS is not plenty for you to retire on the answer would be no you don't break even. If you are talking about just getting the exact dollars out you put in I would say yes but the number of years that would take would be dependant on your income and and what SS paid out to you. -

Read this article today: New, convincing evidence indicates global warming is caused by cosmic rays and the sun — not humans http://opinion.financialpost.com/2011/08/26/lawrence-solomon-science-now-settled/ Here's the Nature article: http://www.nature.com/news/2011/110824/full/news.2011.504.html While the physics shows CO2 forcing is valid in direction, it's not the dominant driving force in the weather system. Coupled with the CERES data (which shows the Earth is losing plenty of heat, much more than predicted by AGW models), it'll be interesting to see what the AGW priests have to say now. In the interest of full disclosure, I am not advocating wanton pollution of the Earth. I think we need to not polute also, but the changes need to take place at a rate that doesn't bankrupt the nation. we also need to get the planet up to speed with us also. It does no good to regulate this country to death, causing companies to go overseas and then import those products from other countries that have no epa regulations. It is worse for us and the enviroment doing it the way we are doing it. unfortunately the left doesn't seem to understand this.

Republican Pussies Charging for Town Hall Meetings
marks2065 replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
at least they are available unlike the dems were during the health care. Also if I was the owner of the establishment I would charge a fee also. Why is it that many Dem's think that everything is free to them? you want to sit at a table and eat, you can pay like the rest of us. -
Republican Pussies Charging for Town Hall Meetings
marks2065 replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Quayle was elected and Ryan re-elected in the 2010 Congressional elections, so that's out. Next smear attempt? You miss the point once more, I said someone who is running (Bachmann and Perry) can have private campaign events, this is nothing new. Elected members of Congress have always had meetings with their constituents, now these 2 pussies are charging (Even though they could expense the cost) to have ANY face time with their Congressman. I thought the tea party was in favor of a more open Government with the people having more direct access. I thought all of you tea baggers carried a copy of the constitution in your pocket. http://topics.law.cornell.edu/wex/First_amendment so being responsible and not adding to the governments cost is breaking the constitution? charging for a meal is illegal? you need better than that. -
As I see it BOTH parties voted on Nafta, it was started by Bush 1, signed by Clinton, and about a 55/45 vote in congress( rep's the majority). both parties had their hand in it. The epa regulations were to be followed by all involved but like everything else the feds forgot to enforce that. What I don't understand is why the left (the party of everything green) would not stand up and enforce the EPA clause in the treaty? or why nobody enforces that? The WTO doesn't have many epa regulations nor do they enforce them, why would the left or right here alow that when it concerns imports here to the US? The left is all about green but they align themselves with world groups that don't do "green" why? Just because someone (or some other nation) is an asshole doesn't mean we all have to be assholes. All the regulations you don't like (OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA, SEC, etc.) came about because of some abuse by greedy capitalists. There is absolutely no reason to believe that in the absence of regulations, 21st Century capitalists would be any different from 19th Century abusers like Collis Huntington, Charlie Crocker, Ralston's Ring, the food industry documented by Upton Sinclair, or 20th Century abusers like Hooker Chemical and the nice folks responsible for the attached photo. I agree with you that some of the regulations are very good for us, but if you are going to put this financial burden on companies you need to protect them from those that do not have these financial burdens. This is what is missing. The government can creat all the epa regulations they want as long as no products made without following these regulations are allowed into the US. The feds are only doing half the job and our unemployment rate and trade deficit are showing how poorly the feds are doing there jobs.

This is the equivalent of the rapist saying, "Go along with it or I'll turn this rape into a murder." no it is not the same. The Jobs were sent overseas for one reason and one resaon alone.. PROFIT at any cost.. the more profit the better. The people you worship can couch it in any terms they wish but the bottom line id greed over patriotism... whats good for Americans... or good for the country. If you keep handing EVERYTHING to these anti-American asswhipes you may as well burn all the American flags.. and start flying the company colors of your favorite corporation. Arent you guys the ones who are so against globilization and the UN??? I thought the right wing was supposed to be about patriotism, mom and apple pie... OOOPS another phalacy. The fact is that as long as doing business in the US means having to deal with taxes, unions, and the EPA, jobs will continue to go overseas, period. When the congress and the president relize that America and it's economy are more important to us and the world than making feel good policies with other countries, maybe then we will start to protect our businesses here with tarrifs on imports not made with our regulations or a slowing of regulations here to promote companies staying here. Wrong.. they will only do that as long as those who want to give them everything with nothing in return.... allow them to do that by voting for morons who do not have a firm grasp on reality or what it means to be an American. lets look at that, the free trade agreements to allow other countries to trade their cheap products here, are the main cause of this. Why are we letting truck drivers from mexico make deliveries here in the US? why are we paying for those trucks to be emission compliant? why are we letting products into the US that were made with no epa or labor regulations? the Obama administration could stop that right now but they have not, why? This is just a small sample of the reason we have a 9% unemployment rate and a budget deficit.
