Funny you say that because I just emailed them and got a response from Charlevoix, MI, telling me about how exciting my first tandem jump will be?!! strange considering I was asking about experienced skydiving. Is this all bs?

I know the instructors I've had at Perris Valley are cool like that, I think I've had all of them at one time or another, each one was excellent in every way.

Oh man what fantastic news, right near my house. I'm definitely going there, yipee! and ocean views to boot!

OMFG... I'm speechless - that would break my heart.

You clearly have the wrong idea about canopies. A 'powerful flare' does not mean it will stop on a dime regardless of what's happening. Any canopy needs to be flown in a proper manner, and flared with the pilot hanging in the nuetral position under the wing. Furthermore, a Crossfire2 189 would be a poor choice for anyone under 240lbs. There is no benefit, and several problems with jumping a lightly loaded high performance canopy. The Crossfire is a HP canopy, and until you have the skill ans experience to jump one at 1.5 or more, you should not be on that wing. Proper canopy selection is not limited a reasonable wingloading, the selection of the type of wing is just as important. Case in point would be the video that started this thread. That jumper was at a reasonable wing loading for his jump numbers, but clearly the canopy he chose was too much for him to handle with his skill level. You're absolutely right, I know nothing of canopies whatsoever and your information is gratefully received. The only thing I can fault my canopy for is the flare - hence my previous post - if the flare was better I don't think I would ever want to downsize. I've had people tell me my 230 is a wise choice and good for my experience level, and I've had others take the piss for having "such a big canopy". Right now, for me, with the 230 I have enough on my plate. When, and only when, do I feel I've mastered this canopy, will I think about a size down. I have absolutely no rush in me whatsoever.

Does anybody know the best paint to use to paint helmets? I have a nvertigo x, carbon fibre, I think. I know from my biker days that it's not recommended for certain types of motorcycle helmets.

Ahhh, I see. I have zero experience of anything below a 230 canopy, although I like to think that one day I might have a 189 Crossfire 2?! Powerful flare being the most attractive quality. And to all those concerned, don't worry, my 230 still feels like a Stiletto 60 - to me. No plans on downsizing anytime soon.

I fall fast too, went for the no booties and baggy/ freefly option. Everthing I got second hand from here, all great quality/good stuff. One day, of course, it would be nice to get new gear, but there are some fantastic buys if you keep your eye out.

How come it didn't flare? I thought those canopies were supposed to have a really strong flare? Or are you supposed to do a gradual flare, rather than a normal (all in one) flare?

Yeah, I was thinking this too. Rafflers- who would get to decide what's moral and what isn't? At risk of getting sent to SC, the Taliban did a pretty good job of enforcing their moral codes in Afghanistan. The Puritans were pretty strict too. In more recent times around here, how about Nancy Reagan, Tipper Gore or Pat Buchannan?? The Declaration of Independence asserts the rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. I pursue my happiness by jumping and I don't want some safety fanatic to stop me because there is risk involved. I have no desire to be abuse by a gorgeous woman, but hey, to each his (or her) own. And I want to know how much she charges too. I think it's kinda unfair to compare Rafflers to the Taliban because he doesn't believe in s 'n m porn. I remain indifferent to whatever Baensaurna (or whatever it is) does - what she does in private is up to her. It would be nice however, if she could talk about something other than herself for once. Probably a really nice person, and I don't want to come across as a misery guts, but definitely seems a little attention seeking to say the least.

I'm Not A Fan Of Cats But This Is Sick

I'm not even going to look. Needless animal cruelty is something I really feel could drive me too far. Actually I had a quick peek but turned it off. Gonna look at other threads. -
At the very least, name and shame.

I find it absolutely incredible that you of all people bring this subject up. I tried to buy a rig from you myself, that you advertised on this website. I offered you your full asking price on a complete rig and you then told me that the price had gone up by a further $200. To cut a long story short - you were very rude, and only after I threatened to publicly display our emails did you then start to be diplomatic. I don't know you and you may very well be a genuine/nice person. I can only judge you by the interactions that I have had with you. Since our dealings I have purchased from a few people on this website who were/are more than a pleasure to do business with. I apologise if this post seems wrong to you but, like I say, I can only judge you from the dealings I have had from you.

I used to work in a friends tattoo shop and it was mostly homosexuals that used to come in for that. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I'm just saying. Hello sailor...

Freefly scene at Skydive Taft?
taylor.freefall replied to surfbum5412's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
www.skydivesanjoaquin.net I think this is what you mean, it's very close to Taft. -
If a stiletto isn't a good choice for swooping then what is it for then? Just zippy piloting? Disclaimer - not that I have any intention of swooping or stilettoing - just curious.

Stall/flaring help.
taylor.freefall replied to taylor.freefall's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Oh yes, I pulled @ 5k, and normally pull @ 4.5k, my decision alt is 2.5k. I had a Sabre 2, 230, WL around 1.04:1. I pulled the toggles down between my legs to near where my zipper is and held it there for around 10/15 seconds or so. Looking up the canopy looked like it was close to what I think is stall point and definitely looks like what I think it should do in deep brakes (everything normal looking). I hope I'm not creating a problem that isn't there... I never really thought about it until I came home and sat down. Of course if I can improve anything that can help... -
Stall/flaring help.
taylor.freefall replied to taylor.freefall's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was exploring my canopy after a few months lay off and pulled my toggles down as much as I could but didn't get near what I thought would be stall point. The ride was very mushy and slow. I'm wondering if the toggles need adjusting, the flare on landing seems normal, or what I've experienced with other canopies, maybe a tad less, but not greatly. Am I over analyzing things??
