  1. Yeah . . . the entire argument of "guns don't kill people" is specious. So when talking about violence, you think using the argument that "guns kill" and blaming the gun is acceptable. By that logic, spoons make people fat, and plungers and broomsticks rape people. Knives kill. Cars kill. Bathtubs and swimming pools kill. Baseball bats kill. Pens kill. OK, so in your mind "guns kill." So what? Well, that would make sense since he seems to think a killer could grab a knife from the kitchen and shoot two victims with it. 2. Yeah . . . the entire argument of "guns don't kill people" is specious. A gun has never gotten pissed off over a drug deal gone bad then shot someone. It takes a human to squeeze the trigger. I don't think he understands why. Oh I absolutely understand why some people think it's a good argument, it's just that I don't. If you make the argument that "guns don't kill people" then you're forced to take that argument to the conclusion of "atomic weapons don't kill people." My guess is, you can't really think for a minute that every country on earth should be allowed to have atomic weapons . . . can you? And here's the thing, you can't even use the argument that they should only be used by "sane" countries either, because of the thousands of nuclear weapons ever made, the only two that have ever been used against people, well . . . you get the drift. Atomic weapns don't kill by themselves either. They also need human intervention otherwise they just sit there like a bump on a log. Take away a weapon and the criminal will just find, or make, another. Take away the user and weapons will just sit there, like a bump on a log. 5. Dan will be missed very much in the racing world. I had the chance to chat with him for about 30 seconds at Indy this spring and he was, as always, smiling and happy. He had an infectious smile that spread to all around him. Driving a race car is much different than skydiving. Yes, the risk of injury/death is present but the similarity ends there. Skydiving requires attention to detail and moderate to intense concentration for a few minutes. Racing requires it for hours. Losing a friend skydiving hurts, but one can still manage those few minutes of concentration without too much trouble. Losing a friend racing also hurts, but it is very difficult to keep the level of concentration needed for the hundrds of miles and several hours an event takes to run. In skydiving a mistake usually only harms the participant. It may harm those nearby if it happens in a group. In racing, a mistake has a VERY high chance of affecting other drivers nearby, spectators, pti crew, officials, etc. Todays incident was not like the Moore or Zanardi incidents. Today 15 cars were involved, 13 eliminated, 4 drivers taken to the hospital, one died and two are being held overnight for observation. To ask the remaining drivers to set aside what happened and continue racing would be to invite disaster. As a former driver myself, one who watched friends die on the track literally in front of me, the process of mentally preparing for a race begins the night before. Each driver has their own way of preparing, but that process is very important. This incident completely disrupted that. Knowing exactly what the drivers in todays race were feeling and going through, I would have been shocked had they continued the race. Yes, Dan probably would have wanted them to. Scratch that...there is no probably. He would have insisted they continue. But that could not happen today. The drivers were dealing with far to much shock and grief to safely race at 220-225 mph. 6. I'm curious what your opinion of the Fast and Furious operation is then. I'm sure I've made myself clear on that. In fact I think I posted the first thread on the topic here on dz.com, though it was still called Gunwalker/Gunrunner at the time. I find it deplorable that federal law enforcement was ordered to allow smugglers to purchase rifles and transport them to cartels in Mexico. I'm not a fan of perjury, either. What does smuggling, preventing investigation, perjury, and arming organized crime have to do with the silly idea that "guns kill"? Either guns can or can't kill a person. If you don't think guns can kill a person, then you should have no issue whatsoever with what was done. Personally, I think that's the wrong way to go, but it's your argument. Just when I thought the arguments here in SC had set a new record for stupidity, you go and blow that idea right out of the water. Of course guns can't kill. But they are a tool that can be used to kill. So are knives, swords, hammers, screwdrivers, automobiles, airplanes, etc. Golf clubs can't hit a golf ball, but they can be used to do so. 7. I'm curious what your opinion of the Fast and Furious operation is then. I own several dozen assorted rifles, pistols, and shotguns. To the best of my knowledge they have not killed a human yet. I say "to the best of my knowledge" because they just may be sneaking out at night without me noticing. Of course, they would have to open the safe from the inside but I'm certain that if they can load, aim, and fire themselves then getting out of a safe would be no problem. I used to attend the Grand American trapshoot every year. Some days there would be 3000+ shotguns being handled. Again, to the best of my knowledge not a single one ever loaded, aimed, and fired itself at a target. They all needed help, even though most of the guns there don't have a safety. 8. I actually had a bet with myself that your next move would be to "misunderstand" that part of it. Yay, I win an icecream
  9. Even if that held up against the way you've been conflating 'censorship' with 'bad' (oh I'm sorry, 'not right') throughout the thread it still doesn't apply to your first post, when you were evidently using censorship to mean bad censorship. Yes, that is your lie. Now, if you could point out any single part of my explanation of why it is a lie that you disagree with... So you think that just because I was chastising Disney for their censorship it automatically meant I thought all censorship was bad? So you blame me for your assumption which caused your confusion? Here's something they don't teach in textbooks: Assumption is the mother of all fuckups. So post 44 isn't yours? Strange. It has your name on it as author. Judging from your posts in other threads it is obvious your are highly educated. It is also very obvious you lack real-world experience to know how to apply that knowledge. I forgive you for your misundrstanding and false accusations of lying. Hopefully you have learned something. 10. Wow, that could almost be a good point, except for the fact that in the post I refer you to, i point out the contradictory statement. But since you need to be bottlefed, here you go: "My only intent was to show that regardless of whether we agree with the change, Disney's action was still censorship.... I joined the discussion because I nbelieve this is a case of censorship that is BAD and a poster was saying it was ok. " So I take it you are unable to find fault with any part of my earlier explanation of exactly why you were lying when you said I claimed my post was yours? And instead of 'fessing up your are going to continue to pretend that explanation does not even exist? Grow up indeed WOW! And you accuse me of "parsing and dissecting"??? Holy shit! My reason for joining the discussion was formed before I made my first post. You are capable of understanding that concept, right? Good. My intent to show how Disney's actions were censorship was formed after you and others made the ridiculous claim it wasn't censorship. Got it? Okey dokey! You claimed post 44 was mine. It was not. It was yours. HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit.
  11. Yeah, the post where I already explained exactly where you contradicted yourself. Dude. Seriously. Now you're just trolling. I just explained to you in the clearest possible language where and why you were lying. If you would like to take exception to any particular part of that explanation then please do - but to pretend it doesn't even exist is just another lie. You have referred to posts but failed to mention what statements I made contradicted each other. You are the one who is lying. Grow up. 12. Oh, so you saw post #73 and just ignored it? Evidently you need reminding of post #64, the one where I plainly explained to you that when you asked the question "Really? Where?" in response to a post that made reference to one of your posts and one of my posts, you did not specify that you were only referring to your post. Hence why I supplied you with the details of one of your posts and, wait for it, this is really going to surprise you, one of my posts. You're not a moron, it's not rocket science, therefore you're lying. Ok, now I understand. You lose an argument so you... 1) Accuse another of contadicting themselves but provide no proof other than your own posts and 2) Accuse another of lying but show no proof. Now, would you care to show where I contradicted myself and where I was lying? Time to put up or shutup. HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit.
  13. Are you blind? No. You said I contradicted myself so prove it. And now you're just lying. Nope, you are. Need reminded? Look at #60. 14. I posted the link as an example of one reason health care costs are so high. I then added doctor's fees as another. They are by no means the only reasons. the only medical doctors I hold any sympathy for are general practitioners. I have absolutely no sympathy for a surgeon who whines about his $250,000 sports car being in the shop so he has to drive his Mercedes to the country club picnic. Those miserable excuses for human beings are worse than vultures. At least vultures wait until you are dead before feasting on you. 15. Ok, so we lock up any gun that kills a person and allow the one holding it to go free. After all, it was the gun that did the killing. Makes perfect sense to me. 16. Part of the reason health care is so damn expensive. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44893005/ns/business-forbes_com/ Gotta love drug companies and doctors. "Don't want to pay our ridiculously high prices and fees? Fine. You can just die." 17. Uh, the same way you've accepted that you've directly contradicted yourself several times in this thread? If you see contradiction, post it. You've already made claims about my posts that I showed to be false. You even claimed one of your's was mine. HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit.
  18. Then we're in agreement; gun permits should be denied when a person is thought to be unstable. No, they should only be denied to those who are proven unstable. Hell, most people think all skydivers are unstable. Should skydivers be denied the right to own a gun? 19. Common sense says that since she was willing and able to commit a premeditated double murder, violating a TRO would mean very little to her. The article doesn't really give us enough detail to know whether it was premeditated or not. There's nothing in the article that says HOW the murder was committed, like with a weapon she carried to the scene. It's entirely possible the chick showed up to just talk to the guy, maybe try to have reconciliation sex with him and only flipped out when she discovered he already had a reserve packed, grabbed one of HIS guns and started shooting. I'm not saying that's what happened, but there's no way of knowing what actually did happen from reading that article. Well, since they were shot to death it is highly doubtful she shot them with a knife from the kitchen. Just as unlikely she picked the gun up at his place. Far more likely she took it with her, hence, premeditation. Of course, they may have been practicing a three-way when she flipped out, ran to the kitchen, grabbed the first Ginsu knife she found and shot them with it. But I doubt it. 20. Yes and by a trained professional. Be that as it may, if he had a gun, I'd say it's a good bet there would have been more dead people. Clearly they made the correct decision to not give the guy the permit. Or would your argument be that if he'd been given the permit, he would -never- flip out and always would have been a model citizen? The simple fact he went into a police station with a samurai sword and started hacking away sort of says he was pretty unstable to begin with. The system worked this time. Whatcha bitchin' for? I suppose you'd have to ask Kennedy as he made the original post. Me. I'm thinking the entire incident proves why some people shouldn't be allowed to have guns. Kennedy wasn't bitchin'. He, as most sensible people, blames the person and not the tool. The incident also proves why competent people should never be denied the right to have a gun and use it for self preservation. What if he had gone into a cafe or diner instead? It's a pretty sure bet there would not be a trained professional there to protect the customers. 24. I joined the discussion because I nbelieve this is a case of censorship that is BAD and a poster was saying it was ok. As far as parsing the definition of "censorship" to the nth degree......really?? Going by the first and foremost definition listed in what is arguably one of the most accepted and respected dictionaries in the world is "parsing and dissecting"? Hell, what Disney did is a perfect example of censorship. I thought you, of all people, could understand a simple definition from a dictionary. I guess I was wrong. My apologies. If you still believe it is not censorship, then tell us why you think that way? How does it not fit the definition? You're going to have to do some "parsing and dissecting" to make that work out. 25. No, you have just tried to make far more of the discussion than what was there. It was very simple: I called Disney's actions censorship. You and one or two others didn't agree. I proved you wrong by posting the definition as found in a well respected and accepted dictionary. You and others didn't like being proved wrong so you start squirming. Accept the fact you were wrong and get on with life.
