You're missing the point. You're still opening at 2500 when you should be opening at 3000. I cannot agree more. When I was a student, I was not allowed, ever, to pull below 4000. I moved down to 3500 and eventually to 3000, but have no hesitation whatsoever about bumping that up again if I'm doing anything new. My first pack job, pull at 4000. My first 2 way, break off at 4500 and pull at 4000. First jump after breaking for the winter, pull at 4500. Extra altitude is your friend! Your speaking the gospel my friend! Besides, you can always burn extra alti once the canopy is open by just spinning a little. Heck, I actually like to spin my canopy!

USPA GM pledge on landing patterns (was: Fatality - Brazil)
flyinhi79 replied to Bill_K's topic in Safety and Training
Maybe it would help if this was posted on the front page of USPA, written in every Parachutist mag, posted at every drop zone, talked about on Safety day, and posted where lift tickets are purchased. I think it would also help if DZO were required to have landing paterns posted for each landing zone and fines were given to skydivers that do not follow them. -
What alititude do you require your students to lock-on and pull at?
flyinhi79 replied to flyinhi79's topic in Instructors
Light bulb It actually sounds safer and more realistic to teach "when you see 6K, you are about 2.5 seconds away from pulling. Take a deep breath, arch, check your alti again, and wave and pull." and you already put it into quotes for me Now that I think about it, looking at the alti for 1k and ignoring everything around you seems really stupid! -
What alititude do you require your students to lock-on and pull at?
flyinhi79 replied to flyinhi79's topic in Instructors
I have been reading a thread in safety and training called "White Out" and there has been much talk about students choosing different pull altitudes. When I was an AFF student, I was told to lock on at 6500ft and wave off than pull at 5500ft. When I was getting coach jumps, I was told to be under canopy by 3500ft! However, I have heard of guys going as low as 2000ft to pull. This seems absolutely CRAZY to me. Especially, a low jump number skydiver or student. So, my questions are as follows... 1. How low do you let your students go before you require them to lock-on? 2. How low do you let your students go before you require them to pull? 3. How low do you let your students go before you pull for them? 4. What altitude do you feel is the best all around pull altitude for new/newer skydivers? 5. What is your hard-deck for students/newbie’s? I appreciate any answers you can provide! Kind Regards, Daniel -
My T-Shirts all say, 'I eat breakfast 300 yards from 4000 Cubans who are trained to kill me' on the back and "OH My God Look At Me Bitches" on the front. LMAO On a serious note: You can design a T-shirt yourself with a computer and deskjet printer that allows you to print whatever design you want.

I think people would take you more seriously if you took the time and updated your profile with all those jumps LMAO I know I probably have a jump or two I have not updated in my profile. Those extra jumps would definitely make people read my posts with more attention. Oh Man, I know I going to flammed for this one hehe.

Do you know of any up and coming classes in my area?
-
I pull at that height because it's where I feel most comfortable, I fly a very light wingloading and I'm fully open by on average ~2200ft. So if the minimum states I have to open at 3000ft for the next 15 jumps or so... I will obligued... but I do not feel any bit safer (quite the opposite) trying to do a 2 second delay poised exit. I was just doing what felt safe and comfortable So when I'm legally allowed to do it, of course I will go back to deploying at 2500ft. If that's ignorant, well I'm ignorant :( Bro, Do you not enjoy the canopy flight part of the skydive? For the record, nobody called you ignorant! All anyone ever tries to do on this site and IMHO in this sport is explain the risks of all choices! Sometimes, we learn the hard way. I learned the hard way about low turns/no flare/cross wind landings and had to take a 4 month break! I was told by many PRO's to sit the load out! But I choice otherwise. It is scary to think that your instructors have not explained this to you. Be safe, and I hope to skydive with you one day! Blues, Daniel

I am all healed up from my accident and ready to start jumping again. I have been out for 4 months though so I want to take a canopy control class before jumping alone again. I called SKydive AZ and they do not have an official canopy control class scheduled but said I could have one of the instructors work one-on-one with me. I was wondering if this would be the best solution for my situation. If not, how should I go about getting CC training? Does anyone know of any up-and-coming workshops for CC? Please advise. Many Thanks, Daniel

2500!!!!! When I was in AFF and Coach jumps I was required to be locked in at 6500 and wave off and pull at 5500!!!! Are you sure you didn't mean 5500????? IMHO, there is no need to take such a HUGE risk by pulling that low! If you are not under canopy until 2000-2500 feet and you than have to do a canopy control check "visually inspect the canopy for mals, release the brakes, do a 360 right, 360 left, and full flare" you are down to around 1000-1500 feet!!!! Than you have to get to your holding area. This leaves very little room for error. I swear I was told or it was written in the SIM that a student is required to waive off and pull at 5500ft. Anyone know more about this??? Please advise.

How many jumps do you have left? How many have you already done? If the instructors say it fits and feel safe with you wearing it than I would trust what they have to say. Maybe you can post some pictures as it is difficult for anyone to understand without actually seeing how tight it is.

Why did the X games drop skysurfing?
flyinhi79 replied to morris's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Exactly, why sponsor something that people can't sit in bleachers and watch and then run out and purchase ... I have a solution! We just need to figure out a way to bring skysurfing closer to the ground -
Oh I see! Thank you for clearing it up. I did not want to hijake your thread, so I started this one. I am super surprised no one has flammed me for low jump numbers and asking a stupid question "it's really nice"

WOW!! Your cool!! So he wears cycling shorts, WTF is wrong with that??? Why would you not want to jump at his DZ???? You scared it is a bunch of gays???? Your comments are very ignorant!!!! Fact check that if you want to. How ignorant do you have to be to think that people jump wearing blindfolds just becuase he wears protective gear of his choosing????? Full disclosure i am not gay and dont give a shit what you or anyone else thinks. I just dont like ignorant comments!!!! I am sure you impressed you skygod friends thought You are so cool! Now this shit is just plain priceless! Gay cycling shorts... Over sensitive closet cases... Trying hard not to pee my pants... Damn those skygods who won't accept my gayness! Funny! Maybe everyone should just wear dresses That way people could not tell the gays from the skygods LMAO

I would put some money that you crushed T12 and L1 verts. There is a surgical fix called a kyphoplasty. Hopefully, there is not more than 25 degrees curve in that area as anything over that is likely to need surgical intervention. I only know about this because I also had a stupid hurts landing "I mean I was fighting a 2000# bull and after picking it up I lost my grip and... " Anyways, I have been out for 3 months. However, I am feeling pretty good. So I signed up for a canopy control class so I can make sure not to repeat! Heal fast Blue Skies, Daniel

Sorry I did not know how to URL it. Is it easy to explain what steps I need to go through to URL it? I would much prefer it being a clicky

That is why i didnt go into detail about how to do it solo. Cuase he should ask an instructor how to do it in person so the instructor can show him how to streemline his body to get out of it. I have seen the TM video about it. I appreciate your concern. I figured that is how some members would respond and that is why I wrote "I have low jump numbers and understand anything that is posted on this site should be verified through my home DZ instructors. So, do not think I am going to read something here and just go try it without face to face advice. Stupid hurts " at the bottom of my post. This way people would know I was not going to go try it without speaking to an authority on it! It seems it is something more relating to tandoms and wingsuits than solo's. So it makes more sense now. I just did not want to hijack the other guys thread for my own questions. Again, I appreciate everyones responses

Is it possible that the other thread was discussing "flat turns" and not flat spins? There's a thread in incidents in which the value of practicing flat turns is being discussed. Thank you for all the replies. The thread I was reading is [http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3241497;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread] Post #27 where the guy said he has done flat spins so he can get experience with them in case he finds himself in one unintentionally.
-
Hello, I was reading another thread and noticed someone say they "purposely induced a flat spin so they could learn how to recover." I understand what a flat spin is for a plane but is it the same thing for a canopy and how the heck can you get your canopy to do it? Is this a common mal that should be practiced? I have low jump numbers and understand anything that is posted on this site should be verified through my home DZ instructors. So, do not think I am going to read something here and just go try it without face to face advice. Stupid hurts

AIRCRAFT EMERGENCY PROCEDUREs FOR SKYDIVING
flyinhi79 replied to DON321's topic in Safety and Training
I propose a nomination for "The best post in 2008", so far I second that nomination! I would imagine the pilot was thinking "shit where the hell did everyone go? I mean, I swear I had people on board, didn't I??? " -

I saw you tumbling and I live in Arizona! It was crazy. There were feet flying everywhere -
Oh I see. I apologize for misunderstanding. Great Job on getting the AFF part out of the way!
-
Great Job! Maybe I am a little confused. I had to put in 25 jumps to get my A lic. I had 7 AFF jumps, 1 Hop and Pop, 2 Solo's, 10 Coach Jumps, 4 Solo's and than I got my A lic. Also, my first tandem skydive counted. Isn't it standard across USPA drop zones?
