The architect of the bill was Treasury Secretary Paulson. However, Bush's increases in government spending, running up a $5trillion debt, started long before that. The President doesn't make the budget, Congress does. So, we had a Republican and then a Democratic Congress all pouring slops into the hog trough as fast as they could. Both sides share blame in the matter - trying to say it's all the fault of a single side is a moronic ploy. It's just sheer coincidence that over last 40 years deficits have been consistently higher under Republican presidents than under Democrats, regardless of the make-up of Congress. I have a nice bridge you might like to buy.

It’s very hard for me to notice whether you are ‘reading’ or not, as I’ve written before my psychic powers aren’t working. But you have now acknowledged that you are not making constructive replies; instead, when challenged you repetitively make comments reminiscent of the boys who chased me during 7th grade recess. (Will you be asking if I have ‘cooties’ next? )[/I] So the boys who chased you in 7th grade wanted to know where you jump? . Suggest you look up "reminiscent" in a dictionary.

"The sky is falling, the sky is falling". BTW, I didn't see Obama's name on the bill anywhere.

OK, but those 65 year old LEGAL immigrating Polish grandmothers might have trouble digging latrines and storming bunkers. Somebody has to do the paperwork. So you get "Dwa piwa podobac sie" on your requisition forms. Very useful. Good job we didn't make legal immigrants like Enrico Fermi, John von Neumann and Hans Bethe serve a couple of years in the army before they joined the Manhattan Project. Clearly you have NOT considered the implications (mostly stupid) of your proposal. Actually I didn't have to. France and Spain did it for me. Both countries have foriegn legions. Geuss what they're purpose is ? To teach spelling and grammar to immigrants? So the concept of "mandatory" has escaped you.

Banks Hit Jobless with Fees on Unemployment Comp
Capt.Slog replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
So screwing people twice over is OK with you as long as the two screwings have "nothing to do" with each other. Maybe the local supermarket should charge me $0.50 for use of the checkout, and the gas station should charge me $1.00 for use of the pump. -
11 Year Old Boy Charged With Murder As An Adult
Capt.Slog replied to Andy_Copland's topic in Speakers Corner
Calling a child "an adult" does not make him so. -
That caused the financial crisis? How? Did Frank force any investment bank to buy crappy securities? Did Frank force Moodys to rate crap as "AAA"? Did Frank force any broker to push NINJA mortgages?

I interpreted it as this (run-on) sentence of yours: "How much are you willing to bet that a good number of the people whose homes are being foreclosed have the ability to pay their mortgages if only they would be willing to make some sacrifices when it comes to their standard of living?" I'd be interested to know what data you have to back up that claim.

It long has, though the invocation here is quite the reach. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law There are many corollaries to Godwin's law, some considered more canonical (by being adopted by Godwin himself)[2] than others invented later.[1] For example, there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress. This principle itself is frequently referred to as Godwin's Law. It is considered poor form to raise such a comparison arbitrarily with the motive of ending the thread. There is a widely recognized codicil that any such ulterior-motive invocation of Godwin's law will be unsuccessful (this is sometimes referred to as "Quirk's Exception").[6] Godwin's Law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one's opponent) with Hitler or Nazis or their actions. It does not apply to discussions directly addressing genocide, propaganda, or other mainstays of the Nazi regime.[citation needed] Whether it applies to humorous use or references to oneself is open to interpretation, because although mentioning and trivializing Nazism in an online discussion, this would not be a fallacious attack against a debate opponent. However, Godwin's Law itself can be abused, as a distraction or diversion, that fallaciously miscasts an opponent's argument as hyperbole, especially if the comparisons made by the argument are actually appropriate. A 2005 Reason magazine article argued that Godwin's Law is often misused to ridicule even valid comparisons.[7] A recent movement has taken to calling Godwin's Law on mentions of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's name in comment threads. Don't confuse a corollary with the law itself.

The deadbeats who got us into this mess are the Wall Street Wizards who figured out how to leverage debt to the Nth degree, so that eventually the house of cards they built came tumbling down.

It appears that one of the investors who lost a bundle to the Madoff scam was the author of "The Annals of Gullibility; Why We Are Duped and How To Avoid It". Oh the irony.

It misses the contribution of the Fed under Greenspan in consistently over-reacting to "crises", driving instability and leading eventually to interest rates that fed the housing bubble. And it forgot to mention that Clinton got a BJ.

Your problem is you let facts stand in the way of a good right-wing rant.

That's hardly any more than Hitler, and god had millennia to do it. Pretty poor effort for an omnipotent deity.

Please remember that Benedict used to be Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (aka The INQUISITION, that lovely organization that brought you torture and burning at the stake).

About time. And at the expense of how many trees and how much CO2 spewed into the air to produce, transport, and dispose of that dead tree waste called bulk mailing? Try this: Fascinating way you have of admitting that you were WRONG. Have you been taking lessons from mnealtx? You cited one year of results. Look at history. Even in the article you cite the author stresses that the Postal Service "managed" to post a net profit. Nice jab at mnealtx, though. That's really becoming - or at least revealing - of you. If you bothered to do just a tiny teeny bit of research you would find that the USPS has averaged over $1Billion/yr in profits over the past 10 years. 2008, the year Bill cited, was actually down because of the economy,
