Question: I been jumping my Katana 170 for 2 1/2 years now and was getting bored. Instead of doing the intelligent thing and demoing one, I just went out and bought a Crossfire 2 - 139. I will be loading the CF2 at about 1.6. Do you think I'll feel much more performance? Can you flare this thing on a straight in approach? I am getting older and don't really swoop (old school toggle hook turn champ)

Very Cool thanks!

Thanks very much!, exactly what I wanted to know....:)

This place has it all, beautiful aircraft, very friendly experienced staff, hugh flat landing area, and all the amenities you could want at a facility. The camp ground has water, and hydro as well. Also very nice DZO.....

The manual really doesn't say if it turns off. It's a pain if it does though since it's buried under all the padding...

I just got a Solo II audible and was curious if you have to turn it on at the start of each day? I want to use it in my Bonehead Mantle but it's tucked away deep inside and I don't want to have to dig it out each day if I don't have to. Anybody know if it stays on or not? thanks Scott

Ya I don't like the fact that these people were brought in that have such poor command of english. That being said there will be an issue on bad weather days when the tandem students are trained and then they come back at a later date. They will require retraining but the instructor will only receive $32. This to me is completely unfair. Well the only good thing is that there are lots of other DZ in Ontario that compensate their staff fairly.

It would seem that in 2008 the going rate was between $35 - $50 a tandem, with the average being over $40. Curious that in 2010 STI would reduce it's tandem rates to $32. Scott Weaire STI tandem Instructor

Serious Question - Advice Needed

My CX12 lets me turn off the stabilization, and I think the results are better. The BH Mantle is on order so I can't wait to get it and install all the goodies on this new helmet. The Nvertigo for video only served me well, I hope I like the new helmet! Thanks again guys for all the help! Blue Skies.. Scott -

How do you find the Bone Head Mantle for comfort and fit? -

Thanks for the great advice everyone! I guess I'll spend the extra and get the Wes pro or Mantle. I thought that the camera on the front would balance the weight and make it easier on my neck, but it sounds like the opposite. Thanks again -

I have an Invertigo X helmet with a HDR-CX12 camera, works great but want to do stills as well. I don't want to mount the video camera on the side (too wide). So I'm looking at the "Vapour Narrow" or the Bonehead Narrow. They are both a lot of money so I would like advice from you guys on which one is better. I don't want to waste hundreds of dollars by picking the wrong one. Can I get your honest opinion on which is best, or a recommendation of another helmet this style. Thanks guys.. Blue skies.... -
Thanks man!

I have a CX12 and every time I start and stop recording it makes a new clip. Is there a way to start and stop but keep it in the same video clip??? Tandems are pain putting all the pieces together... Thanks guys

Hey thanks so much for the excellent advice. The best way to learn is from the people with experience. So thanks again guys, I mean it! Scott

Thanks for the advice, I just get a bit nervous with an $900.00 camera held in a box by bungee cord. On the other thread you mentioned setting the camera to "beach". Why beach?? Thanks for the help!!

Instead of me finding out the long hard way. You guys got any advice for what settings I should use on my new CX-12? Any advice would be great, Thanks! Scooter

Thanks, I was afraid I bought a lemon. Last dumb question if you don't mind. I got a Cookie black box to go with it, and was wondering what people do to secure the camera in the box. It has a tripod screw but that would be a pain taking on and off all the time. Any ideas? Thanks for the help Blue Skies Scott

I just bought a new Sony HDR-CX12 and I 'm a bit worried. I heard some horror stories about the stabilization screwing up the picture. Has anyone here used this camera with any luck?? My main purpose is tandem videos. I realize that this question may have been asked before but I couldn't find it. Thanks for the advice ...

Well I've put 9 jumps on the Katana 170 and I was a little shocked at the lack of difference between my old Sabre and it. Ya it turns a bit faster and has a greater forward speed but not that much! I wish now that I had bought a smaller canopy. Don't get me wrong it's a nice canopy but when I jumped my Sabre 170 and then the Katana 170 back to back, I think the Sabre is slightly more ground hungry.

I'm a senior instructor at my drop zone and I do a lot of coaching and jump mastering. So I do a lot of 5-10 solo's after dispatching students. I'm 44 so I don't really want to start swooping hard core. Maybe after I get used to the canopy I'll do 90s max. Mainly I want something fun to fly up high, spirals and such. I'm hoping that this canopy at 1.35 wl will give me fun up high and swoopier landings straight in than my Sabre 1 170...
-
I'm gonna take it really easy for a while. I bought the canopy to have some fun up high , spiral and such. I shatter my knee once doing a low toggle hook turn on my monarch 150 and I'm not looking to repeat it. Under a 1000' i just want to set up for straight in approachs. I'm hoping I can do that and land it reasonably. What do you think too much of a hot rod for an old fart like me?

Sound like great advice thanks !!!

I'm switching over to a Katana 170 from an old Sabre1 170. I know that it should turn faster but I'm wondering if anyone out there has flown a Katana this big. I understand that a 107 is quick and nibble but this thing is 170 square feet .... Anyone fly a big Katana like this (1.35 wing load)
