Can I keep my knife and fork for dessert if I register them first?

Yes. People who live in rural areas expect peace and quiet. They'll still hear that beast from that far away. An eighth of a mile is only 500-feet or so.

Stop-and-Frisks Have Done Little to Reduce Shootings
SkyPiggie replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Gosh, I guess New Yawkers won't be able to hide their gun inside a Big Slurp soda cup any more. -
Think of it more as burning *ideas* and you'll find more agreement in the analogy. Yes, it's the idea of it that is more disturbing then the physical act of doing it. I'm thinking of other things that have been burned in protests, like books, crosses, churches and abortion clinics. Take a burning cross, for example: one the one hand it's just a piece of wood, but as a symbol of KKK racism and terror, it's something far worse. A bonfire of guns is just a bunch of wood and steel, but look at the nations that have confiscated and destroyed guns: Nazi Germany, North Korea, China, Venezuela. Those aren't exactly beacons of freedom, prosperity and human rights. So the idea of burning the guns, just like the KKK cross, symbolizes something far worse.

"The net worth of the American family has fallen to its lowest level in two decades, according to government data released Monday, driven by a more than 40 percent drop in their stakes in their homes. The Federal Reserve’s detailed survey of consumer finances showed families’ median wealth plunged from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010 — a 39 percent decline." http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/fed-americans-wealth-dropped-40-percent/2012/06/11/gJQAlIsCVV_story.html Here's the "change" you believed in...

When he gave it to you as a loaner, the assumption would be that the loan should only last as long as it takes you to acquire a new reserve for yourself. It was just something to tide you over that acquisition period. And that's maybe two or three months. But by using it for an entire year, you have taken advantage of his generosity. And during that year, he no longer had the use of his backup rig if he had needed it, so he may have suffered because of your inattention to the matter. You also should not have "forgotten" it - that shows that it just wasn't a priority for you to return the borrowed property, and that you didn't treat the loan with the proper respect that you should have. After hearing of this, Skypiggie certainly wouldn't loan you anything of hers.

You don't see any injustice in having to give up your sport and possessions because of what some criminals do? That's very... um... subservient of you. I was going to say "sheep-like", but as a piggie myself, I don't want to slander my fellow barn-yard animals. How would turning in your lawfully owned, stored and used hunting firearms help prevent crime? And if you believe that turning in your guns would be good for society, then why don't you just go ahead and do it right now? If you believe in that argument, then the mere fact that you own them now means that you believe you are a already a detriment and a danger to society. You're causing harm by increasing the possibility of crime. In fact, by continuing to possess those guns while believing they're a negative to society, means that you just don't care about your fellow countrymen. You're selfish and want to keep your arms, despite the fact that you believe they're bad. So you should do the right thing and turn them in right now. Don't wait for the government to make it a mandate. Walk your talk. Turn 'em all in.

Why are you concerned about why he's concerned? Do you never worry about what happens to other people outside your own borders? Of course, I do. But rarely caring about their weapons And disarmed as we are, we poor little Germans, I just do welcome every decision to ban weapons, wherever that country might be. Why are you in favor of other countries banning firearms for their citizenry, when you own firearms yourself? Don't you think that other people should have the same freedom to own firearms that you have? And if your own country of Germany were to ban civilian firearm ownership, would you applaud that decision and be happy to turn your guns in, with no tears shed for their loss? And I notice a contradiction in your post: you say you rarely care about their weapons, and then in the very next breath you welcome every decision to ban weapons. If you don't care about weapons, you wouldn't welcome decisions to ban them - you would be indifferent. And if you welcome decisions to ban them, then you DO care about their weapons. So, you're not making sense to little sky piggie...

Oh my, sweet little Wendy! The fine lady who is always so level-headed and tolerant of others, no matter what their stripes. All sugar and spice and all things nice. And here she is hoping for an early death to Chavez - I'm shocked!

When guns are banned the criminals still get them anyway, through a black market, theft, or whatever. So what this edict will do is take guns away only from the law-abiding who are the victims of criminals. And where does that leave the honest citizens of Venezuela? Rampant crime and murder, and no means with which to defend themselves from it. Yeah, nothing could go wrong with that formula!

US self-defence expert banned from entering UK
SkyPiggie replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
That's not the business of Mr. Larkin. And surely not yours. Keep your cowboy behaviour in Texas. Before telling us how to kill ourselves, you should clean your own backyards at first. What will YOU do in those circumstances? If you think that violence in self defense is wrong, then tell me what the alternative is. Tell me what non-violent means YOU would use to save your family. -
Racist Republican Candidate Holds Cross Burning
SkyPiggie replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
So you think it's proper to take the actions of a single man and to use that to characterize the nature of an entire political party comprised of tens of millions of people? That would seem to make your view just as extreme as his. -

So when someone breaks into your home and is about to inflict violence upon you and your family, then what is YOUR non-cowboy solution? -

Gosh, I didn't know you were king of the world, with the authority to speak for everyone. Pardon me for daring to challenge you, king pohl. Aren't you "posturizing" yourself right now? Oh, pardon me again, I guess kings are allowed to posturize, but not peons like me. One more question about this home rule thing. So when the Beatles were banned from America by many groups, radio stations, and even a President - you were absolutely in favor of that, because it was our rules, and we can do whatever we want, right? As for speaking about politics in other countries, I could have sworn I just saw you doing that about U.S. health care, North Korea (whom you think are good guys), and so on. And that last one, just goes to show you that your opinions aren't worth anything. So I shan't waste any more of my time with your ramblings. Have a good day, king pohl. -
Police refuse to return guns to lawful citizens
SkyPiggie replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
So let's say that the police pull you over in your car for speeding on the way home from the drop zone, find expired insurance, and put the car and everything in it including your parachute rig into an impound lot. Then you straighten out the insurance mess and go to retrieve your vehicle and possessions. Does the state get to keep everything for which you can't produce a purchase receipt? Including your rig? That's like setting up a default that all possessions belong to the state, unless you can prove otherwise. I sincerely hope that you really don't think this is a good idea. The article explain the law very well: "In California, the Evidence Code makes it clear that simple possession is proof of ownership of almost all types of common property, including firearms," said Don Kilmer, attorney for the plaintiffs... According to longstanding California law, every firearm seized during a police investigation must be inventoried; a copy of that list is given to the person from whom firearms are seized. Every law enforcement agency knows which person they took firearms from and what specific firearms were taken." So, the gun was in your possession, and therefore it's yours unless they can prove otherwise, like finding it on a stolen gun list. And they gave you a receipt for it when they confiscated it. Therefore, to get it back, all you should have to do is show the receipt they gave you when they took it. There are no sales receipts for many guns, because they're very old, and have been passed down from one generation to the next. That doesn't mean the government gets to keep 'em. So, are you the one person who has voted to keep the guns? -

Who is this "we" that you are pretending to speak for? It's rather presumptuous of you to pronounce judgement upon him on behalf of everyone else, don't you think? And if he shouldn't speak on subjects outside of Texas, does that mean that you also should refrain from spaeking on any topics outside your own home state? My goodness, little Skypiggie is shocked at the attitudes that some people have here. -

"While MSM Proclaims Its Death, The Tea Party Builds an Army" "The Tea Party has spent the past several months methodically building, training, and developing its army without much flashy media attention. The lack of media coverage has led a few people to ask if the Tea Party is still alive. After his defeat at the hands of the Tea Party, soon-to-be former Senator Dick Lugar can tell you, the Tea Party is not only alive but they are also organized to fight, and win." http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/05/09/jenny-beth-martin-tea-party

Democrat-controlled Senate laziest in 20 years
SkyPiggie replied to SkyPiggie's topic in Speakers Corner
Twasn't a rant. Why did you call it that? Seems a lot of people aren't thinking about all the things that need to be un-done. The Senate not only has the power to spend money, but also the power to stop the spending of money. And what about all those judicial appointments - do you want the criminal justice system backlogged? There are things that need doing, and the Dems aren't doing it. But hey, I guess everyone's happy with the way things are, and with a country headed for bankruptcy!
