  1. Let them know they need a box jump to maintain that title... Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  2. Hey, I was there that day! Got you guys in my logbook. Without even looking, I recall it was a Wednesday, we got winded out, 30+ gusts - Houps got out the ParaCommander & hooked it to his truck hitch with a rope so we could kite that thing up! Got 25' in the air hanging from armpits in the harness, flailing the wooden toggles back & forth... (safety first). Damn fun! *Got your UCONN sticker on my refrigerator - glad to have jumped with you.
  3. Thanks for your experience, guys. I always appreciate learning something. So, the risers are simply twisted 180 & hooked up as usual? I'm trying to get a good look at it, but it's hard to see. Is there anything different about the cutaway cables/housings? Is it just my eyes, or is there something funny about the toggle setup? Are those dive loops flapping around and are they hooked up above the connection line attachments? Final question - is that a twist-tie securing the toggle?? 4. Especially the cutaway system at the end of the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=WIm8Bn7ePcY&NR=1 Apparently Russian. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  5. Not theory. Here one seems to understand the dynamics of the opening process with respect to horizontal altitude loss on a H&P with immediate deployment.. Sort of assumes a specific attitude of the aircraft, doesn't it? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 8. No. The sooner the better. For the common good. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  9. So, it's ethical to distort the truth to the general public in order to gain their business? Lie or cover-up reality to present the image that skydiving is injury-free? Slippery slope, people. You're only building perceptions that cause more repercussions when the inevitable happens. That's the unavoidable situation when you 'Disney-ride' skydiving. Man up and ask the direct question of ALL students, AFF or tandem: "Do you realize that people die while participating in this sport? Understanding this, do you wish to go forward?" Put their responses on video and be willing to play it in court. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 10. Excess suspension lines are the only thing that can half-hitch the 'tongue'. Stowing lines on the d-bag to keep excess minimal and having the excess s-folded to the bottom of the container will keep them away from the 'tongue'. After stowing the d-bag in the container, one of my packing checks is pulling the d-bag down away from the reserve wall while pulling up on the closing loop (& tongue) and taking a visual of the tongue to be certain no lines are near it. Not a rigger, but I would guess to facilitate changing the loop. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 12. I recommend placing your flair somewhere between the naval and the colorbone. Don't use an excessive amount. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  13. So... did he make it back? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  14. I've heard of this one before, thought it apocryphal. Any links/threads? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  15. If he'd waited until the canopy failed at the altitude where he was over the runway, he'd be fucked, pure and simple. He *might* have have had time to realize what was going on and perhaps reach for the reserve handle, but that'd be about it. Decision altitude is up high for a reason. Carnival of errors here. Biggest one IMO is not checking his canopy after the collision. He had plenty of time to exercise options. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 16. I don't think anyone answered this yet, but @1:49, you can see his alti=3500', he pitches within 2 seconds after that, so I'm assuming he's open well above cutaway altitude - at least a couple grand AGL. vid (same link as original): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQSkN0Trrjk&feature=youtu.be Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 17. Of course it's a good idea.. provided he puts in 5 or 6 jumps on a 170 first. Safety, after all. Let him know it'll make it easier for him to work those front risers. Will you please video his awesome landings? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  18. If you're loading a 97 at 1.5, that's not exactly a big boi. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  19. I've wondered how much this may have contributed to those seemingly unexplainable low cutaways. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  20. Now you make a flippant remark? Should we assume then, that your initial "instruction" was flippant, too, and was intended to be ignored? Give him a break - he may have missed the canopy ads since he was looking for some panties. All his others are in a wad. 21. Ha. First time I flew in his plane, the initial briefing point was "If you fart, he will drop you where you are" Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  22. ...and then continue on with such gems as - I'll leave out the details of your PM to me, but it included one of the above insults, and a brand new one 'for my eyes only'. Who's the emotional one now? All I did was attack your position, you attacked me personally. The good news is that you've revealed your intellect to the group, so now it can be duly noted, thank for your service to the community. Don't feed the immature trolls, Dave. I don't even think they deserve the effort in replying to them. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. 23. Looks certain now Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  24. Did I miss the part where he trusted his rears? Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man. - Anthony Burgess
  25. Unless I missed something, that 'ol chest strap should have been undone well before hitting the water anyway. RSL (if applicable) & chest strap are the first things I'd go for as soon as I thought I had a good canopy. Every fight is a food fight if you're a cannibal Goodness is something to be chosen.
