Question for the gun guys/gals. (Non-political question)
birdlike replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
I assume you mean a .22 caliber, not a Glock 22...? In my experience, .22 cal. is, it's fair to say, notorious for misfeeding. I had experience with a Beretta Bobcat .22 that I would simply never be willing to use defensively unless every other gun I had was somehow missing. (In other words, I would never opt for using it for CCW or home defense by choice.) I have never had a problem with misfeeds in a Glock; the problem as described really does seem to me like a weak magazine spring issue. That would explain the misfeeds at the same time as it would explain the failure to achieve slide lock. The magazine follower (the plastic base that the first cartridge sits on) has to engage the slide stop lever. In order to do that, the lever must not be worn, and the magazine spring must push with enough force. Think about the fact that the mag spring's tension is least when the mag is empty, and that's when it's trying to do its slide-stop magic. Try any other magazine(s) and see if the problem persists. Darius, did you attempt to narrow this down to one specific magazine? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
I don't want to be the sexiest woman-hating fuck, just a sexy woman-hating fuck. j/k The PC police will never let that happen. They believe that doing so would scare women who really have been raped out of making the report and the accusation. Watch an episode of COPS and you can begin to see the real-world application of such thinking. Honestly, if I were a woman, I'd be really angry at the stuff that the authorities are doing in the name of "protecting women." And example: When cops show up at the home of a woman who has called because of a domestic fight, if there is a shred of visible evidence that he may have hit her, they will arrest him regardless of whethe she screams up and down that she doesn't want to press charges, doesn't want him arrested, etc. The reason they do this is because they are worried that the woman may truly want a prosecution but is terrified and living in fear of what he will do if she swears out a complaint against him, and they don't want an abuser to not be caught for it just because he has the woman too afraid to come forward. So the reason I'd be angry if I were a woman is that the authorities are telling me that I'm too stupid/afraid to be able to tell when I really need my S.O. arrested for beating me. They have removed my own discretion, and insulted me by implying overtly that I cannot possibly have the fortitude to make the decision on my own. Did Fonzie rape that alien chick Cupcake on the cartoon and I missed it?! You never met a chick that fucked up that she would lie to ruin someone just because of the fucked up shit swirling around inside her own head? You're a lucky man, then. I bought, read, and passed to a friend the book that the editors of Popular Mechanics magazine wrote about 9/11 conspiracy theories. They did a pretty thorough shredding of all the major theories, from "the steel wouldn't have melted" to "it was a missile hit the Pentagon." I had to send it to a friend who was quoting chapter and verse from that internet nonsense "Loose Change." Hey, did you know that Rosie O'Donnell is a structural engineer?! I didn't see a choice for "air-popped with some salt and butter on it," but that's what I would've chosen instead of "other." I'm also a big fan of Smart Food, which I discovered (and nearly lived on) in college. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Boy, God really fucked up big-time if he created us, but wanted a planet that was gonna remain in some sort of idyllic homeostasis, didn't he? I mean, we seem to find a way to go and do EVERY SINGLE THING he specifically wanted us NOT to do! ...and enjoy the shit out of doing it!! Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

what happens when you have no dog or gun at home?
birdlike replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Except, I um, don't have the power to render a conviction on these "kids." There is no constitutional protection against my coming to a feeling, a suspicion, a conclusion, that "they did it." Therefore, I have not done anything to infringe on their rights. If everyone had to KNOW that someone was guilty before the trial had taken place, there would never BE any trials, because we'd have to know what the trial will prove before a trial had taken place. See, someone has to think that the evidence POINTS TO their guilt before they even begin to hold a trial. How am I doing anything worse than what police do when they arrest people they think might turn out, after a trial, to be the ones who did the crime? Just like I don't owe anyone protection of their First Amendment rights because I'm not the government, neither do I owe them a withholding of my feeling that they're guilty until they're convicted. I'm not the government. Those restrictions are placed on what the government may do. (Astound me by saying you follow my logic, there.) The one demonstrating a failure to understand "how things are supposed to work" appears to be the guy who's telling me that because I think these suspects are guilty, they are being denied a fair trial. That's really a pretty silly assertion. I also don't know what the facts of this case do or don't have to do with my not having listed my jump numbers or license type for all to see. Is that the basis you use for whether to respect people? My ass won't be used for shoving anything up in the near future, thanks very much for the offer though. By the way, do you always talk like Super Mario? "Take you $100..." Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
So, about the so-called right to self defense in Britain
birdlike replied to birdlike's topic in Speakers Corner
In the short time I've been here in Speakers Corner, I've seen threads that make this one look like an application for a Rhodes scholarship. What exactly about this thread brings SC so low? Was it the nonsensical responses of some of the posters to the initial post? The fact that they can't do anything to rebut the main idea of the thread, which is that Britain's criminal justice system is in disarray if it can bring charges like the ones in this case? I'd say it's probably the fact that no one can reply with something germain, but instead go off on meaningless, mindless tangents about whether I've been to the U.K. (as though I would have to have, in order to see something screwed up in this report), or whether I have a passport. Frankly, I am surprised that no one has challenged me about supporting George W. Bush yet. But I know it's coming... I think Amazon just must not have seen this thread yet is all. what happens when you have no dog or gun at home?
birdlike replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Welcome to the USA...you don't like due process...get the fuck out. Oh. Okay -- since you said so. No, seriously, this isn't about "due process," because there's no statutory or constitutional protection against having your fucking NAME published in the paper, not even if you're a minor. Where the fuck did you learn your civics? You have the gall to call me out as though I was mistaken about "due process"? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
Texas State Lawmaker Opposing Deadly Force Bill Shoots Would-Be Thief

Same here. He's a hypocrite. Now if the weight of the law comes down on him, and the civil suits are brought and he loses a fortune, he'll understand how full of shit he was for being anti-gun. He'll realize that the pro-gunners were right all along. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
So, about the so-called right to self defense in Britain
birdlike replied to birdlike's topic in Speakers Corner
I came across this article: Shopkeeper fined for hitting back against shoplifter/attacker What a load of shyte. They say that the "aggravating factor" was that he allegedly kicked the guy while he was on the ground. Sorry, that's just part of the defensive response. What if the guy was on the ground but was getting up, in the middle of saying that he's gonna finish you off? What about the fact that this shopkeeper was facing multiple attackers?! Britain is fucked up. All of you Brits who value your right to self defense, come on over here and we'll welcome you. Those who are pussies and think that all this guy should've done was call the police and wait while being stolen from and battered, stay there. I mean, if the Mexicans can come to the U.S. because their country is shit, and shouldn't be expected to stick around there and try to fix it, why should the Brits? Your ship is sinking into INSANITY that PROTECTS CRIMINALS. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -

That, and my general level of disgust that they put such a fucking asshole on t.v. and act like it's "entertainment," are two of the reasons I wouldn't watch that piece of shit show if you paid me to do it. It's human degenerate behavior masquerading as entertainment. It's not something we should celebrate, or watch. That asshole on the show should be locked in a fucking cell on medications. (Or someone should just beat the living shit out of him for being such a total shitbag asshole to so many people.) Short answer: No, I don't watch the show. Exactly. I used the Beretta 92FS because it's an EXTREMELY popular handgun. And being a handgun, I knew that the person to whom I responded didn't have a chance in hell of acquiring one--LEGALLY--in the U.K. as a civilian. (Probably not real easy to get one as a cop, either, but that's neither here nor there in this discussion.) People want to chirp in about how "guns aren't illegal" because someone could still jump through a few thousand legal hoops (including opening his home up to police inspection) just to own a single shot rifle or double-barreled small-gauge shotgun. That just proves my point, though: if your so-called "right" to obtain guns is that strictured, it's just about nonexistent, for all intents and purposes. And even if you could buy that Beretta, you'd be required to keep it locked in a bolted-down safe, unloaded, with ammo locked in a different safe; and if you did happen to have time to get all that stuff together to use the gun to repel a home invasion robbery/assault/rape/whatever, you'd face charges, and cops demanding to know why you didn't just run out the back door of your own home screaming into the phone for help. One is not born again and then...well...not anymore. When someone is born again, God changes their heart and gives them new desires and direction. He/she is a "new creature" in Christ. If that is not the case now for you....it never was in the first place. Ahhh, tautology! I knew we'd be seeing some o' that before long here! That's the best way to discredit anyone who ever belonged to this cult of religion. "Anyone who claims to have been a believer and then seen the light of reason and the fraud of the cult, well, he was never one with God in the first place." It's also a weak, pathetic, logically fallacious load of crap. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Me? Principally, the reason I care is because people of zealous belief--particularly zealous religious belief--have fucked up the world, cramming absurd myths down the throats of the gullible and the ignorant, and spawning hatred and squelching true learning and knowledge, for thousands of years. That's MY reason. But then, I have not come here and attacked this Pajarito fellow. I just have a strong dislike for religion. Yeah, you could call it a contempt if you like. Maybe you'd call it a guilt-by-association thing: I react to those who are strongly religious by seeing them as part of the problem I just described, or at least, actively not part of the solution. And how long would we last without the Chinese buying our 30 year treasuries, or trying to redeem all those purchased in the past couple years? Or without the oil and the foreign sales for our Fortune 500 companies? The rest of the world needs the US, but we need them just about as much. If the above was more than just idle fantasy, time to start studying more economics. All you're really telling me boils down to the fact that WE'RE truly fucked; THEY'RE truly fucked; the WORLD is truly fucked; HUMAN INTERACTION is an exercise in being truly fucked; and there ain't one fuckin' whit of reason to believe that this shit is EVER gonna get better, no matter what. At this point, I'm a nihilist. I'd like nothing more than to see the world destroy itself, because that's all it's capable of doing, and that's all it deserves, frankly. If there's a God, and he sees it and it makes him sad, then I say fuck you, YOU bear the blame for this fuckin' fiasco, asshole. So I'm a nihilist, and I think it would be entertaining in a "schadenfreude" kind of way. Everyone badmouths the U.S. no matter how much our heart may be in the right place, no matter how much we help. Let's see how they like it when we flip them off entirely, and BE as bad as they mischaracterize us as being. And yes, even if it means we sink with the rest of them into annihilation or decay or whatever. People have made this world into a spinning ball of shit, of hatred, of disease and decay and apathy and, worst of all IGNORANCE that cannot be excused. (See how many more people can identify Paris Hilton than, say, can name three Supreme Court justices.) Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Hey, while we're at it, I want to mention that no one asked me if I thought the IRAQI insurgents were "freedom fighters" or "terrorists"... Well, two different types of people look at this kind of scenario differently: - Someone like me asks which is more important, the FACT of what we're there to do, or the PERCEPTION, HOWEVER INCORRECT, of the people who saw us come into their country. - Someone who thinks that the perception, however wrong, of those who believe we're "invading" (in the CLASSICAL SENSE of "invading," please, like the way MONGOLS invaded, or MOORS invaded of old) even if it's not the case. If we're going to do "A" and despite making it clear what we're intending to do, some set of people is going to accuse us of doing "B" there really isn't anything that can be done about that. If someone is intent on misconstruing your actions, lies about it, and won't reconcile his allegations with the facts once they've been made abundantly clear to him, you have to dismiss his opinions. The funny thing, to me, is that Iraqis are killing Iraqis, muslims are killing muslims (something they were doing long before America was even a word on a map) and everyone wants to blame Americans. Hmph. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

I heard snips and sound bytes of Mr. Gore so ...erm... ebullient. If he was trying to rein in his adrenaline, he was doing a good job of it. He sounded so de-adrenalized in his so-called "excitement" that he must've popped about 32 quaaludes or something. That man is death warmed over. Are you saying that droughts do not naturally exist, and arid places on the earth are not normal, but a by-product of--specifically--man-made global warming?? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

So what's the solution? Bring up the poor until they are wealthy enough to consume as much as WE do? Oh, yeah, that'll solve the problem. I love how people do t.v. commercials and sponsor programs that try to feed, clothe and cure the impoverished masses... as though the planet will be better off if they continue to live and consume! Isn't that the most backward-fuckin' thinking? "We don't have enough to go around, so send some money here to help us perpetuate the eating/fucking/spawning cycle of the people in these shithole nations," as though that won't just perpetuate a cycle where they continue to need us to send more and more money, clothes and food. Seems more likely that the problem would be solved by eliminating the poor, starving, backward people on the planet, based on what you're saying. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
