  1. I still have to wonder whether it's reasonable to expect all the people who were willing to engage in the drugs black market, including murdering people, if suddenly their "industry" was dissolved overnight. They're not exactly likely to just shrug, and go out and get jobs... So, what will they be doing? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  2. Jokes work better when you first give them a chance to be appreciated without including an explanation. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  3. Did you see the movie called Charlie Wilsons War??? Think the preachers daughter..... Like so many children raised in repressive evangelical christian households.... she reminds me of SEVERAL preachers kids I knew. I haven't seen it, but my dad recommended it highly and I will get it when the library gets it. She reminds you of "several" preachers' kids? How about "99% of preachers' kids"?! And yet, the preachers have never realized what their effect on their own kids has been, all this time. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  4. Wow, that is just how I feel! Next thing you know, you and I are gonna be kindred spirits, sort of like happened with me and Amazon. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  5. Sorry no, that is not what I meant. (sorry if my post was confusing) I do think though that because of his age he will only run one time. That sets her up to be the next Rep. canidate. Her conservative views will make her very popular. So, the left is taking her on now. You mean, she's going to get the same treatment Hillary got from the right? Hey, if Palin ends up being hypocritical enough, if her morals end up being questionable enough, she might end up having Obama trade Biden for her. All she needs to do is publicly counsel her daughter that an abortion is the only right choice. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  6. Hey, I was personally gladdened when she got named to run... now I'm pretty disgusted. The reason it becomes a viable discussion point? Republicans like to talk a lot about Christian morality, right? Waiting until marriage for sex, etc.? And here she has an underage daughter sneaking around making babies and she evidently failed to raise her own child with her values. What's that say about either her values or her daughter's obedience or how in-touch with her daughter she is, or how good a parent she is? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  7. Ridiculous. I'm anti-abortion, but pro-choice. I think abortions indicate a gross amount of irresponsibility, other than abortions to save the mother's life. But the key is, do we legislate the right to have an abortion or legislate the prohibition of same? We know what attempting to prohibit anything ends up doing: costing us a lot of money to fail to prevent what we are trying to prevent. It looks like in cases like these, those who will do whatever is prohibited regardless of its illegal status have us kind of cornered. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

  9. I've been accumulating "Pepsi Points" because I'm a Pepsi fiend and figured I'd better get something out of it besides empty calories. I'm up to 46. I think I can get a "vintage tee-shirt" with 60... (and I could swear they bumped that up from 50, but anyway.) Got any points? Have you redeemed them for stuff yet? What'd ya get?

    WTF?

Pan in the oven is fine, combustibles in the oven is NOT Pans have plastic handles a lot of the time... which when burned will give off toxic gases and smoke, right? (I'm no firefighter but I have heard of these things.) Bad news, right? Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  12. Heh, "check pint" -- maybe that is what they were lookin' for! That's bullshit. I don't know how big the SAK was, but such an ordinary pocket knife, when not being used in an aggressive manner, is NOT a "weapon". Do you walk into a kitchen and marvel at all the "weapons" that surround you? 8-inch knives, etc.? Yes, but perhaps he knew of how badly they can fuck with you when you have the audacity to assert your rights against unreasonable search. That is not easy when two cops have you standing there with visions of spending the night in jail dancing in your head... Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  13. I'm always "quite fond" of they way they represent air traffic control communications on t.v. shows and in movies, too... Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  14. "I U-turned to avoid what looked like a checkpoint" He did not get stopped "at" the checkpoint. He saw the checkpoint and for whatever reason did not want to go through it--which, I grant, is legal, although obviously it makes the cops suspicious that you are just the kind of driver they are trying to take off the roads so you don't kill someone because you're inebriated. 15. These are the people that some folks feel should be the only ones who have the right to own guns. I'm sorry you folks had these bad experiences with cops. I, myself, have never had other than relatively respectful treatment by them. I think that although a reason wasn't given to Rastaricanair for being pulled over, you stated it in your post: you turned around rather than go through a DUI checkpoint. That makes you look, to them, like you're under the influence and trying to not get nailed for it. I think it's shitty in the extreme that they were such assholes to you, and even worse that they stole your property after implying that a Swiss Army Knife was a big ol' nasty "weapon." (They'd love my waved Spyderco Endura, then!) I am sorry, I have no legal advice to offer you, except perhaps to go down to the local police station in that area and attempt to make a complaint. Also, don't drive around in a condition where you feel it's prudent to turn around to avoid a checkpoint--that makes you a marked man. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  16. I have the t.v. on "for company" at the moment, and this (what I consider stupid) show "Prison Break" is on. I've seen maybe one or two episodes before (and didn't think it was any good). I just had my initial impression of the show confirmed by the fact that when some dude was shown spying on someone with binoculars, the way they show us, the audience, what he's looking at, is through those "linked circles"--as though you see two siamese-twin circles when you look through binoculars! Why do they do that stupid thing?! And why don't the millions of fans of this show realize how ridiculously cheesy and horribly written/acted this show is?! WTF?

Wow, that's f'd up. I would say, "Call it a learning experience." Now you know that some people mistakenly think it's OK to store stuff in an oven, and so you have been exposed to it and know that it'll pay dividends to check in the future. The other benefit for you is that when you find stuff prior to heating the oven, you can ridicule and lambaste the person who left shit in there. I'm definitely with you, though: the oven is not a storage space. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

  19. A man after my own heart. Reminds me of the old Eddie Murphy routine where he was doing both sides of an argument with a hotheaded, angry black woman and her man. Brotha: So, uh, where you gonna be? Sista: I'll be where I'm AT! Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  20. I've always loved British accents, actually -- never had a preference for one over the other -- ever since I was a kid and my older brother exposed me to Monty Python's Flying Circus.

  23. When I waited tables, I was good friends with a waitress who showed me pictures of her with Robert DeNiro. She used to nanny for some of the kids in his family. I don't remember what the exact relation was, or how she came to know them. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  24. I know a guy whose son is Bryan Clay, the decathlete who won a silver medal in the decathlon in 2004 and just won the gold medal in the decathlon in the 2008 Olympics. Seriously, the dad's name is Gregory Clay, and up until two days before his son won Olympic gold, he worked in my office. But the company has cut staff, and even though his part-time position was cut, they offered him a different full-time position, but due to other employment obligations, he couldn't accept it. So in our office, we often have birthday cards and such circulate and get signed by everyone. I was so proud and happy for this man that I went out and bought a card for him and a card for his son, and had everyone (who wanted to) at work sign them, and my supervisor is getting them mailed. Bryan Clay seems like such a very down-to-earth, good guy. I can't think of a more unassuming, humble athlete I've seen. He even was on David Letterman's show! P.S. He is going to be on the Wheaties box! Starting in September, I think. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
  25. Can anyone help me understand why we have these military units like the "82nd Airborne," or the "507th Parachute Infantry Regiment"? Where on earth do those numbers come from? Were there 506 parachute infantry regiments before the current one, or something?? Is there a naming convention that they follow, and this is just part of it?
