Unless you are, or know, an electronic whiz - forget it. If it doesn't have an external jack for some type of remote you have to open the camera up and re-wire and circuit the switch. I don't know of a single cheap digital camera out there that has a remote jack. Your best bet is to go 35mm and pick up a Rebel package - they're cheap, fast, reliable, and the fact is, film is still way better resolution than even the best digital cameras. Canuck

anyone know anything about the Chute Shop 21cell Peregrine ?
Canuck replied to Jumpmunki's topic in Gear and Rigging
I know a guy that had one. It was exactly as Lisa suggested, an Excalibur copy, and I'm pretty sure they were indeed F-111. Chute Shop replaced it with the zero-p Reflex (elliptical 9 cell) in the early 90s. Canuck -
A dacron lined canopy wont actually open softer than a canopy lined with spectra or vectran, the force will just be absorbed by the lines more-so making it "feel" softer. It's not at all to the same extent, but the same idea as dynamic climbing rope. Canuck
-
No, the jumps do not need to be done consecutively in any of the disciplines. Canuck

An original Crossfire before my Velocity. As mentioned by a few people, I think it makes a great transition canopy to crossbraced due to it's diving characteristics and deep toggle stroke. Canuck
-
That makes sense, especially how it is placed between two spocks. Thanks, Canuck
-
Not very likely is it as simple as a "sit flip." The dive is as follows: 2-way with interactive camera - exit move, spock, monkey flip, spock, eagle, transition, dock, end move to be completed in 40 seconds. You don't have to do freefly, you have your choice of 2 of the following disciplines: FS, CRW, Freefly, Style, and Accuracy. Like I said though, they all require some bitchin skill. The CRW for example is 8 rotations in a 4 stack in two and a half minutes from exit on 5 jumps. Accuracy is less than 5 cm on 10 jumps. So, monkey flip anyone?? Canuck
-
Anybody heard of a Monkey Flp? Apparently it's a freefly move, but nobody knows what it is. Up here in Canada, for a D licesence you need to demonsrate some pretty bitchin skills in two disciplines. In the prescribed freefly 2-way routine they call for a Monkey Flip, but it seems that nobody, not even the people that wrote the requirement, know what it is!!!! Anyone??? Canuck

Best Wing Loading for a Velocity
Canuck replied to Velocity84's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I haven't been jumping my Velocity 96 for too long, but my impression is that you want to be somewhere in the 2 to 2.2 range for optimal distance. I'm at 2.1 and it seems just about perfect. As for the openings, they're not in the same category as my old Crossfire, but still completely acceptable for my Flat Top Pro 2 camera set-up. I would guess about 600 feet from pilot chute to canopy, where my Crossfire was more in the 800 to 1000 ft range. Canuck -
What should PD have named the sabre2
Canuck replied to TomSpoon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How about the Silhouette, Navigator, and Lightning? Canuck -
I have never owned a Sabre, but I have put a fair number of jumps on a 170, 150, and 135 in the past. All three of those canopies opened just fine, and at the time, I wasn't the nicest packer. The key is, they were all fairly new AND IN TRIM!!! I always laugh at people who have a thousand jumps on their Sabre line set and wonder why the canopy opens hard... I'm certainly not saying it's the only reason a Sabre (or any canopy) will open hard, but it is deffinately one reason. Canuck

Isn't it funny how in 10 feet you go from champ to chump, winner to weener, cool to tool. 10 feet to the left and we would all be going ooohh aaahhh, nice swoop - we might even forgive the overshoot into the spectator area. Swoop courses are so humbling. Canuck

While you're at it, ask Brian what he thinks about you jumpng a 120 with 85 jumps. And the question that begs to be answered, who the hell is the S&TA at Lodi!!?? You would think the dude who killed himself there jumping a Stiletto with less than a 100 jumps a few months ago might have clued them in. Canuck
-
Not that I'm totally hung up on profiles and jump numbers, but are you seriously jumping a Stiletto 120 @1.6 with 85 jumps? Canuck
-
Semantics I guess... I have most definately experienced un-initiated lift on Stilettos, even my Crossfire would sometimes do it after a 270. If we want to call that a positive recovery arc, I'm fine with that. However, there is not a person on the planet that will convince me that a Velocity, VX, Samurai, etc. will not eventually return to its original flight path, speed, and rate of descent after performing a speed augmenting manoeuver. The term negative implies less than zero, or less than the starting point. Canuck

The ease of packing I would say is a combo of South African zp and a few hundred jumps on the canopy. If I recall though, that thing was easy to pack right out of the bag. Good on you for not downsizing if you don't see the need. Try and get your hands on a Crossifre or Crossfire 2 also and see what you think. I still firmly believe they are the highest performing non-cross braced canopy on the market, and the nicest openers. How am I liking my Velocity? Awesome!!! I don't want to say it's an easy canopy to fly because that would be misleading, but it feels so connected to you it almost anticipates what you want to do. It takes 100 % focus though - you have to fly through the openings, be hyper aware of traffic, and keep the controls smooth. The speed and distance of the swoops are just friggin stupid!!! Canuck

Hey Roger, First of all, the Blade Runner isn't baffed. I put 300 jumps on it, Bernie might have put 50 on it, and you have put, I'm guessing, about 200 on it. Out of trim quite likely, but not baffed. Anyway, I haven't seen you jump for a while now, so I'll not pass any judgment on your landings or readiness to downsize (I just assume you are planning to downsize when you get a new canopy). Regarding recovery arc and the infamous negative recovery arc. I'm jumping a Velocity 96 now, loading at 2.1. I guarantee if a hook that sucker at two thousand feet, by the time I'm ready to flare, it's back to its regular level of descent. Negative recovery arc is a crock of shit - super friggin long recovery arc - oh yeah, but not negative. And you're right, having to bump the toggles takes away from the efficiency of flying the canopy through the arc. Demo lots of shit, be safe, don't get in over your head. Canuck

FALCON 265 CANOPY. What's it worth and who would use it?
Canuck replied to BravestDog's topic in Gear and Rigging
The Falcon is/was not marketed as a student canopy in the same way Mantas and Navigators are, but the fact that it is a nine cell, F-111, 265 sq. ft canopy kinda puts it in the same class. It would be fine as a student canopy, or as a transition canopy for a heavier jumper. As it is F-111, wingloading should not exceede 1 or 1.1 lbs/ft. Taking gear weight into consideration, a jumper weighing up to abouot 240lbs could likely jump it safely, providing the canopy is properly trimmed and that the nylon is not too porous. Have a rigger inspect it. Canuck -
First, nobody has commented on one of the best reasons to always wear a helmet - landings. Solo or 300 way, eventually you gotta land, and landings don't always go as planned. And I'm not talking about hookin' it in, I'm talking about stumbling and banging your head on a rock, ashphalt, etc. Second, helmets are cool now...you don't get any "lay me" points for jumping without one like 10 years ago. Wear a helmet. Canuck

It's at times like this I'm so damn proud. For those of you looking for a serious dose, I and 100 other Canadians will be in Eloy from January 9th to the 25th for the annual "Canadian Invasion." Let the madness begin!!! Canuck

Just so people don't get all confused, the new Precision reserve is called a r-max, not an a-max. The A-max is Aerodyne's swooper. Canuck

Oh shit - here we go on the Onyx again... Canuck

Um Sarge....You read the wrong dudes profile. Go back and look again. Cancuk

If you want a canopy that opens super slow totally consistently, and then flys like a bat out of hell once it's open - go Crossfire. I thought Stilettos opened soft until I started jumping my Crossfire. The other nice thing is that on the couple occasions I have managed to spin the Crossfire up, it has flown completely straight and level while I kicked out. I really believe you can't find a better performance canopy for camera. Canuck
-
I try to keep my neck perfectly alligned with my spine, eyes on the horizon. I don't look up/back until I feel the canopy is fully open. That also helps keep the openings on heading. Canuck
