Think you have that switched around Rob. Talon FS is American made (at least mine was, as were the other 20 or so on my DZ) and the Talon 3 is Australian made. Canuck

That would fit no problem. Quite a few V00s at my DZ with canopies as large as Stiletto 120s in them. I had a Crossfire 119 in a V0 and there was lots of room. I think Sandy sizes his rigs so they wont pack like bricks. Canuck

Maybe check with 2KComposites. I know on their order form they have listings up to 64 cm which is almost 26 inches. Canuck

This whole "no point in an AAD with a highly loaded reserve" argument doesn't really hold water. Even "senior" skydivers fuck up. I think you would find that far more Cypres saves have happened due to loss of altitude awareness than due to an incapacitated skydiver (i.e. knocked-out). Canuck

Actually, the original ZP was more what you might call a "first generation" canopy. The ZP EXE, in theory at least, would be an improvement on that. I had a Blade Runner made by the same company years ago and really thought that canopy out performed the Stiletto. They replaced the Blade Runner with the Hurricane the same time they replaced the ZP with the ZP EXE. Canuck

Ha! I saw that too (in the classifieds). What a crock - it's amazing what some people will say to try and sell their shit! To any potential buyers - do not buy this canopy unless you are qualified and capable of flying a 95 sq. ft canopy. Period. Canuck

The Heatwave is a fine canopy, definitely a step up in performance from the Hornet. The canopy itself is safe, as to whether or not you would be flying it, that's not something I can't answer. Canuck

More likely I'm confusing it. Thanks for clearing it up. Canuck

I always shudder when I hear about Paradactyl reserves. I've heard from a few people who have put lots of jumps on them as mains that they had about a 1 in 20 malfunction rate. Our pioneers had huge balls - even the girls! Canuck

I use Tiffen UV filters (I think they call it a haze filter). It's a lower end filter (depending on the size of the lens you can pick them up in the $20 range) but I've always been happy with the results. Canuck

Don't think so because better logos is one of the selling features of Jim Slaton's Icarus NZ project. Just think of it as fashionable - kinda like how you can't buy a pair of jeans these days that aren't already faded and frayed. Canuck

Fair enough - you would know better than I. Canuck

That's awesome then. As usual, no chance for a demo up here in the Great White North, so I'll have to take your word for it. Canuck

Nice pics. The guy featured is my good friend and team mate. He showed me the video of that landing when he got home from the WC. What's interesting is that it only earned him a yellow flag rather than a red and a dq. When you see the whole thing he really wasn't that steep and easily could have dug it out if he had bailed to the toggles earlier - I guess that's why they didn't dq him. But yeah - good thing for water! I'll have to let him know he's famous. he occasionally posts in here. Canuck

I don't think this canopy has much if anything to do with the Turbo Z. For starters, it's a fully elliptical canopy. Secondly, it has a Crossfire type semi-closed leading edge. The F111 bottom skin doesn't bother me so much as the fact that you can buy one that is 75 sq. ft or a tandem canopy. To me, a canopy that is suited to both ends can't be particularly strong at either. A bus is a bus, a sports car is a sports car. A sporty bus or a sports car with good hauling capacity? Ditto for the Cobalt and Cobalt tandem. Canuck

I think you need to be clear on what you are calling full face. From what I gather, you mean a helmet with a visor. Many refer to a helmet like the Flat Top Pro as a full face, even though it has no visor. There is nothing inherently inferior in terms of stability with a helmet that has a visor. The stability is a result of how well the helmet fits your mellon, and the type of closing/tightening mechanism. The problem with the Sidewinder is that the only tightening mechanism is a velcro strap that sort of squeezes the helmet tighter to your head. Ratchet chin-cups are better, fixed chin pieces with a rear entry mechanism are the best. My Flat Top Pro when buckled down doesn't slip around on my head one little bit. There is by the way at least one helmet out there that is rear entry with a visor, but they seem quite unpopular. Canuck

And I was just about to chime in with some smart ass comment about being able to put a Crossfire 3 in it.... I wonder if they will still offer the catapult reserve pc system? I hate the look of full pop-tops, but the other two look pretty decent. Too bad they couldn't have incorporated an "up" main flap though. Canuck

You can put a still on a Sidewinder (I've seen it), but you really don't want to. In a few hundred jumps when you're ready to start jumping camera, and then in a few hundred more when you're ready to add stills, you want something with at least a chin-cup, and prefferably something even better like a rear entry latch if you're gonna strap that much weight onto your noggin. I can't believe this is even a thread. I really doubt that there will ever be a Crossfire 3 released, nevermind one when the Crossfire 2 is still so popular. Talk about the rumor mill! It's pretty obvious why the Crossfire 2 came out such a short time after the original Crossfire, but to continue such a trend, at least in my opinion, would indicate a lack of R&D in the current model. Are you serious!!?? I'm still unsure about the safety issues of using hand-cams on tandems, but on AFF dives I think it's insane. I think there is a very high likelihood of loss/damage to the camera and/or student on a AFF gone wrong (i.e. inverted spin recovery). Even my hand mount altimeter occasionally pisses me off on PFF dives. Canuck

Your post is kinda weird, I think the first thing you need to do is learn a little more about canopy flight and understand that how you fly a canopy is at least as much responsible for how it will perform as is the design of it. From what I can understand though, I would suggest either a Stiletto or a Cobalt. Both would certainly be considered HP, both turn fast, have relatively short recovery arcs, and landed straight in without any speed augmenting manouver will not swoop too far. Canuck

Jonathan Tagle - distance record video
Canuck replied to Kolla's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Holy shit! There is something to be learned from that swoop. Look how early he transitions to the toggles and how much of the swoop distance is accomplished once in deep brakes. So many people stay on the rears until their canopy is bagged right out and then hit the toggles. So impressive! Canuck -
I have one, and there are a bunch of people at my DZ with them. Bottom line - awesome rig. The harness (same as the Voodoo) is the most comfortable harness on the market. The "reverse" leg straps are the best innovation to come out of Rigging Innovations. The pin protection is awesome. Somebody said they didn't like the riser protection. It's no different than a Jav. I'm not a real fan of secondary riser covers though - I think they lead to off heading openings. Don't be mislead by the name - this container is totaly freefly friendly - every bit as much as my Wings or my old Voodoo. The container is small and tidy with lots of attention to detail. It's the little things like how the cutaway and reserve handles are attached to the webbing that make all the difference. RI customer service kicks ass. I could go on... Canuck
