  1. I live in Corona and work in Pomona. Pomona is just up I-10 from Claremont. It would be quite a haul from Elsinore, 46 miles (I-15 and I-10 are both bad rush hour paths), or Perris, 43 miles (CA-60 and I-10 bad at rush hour). However, if you lived in Corona, like me, you'd be halfway between the two, You could take CA-71 (Lite high-speed traffic always) to the I-10 (you would be going the opposite direction of traffic) and your trip wouldn't be that bad. Corona is a smallish suburb with a even smaller feel. I'm not pro-Corona, I just moved from Phoenix and like a bigger city feel, but it has it's advantages. It's 45-60 minutes to Newport Beach, Dodgers' Stadium, DisneyLand, Angels Stadium, and Big Bear and Arrowhead Lakes. It's also only 1.5 hours to San Diego and 25 minutes from Perris and Elsinore. I hope this helps...
  2. Great video!!! It definitely shows the good, the bad, and the ugly of swooping. Great work Tim!!!
  3. The only thing I felt was awkward in regards to the vibe was there seemed to be a struggle with dominate/avoid being dominated going on. I only saw what was happening as an outsider, but I experienced some pushing and pulling that took away from my enjoyment of the event. I saw this type of thing happen at the DZ where I started jumping when what the DZO wanted in regards to the business changed. I'm not saying that is what's happening at Skydive Tallahassee, it's just something I noticed from a past experience. Had I not had that experience previously I may not have even noticed it.
  4. I've flown with my rig several times, but this weekend I got questioned and thoroughly searched on both ends of my flight. Leaving California, they saw the rig on the scanner and pulled me to the side. They searched me and then swabbed the zippers on my bag. When I was walking away the guy asked if I jumped at Elsinore... So he at least knew what it was. Leaving Tallahassee this morning however was completely different. They saw my rig on the scanner and immediately pulled me, my wife, and my 3yr old son aside and went through everything i had. The girl who opened my bag with my rig in it didn't even have a clue what it was, she just stood there looking at it dumbfounded. I kept a close eye on what she was doing while they finished wanding me. The guy standing with my rig said he needed to do a more detailed inspection, but he needed my help. He asked if it had a CO2 cartridge on it and I told him I didn't use an AAD and showed him the window where the control would be located if I had one installed. Next, he pulled the rig out and started looking at it. I explained to him where the main and reserve canopies were and showed him the closing pins, pilot chute, and reserve handle. After he took it back to the scanner and ran it through again he said I could leave. In response to your question, I was prepared to be as thorough on my explanations as necessary and I would have opened my main if asked. However, if they would have wanted to open my reserve I would definitely have had them get a supervisor present so we could discuss the issue. Worst case scenario, they don't let you on the plane.
  5. Skydive Tallahassee 10 Year Anniversary... Apparently, there is much people have to say about this event, so I might as well express my opinions. First, it was great to see everyone that I have met the last two years at Rantoul in there natural habitat. It's like seeing an alligator in a zoo versus running across one in a swamp, the behavior of all involved is strikingly different. (Marcus, Justin, Aubrey, Dave, Bill, Cindy, TomL, ChrisK, and Mickey just to name people off the top of my head) You all seem to have a very strong bond in spite of the recent disagreements, misunderstandings, or inappropriate behavior that occurred which had three of my four best friends from "The Other Quincy" not be able to be at the DZ for the party... I don't know what actually happened, but from what I've heard it is doesn't seem to be something which should have ended up the way it did...ANYWAY! Tyler and my wife, Rebecca, had a great time. It took us a little while to get Tyler to understand that you guys weren't just my friends, you were his friends... Thanks for showing him the time of his life!!! Tyler discovered the most important thing I get out of Boogie's, partying with new found friends and the excitement of seeing them again in the future... (Glenn, Kevin, Rob (after we got past the issues of Friday night
  6. 14 years ago today... I was three month away from getting my EE degree thinking what could be finer...Then came the Gulf War and the biggest hi-tech layoffs in recent memory, oh wait, then there was 9/11... Although I've always had work, it hasn't been the joy ride I perceived... But skydiving has sure made a difference!!!
  7. Your saving one of those for MOAB, right???
  8. Pretty cool idea... First let me say I'm a super-techie that has been at Rantoul the last three years, yet I haven't been by the DZ.COM tent. I've also been to the DZ.COM boogie the last two years, but I generally end up hanging out with my ALREADY FRIENDS friends... That said, VanillaSkyGirl is a person I notice wherever she happens to be. I'm not a stalker or anything, but she's quite nice to look at. DiverDriver seems to speak from wanting everyone to have a better time skydiving, or flying. He doesn't seem to get caught up in trying to put meaning to things, just states the facts, quite impartially. SKyMama we've never met but I almost died the firat time I jumped the rig you sold my buddy Kenny (search my posts), you remember the pink and navy Infinity with the Hornet 190...Not your fault at all but I won't forget your name. I'm sure there are many more, but I'll stop for now.
  9. Scotty and Tammy... You guys just get there. I'm leaving sunny socal to hang out with all my friends from Rantoul...Rain or shine!!! As a matter of fact my rig is still with my rigger getting a repack and I told my wife I was coming even if he didn't get it finished. But he'll get it finished he's the best. How many riggers pick your gear up from your house and drop it back off. Now That's Incredible!!!
  10. I got a call last night saying there was talk about closing the airport in Talahassee on Thursday, but I'm coming in on friday afternoon and everything looks good... Didn't keep me from dreaming of being stuck in an airport for two days though! What a nightmare!!! Checked the weather this morning and everything looks great! Slight chance of scattered thunderstorms on friday, partly cloudy saturday and Sunday... Where I'm from that means great weather ahead, what does that mean to you guys out there? edited to add: ------------------------ I'm coming regardless! I'll just hangout and drink for three days...if nothing else.
  11. Wing loading is not the everything measure that some tend to preach by, not talking about anyone specific. However it is one of the measures to be aware of, as is canopy shape. Higher wing loading generally calculates to quicker canopy response. As you mentioned, you don't turn low, but the higher the wingloading the greater the response to a given control input. So when you make an avoidance turn under a
  12. I'm not a anvil I'm a freeflier that prefers belly-to-earth... And I'll be at MOAB! How about a fastest belly flier competition... Average on my belly 160!!!
  13. I took my son, who will be three this week into the windtunnel at Perris a month or so ago... Try that out...The image of skydiving will look much better with the wind blowing by...I've even got a small backpack that matches my rig. He wears it at the DZ. And everytime we fly somewhere he asks if he can jump out this time...
  14. That's my limited experience with the Sabre2 and Stiletto. At least a 90 degree change of direction is highly probable with these canopies. The Nitro 135 I'm jumping has turned about 45 degrees once. The rest of the jumps have been on heading every time. The TurboZX 165 I was jumping previously never opened off heading.
  15. And then there's the time we were playing Drink Uno. For every card you had to draw you had to take a shot of JD. That night I crashed at my friends house... About 4am I wake up to him yelling "Dude what are you doing!" I opened my eyes and I'm standing in the corner of his room pissing on a pile of dirty clothes... My friend just rolled over and went back to sleep.
  16. Oh wait I got another one... I dropped my friend off after a hard nights drinking and headed home about 2am. I'm driving along a suddenly KA-THUMP!!! I look around and there are no other cars around, but I notice I have a flat tire... I pull off the highway, into a parking lot, to change the tire. I take off the flat tire, I destroyed the rim, and I the spare won't come down from the back. I climb under the car to see what the problem is and pass out. I wake up at 5am completely freakin' out to realize I was in a parking lot on main street... Good thing a friendly officer didn't stop to help me...
  17. I've got a number of them, but one of the funniest was... I was skiing in Sante Fe with my cousin. We ended up in a bar with these two chicks all of us getting quite drunk. I come back from the bar with a drink for the girl I was with and she asks me to take her and my cousin to her house (I could sleep on the couch) I said "F@#$ that!" and took off for Albuquerque. After driving for quite some time (did I say I was pretty drunk) I started looking around and couldn't see the lights from Albuquerque. I started wondering if I had taken the wrong way out of Sante Fe I decided to keep driving until I see a road sign. The next sign I see says "Socorro......10 Miles" For those not familiar with NM, I drove from Sante Fe through Albuquerque, Belen, and Los Lunas without even realizing it. Anyway, I turned around and got home to Albuquerque about 4am. Well guess who calls at 8am needing a ride from Sante Fe...
  18. James told me you were hijacked and had to run...I just wanted to give you shit... Talked to Cindy Saturday, she said you haven't trimmed the Mohawk yet...What is your Rodriguez Bros name "Mofeta"??? See you in about a week and a half...
  19. Currently: 4000 ft 3000 ft 1500 ft On my ProDytter and ProTrack. However, I have been thinking about: 4500 ft ProDytter 4000 ft ProTrack 3500 ft ProDytter 3000 ft ProTrack 1500 ft ProDytter/ProTrack
  20. I think the difference between the Turbo Z and the ZX is the hybrid construction. Maybe they tapered the trailing edge also...
  21. I went ahead a posted the PM I sent you here to give others a chance to comment on my perceptions and since SunDevil and my observations don't match.
  22. Those sound like my toggles..the folded part is pretty hard to get in. I jumped a safire 149 at Rantoul and I thought Wyatt said it had the new Infinity toggles on it. The used a straight closing type pin for the lower keeper... Did I misunderstand?
