  1. This is more excessive than most skydivers I know. Maybe he has money to burn. Oh well...it is what it is. End of thread... You get to open a thread - you don't get to close it! Are you singling him out vs, say, Jeb Corliss, Luigi Cani or Brian Germain? All of them are very accomplished at self-promotion because they are their own brands. BTW- what is the background to calling him "Lord" Slaton? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  2. It is perfectly reasonable to land on rears alone and it is one of the skills that some coaches recommend for getting to know all about your canopy. It's not a mandatory skill, but what would YOU do if a toggle came off at 600' AGL? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  3. *ding* So what....that wasn't a relevant detail in the post? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  4. IMO it's much more to do with the pilot than the canopy. I get some off-heading openings, but have had line twists only once on my KAs. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  5. How is that going to help avoid bag-locks? They still have locking stows. My understanding was that freebags were to reduce the risk of horseshoes, not baglocks. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  6. How local is local? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  7. I am also slightly amused by you the fact that you started this thread the way you did just over a year ago!! http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4144847; "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  8. I am absolutely incredulous at this post for a number of reasons: 1. You are threatening, immature and totally undermining your credibility before you start. 2. You offer no evidence, or even explanation, for your assertion that 180s are dangerous (other than the mistaken "blind spot" line that people trot out - see #3) 3. 180s do not have to be a blind whip into unknown airspace (indeed they should not be). The modern technique is a diving carve and anyone who can turn their head can see where they are going before they start the turn. 4. Finally, you do all the above while disagreeing with a pro-swooper and professional canopy coach in a public forum. Bad manners, bad skills and bad attitude. It is a sign of Ian's calmness and professionalism that he has allowed your post to stand and be discussed instead of deleting it for the PA it quite clearly was. *I suppose that I should add that #3 above does not mean I agree that it's OK to do 180s or any HP turn in traffic. 10. Thanks Dave. I talked to a lot of pro swoopers this weekend and they were all talking about using the smoothest control inputs possible to achieve the goal. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  11. What about these: Ligaments of the AC joint: Capsular; superior and inferior acromioclavicular; articular disk; coracoclavicular (trapezoid and conoid) Ligaments of the Sternoclavicular joint: Capsular; anterior and posterior sternoclavicular; inter- and costo- clavicular; articular disk Ligaments of the GH joint: Capsular; coracohumeral; glenohumeral; transverse humeral; glenoid of humerus Are they just for decoration? 12. The pilot can have a significant effect on oversteer. Those who lean into the turn will experience it to a greater extent than those who lean to the outside of the turn. This is due to the harness input (intentional or not) that they are applying. Of course, some canopies are more sensitive to harness input than others and it will also vary with wing-loading. Harness input is the best way to counter the effects of oversteer as it allows you to maximize the power of the turn while still keeping a clean airfoil. "The ground does not care who you are. 15. So that's what this is really about. Your PTSD. Seek help or harden the fuck up. But don't come on here telling people to leave their mates to die. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  16. It's not a fucking game. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  17. I sincerely hope you are not saying "don't bother trying to save them". Which is worse? - Trying to save someone who is not saveable because you read something on the internet - Not trying to save someone who is because you make the judgement that they are dead. My view: always keep trying until the coroner pushes you out of the way. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  18. Around the palm of the hand so that all the fingers can grip it. Sorry I don't have a pic available. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
