This is close: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5LYaiMlRcw Avoiding the tail is easy. Flying right out the door is not a good way to do it. Be careful out there. But what do I know?

Good post. I describe my PF Tracking suit as a wingsuit without any wings. Properly flown, it performs like a beginner wingsuit, and offers a lot of things to learn, besides being a lot of fun. They only require 50 jumps so are perfect for an aspiring bird without enough jumps. Great preparation for anybody, for that matter. Getting good in a tracking suit is the best way to be ready for wings, I think. But what do I know?

I have quite a bit of experience at landing off, and agree with you to a point. Deciding early and selecting a good alternate are good for making that happen, but don't get complacent. Sometimes a place looks a lot better from 500 than it does at 50, and even a small gopher hole or something can hurt you. Get home itus is worse, but approach every off landing with caution, and avoid them whenever possible. Carry a cell phone too. But what do I know?

Wow. A negative mocking post from Yuri. What a surprise. But what do I know?

Don't bother trying to help someone in California
fasted3 replied to Iago's topic in Speakers Corner
If the car is on fire, odds are that nobody is getting anybody out. I agree that not every crash ends in fire, but the ones that do can be bad news. Is a ruptured (full) gas tank enough reason to move someone? EMT's? But what do I know? -
Every cloud has a silver lining: After losing his case in court, Pearson lost his job as a judge in the District when a supervising panel said his lawsuit showed bad judgment and reflected poorly on the city. But what do I know?

Don't bother trying to help someone in California
fasted3 replied to Iago's topic in Speakers Corner
I was first at a wreck where the gas tank had ruptured and there was gas everywhere. No fire or smoke, but steam and hot metal popping. The people asked me to get them out of there and I did. It was a tough call, but I figured if it was me I'd want to be out of there. Feel free to second guess this one. In a related story, did you hear about the guy some fishermen rescued after his boat sank? He sued them for losing his glasses... But what do I know? -
Have all the riggers started complaining yet?
fasted3 replied to SimpleJack's topic in Gear and Rigging
If my reserve doesn't work I'm not going to sue my rigger. I do plan on aiming for his car though. I don't complain about what repacks cost. It didn't seem like a big expense before, and will come around less often now. I will want a very thorough inspection and the security that comes from well maintained equipment. It costs what the rigger says it costs. If I cared about money I wouldn't skydive. But what do I know? -
I was mostly thinking about freefall just like you, (I think.) Busted my ass just like you. It hurts, huh? I was determined to never hurt myself again, and I haven't. You can do it too, if you want to. My landings are mostly pretty good now, but if they are not I rely on my Jedi skills at PLF, which I finely honed on 100 bad landings. If you concentrate on not getting hurt, (think falling off a skateboard,) you can make a really ugly landing and walk away from it. Just call those good landings and you have it made. But what do I know?

You make a good case against the policy. My point about individual cases was not what you think. One: As has already been mentioned, if the only goal is to obtain a signed confession, it works. Most people will sign anything. Ask McCain. Notice I am not saying the signature is worth anything, but if somebody wants it bad enough, they will most likely get it. Two: Somebody has something and won't tell you where it is. You can go see if they tell the truth. And keep coming back if they lie. Depends what it is, but a lot would give it up. These are just a couple of examples of where the average person would expect torture to be effective. You can pick at them if you want, but my point is that examples can be found. This leads to the thought that under sufficient provocation, to 'save the world,' it may be an option. Sure, ineffective as a policy, but 'just this once.' The best defense against this is to base your argument taking this thinking into account. Just saying 'it never works,' goes against common sense. Saying it's morally wrong, otoh, leaves little room for argument. But what do I know?
-
You didn't answer the question. 10,000 examples of it not working do not prove that it never has. I am pointing this out to establish the problem with saying it never works. The people that are arguing with you are using a different definition and each side keeps repeating: 1 never works, (policy) wrong 2 sometimes works, (individual case) and on and on. Therin also lies the belief that it just may be useful in the right circumstances, as shown by some posts. They are thinking of an individual case, I think, while others are looking at the big picture. I take the position that it is morally wrong whether it works or not. Simple. But what do I know?

If he hadn't ducked, either shoe was thrown with sufficent force to hurt plenty. Good move Bush. Not denying the insult, but it looks like he meant to hurt him too. But what do I know?

Can you provide any instances where torture has been effective and reliable at gaining intelligence? Come on people. Do you need to read it in a book that torture has ever in the history of mankind been used to extract useful information? Yes, it may be unreliable, and is morally reprehensable, but I don't doubt that it has been effective at times. Ask the Mafia; ask the NAZIs; what about the CIA? They won't tell you, but what do you think? There are plenty of reasons to condemn torture, but saying it has never worked is unrealistic. I am against it because it is not worth it, among other reasons. But what do I know?

I agree with your post, and that you can't beat the service. My SM1 seems fast to me, especially since I can't even max it out yet. I'd say I'm going as fast as I could in any other suit so far, and I could max them. Just my guess - take it for what it's worth. Anyway, like everybody says, it's the indian, not the arrow. Ask me again in one or two hundred jumps. Here are some vids you can compare the SM1 with a Raptor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIH8x9nor1k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpmiRmqV968 Taken at Elsinore and Eloy last month. But what do I know?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE First talk to a QUALIFIED roller-bungee-shark-fucking instructor! But what do I know?

Yes, the V3 looks so beautiful I want one too... But if I could afford another suit I'd get a Raptor. Not that I'd give up the SM1. It is a handful, but what fun! 2:57 and a 5 mile flight this weekend. I still wobble around some, so 3 minutes is possible for sure. Maybe I'll get good enough in this one to stop missing the Raptor, but so far I find it less stable, more tiring, and less agile. I want both, and a Vampire too. One other thing: I wouldn't lend my SM1 to people that could easily fly the Raptor, so it's harder to swap out with friends now. But what do I know?
-
Please don't feel like you have to do that just cause somebody on the internet was mean to you. Here is my opinion: Bigger suits can be a lot tougher to fly, at least for me. I did 100 on an Intro, then moved to a Raptor. That was a good time for me, while you could do it sooner. I could back fly and do flips and rolls pretty well, and get out of the tumbles that learning those things sometimes caused. By getting that stuff down, it made the transition easier. After 125 on that I went with a SM1, and found that I had a real challange on my hands. I've got 35 or so on it, and it's still a question of me flying it or it flying me. I will get it no doubt, but have made it harder on myself than i could have. The smaller suits are easier to get out of trouble with, and you should be very good at that before moving up. They are also a lot of fun; a bit less hang time maybe, but a lot more agility too. Don't think you need the biggest or hottest suit available to be a wingsuit pilot. Take your time and enjoy the ride. But what do I know?

Yea, glad I don't have to fight with those damn sharks any more... And yes, I will be taking advantage of the good weather we have been promised tomorrow. Gotta love it here in the winter. Seeya there. On topic: I don't wear any watch; no tattoos or jewelry. Old school I guess. But what do I know?

Hmmm, more stories or just more unbelievable ones? Either way I gotta call you on this one. I don't even believe my own stories any more, but I have a bunch of them. But what do I know?

Wingsuit exit. Lots of tracking. While tracking: barrel rolls, right and left, front flip (loop,) back flip, turns and tumbles, fly with others. Pull time: bird pull. Work on heading awareness and control at all times. Using a tracking suit is great training and only requires 50 jumps. Have fun But what do I know?

I think a slot perfect formation would not have to fit into a grid pattern as long as everybody was in the right place. Look at big formations of birds - their V will ripple with the wind, but they stay slot perfect. We should allow for this in our definition of the record or perfect flock. One pic of the 71 formation that I've seen would meet the criteria on one side, IMO, even though it was well off the grid. In any case, seeing the magnificent sight of so many flying so well, a record was achieved anyway. We may want to move the goal posts as we progress, but what a huge step forward our discipline has taken. Well done to all involved! But what do I know?
