If you don't think there's any correlation between borrowing and repayment, then how about you assume the debt and not repay it, rather than all of us assuming the debt and not paying it? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

A quick scan of foxnews website shows no mention on the front page that we put boots on the ground in Somalia yesterday to recover the corpose of an al qaeda terrorist we'd just killed. The Somali government has confirmed the kill and stated that they welcomed the attack. My guess is it would be the top story if it had been Bush who signed the execute order rather than Obama. Hey, those guys are biased, too, so it's ok? That's kind of weird reasoning, isn't it? I don't think ACORN ought to be getting tax dollars. I don't think the US should be involved in invasions of foreign territory. Am I supposed to view two different biases, neither of which I agree with, as a good thing? I don't know enough about ACORN to have an opinion...hell, I don't even know what they do (or purport to do). I'm cool with precision strikes on terrorists who've attacked us. Americans Buy Over One Million Guns In August
livendive replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
No matter who I voted for, it was going to be someone with whom I disagreed on multiple issues. Guns are just one of those issues, and in this election, I didn't consider them the most important. My hunch is that he won't affect my ability to buy firearms much, if any at all. However, I've also been hedging my bet by shopping and by getting my CPL, just in case I'm wrong. I haven't yet decided what to buy next. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

Americans Buy Over One Million Guns In August
livendive replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
I've purchased two guns this year, an LMT Defender 2000 (evil black assault rifle), and an XD-40 sub-compact (evil concealed carry pistol, and got the permit to match). Of course, these purchases didn't turn me into a "new pro-gun voter", much less two of them. I voted for Obama and don't expect to become a single-issue voter anytime soon. Failed attempts are usually due to poor decisions, but sometimes due to simple bad luck. If poor decisions don't have negative consequences, there's less motivation to make good decisions. What I think is at the heart of your point is a contention that those negative consequences shouldn't include a loss of affordable healthcare. I'm not sure whether I agree or disagree. On the one hand, I'd like to think a nation as prosperous as our's should have a demonstrably better healthcare system than others, and I do feel a "moral" compulsion to care for our weakest members. On the other hand, I don't think the people who have generally made good decisions should be forced to share their just rewards with those who haven't. It's a tricky issue, and one I'm glad I'm not in charge of resolving. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

All morality derives from the same source and mostly serves self-interest and propogation of the species. However morality is shaped, enhanced, and distorted by a wide variety of cultural views, and most successfully by those with a religous slant, as they carry the biggest stick. BREAKING NEWS: Reasonable people do NOT respect Obama
livendive replied to SkyChimp's topic in Speakers Corner
Foxnews.com currently has an article on its front page about Obama supposedly calling Kanye West a "jackass". By comparison, CNN.com is reporting something that's perhaps a bit more relevent to this thread. How violently do you think the Limbaugh/Beck/Savage types will flip-flop? What he said. I'm currently annoyed by the fact that once again my government has decided I should pay more taxes (or be credited/refunded less) solely because my girlfriend and I haven't tied the knot. Funny - when I got married in 2008 we ended up owing about $4k MORE than when we were single. I suppose it depends on the individual vs. collective situation. In my opinion, it shouldn't make a difference either way. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

No answer from you then. Noted My post addressed the topic of this thread, which is Joe Wilson calling Obama a liar during a joint session. It appears that Joe's claim was false. That's not to say Obama has never lied, but that he was not lying by making the statement in question. Blues, Dave No, Wilsons claim is true. If he was lieing why would the house and senate defete bills aimed only at excluding those being talked about. And until Obama pukes up some detail HE cant make the claim that he is not offering them as much Please try to follow along. Obama said that his reforms will not give insurance to illegal aliens. The fact of the matter is that his reforms will not give insurance to illegal aliens. In other words, he was telling the truth, and whether or not illegal aliens get insurance from other sources doesn't change that. Do you have a passage from the proposal that supports your claim & counters the text previously provided several times in this thread? Please note that I'm not asking for your deductions, beliefs, or sound-bites you heard on the radio, I'm asking for an actual proposal that supports your claim. The other side has provided as much and you have not. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I'm currently annoyed by the fact that once again my government has decided I should pay more taxes (or be credited/refunded less) solely because my girlfriend and I haven't tied the knot. In my opinion, legally and/or religously partnered individuals should enjoy no more or less benefits than single citizens. I am happy that at least I have the option to marry the person I love and take advantage of the government subsidies, whereas homosexuals do not, but I still think the best solution would be for the government to simply turn a blind eye to the institution and treat every individual as a unique entity. Yep. That's the truth. Not the whole truth. But the truth. No, the plans have zero intentions of insuring illegal immigrants. Insurance is the wrong word. They plan on sending them to a separate "indemnity" plan outside of this system. Edited to add: AND - it means that those who claim that the new plan will insure illegals is false, too. No insurance but a governement run health program, like a medicare? Got to admit they are good trying to hide the devil in detail. Cant come out and say anything straight forward He was talking about his reforms, and what they will and will not do. The will not cover illegal immigrants. Whatever other coverage illegal immigrants might have access to is not part of his reform, and thus not particularly relevent in his speech. You could make the argument that his reform SHOULD exclude illegals from receiving any care, but you'd have a much tougher row to hoe. If he wants to get something done, he's better off leaving that bit of controversy well enough alone. Blues, Dave Then give me some detail? All the hell he does is demonize companies and people to invoke anger and then say we got to do something fast!!! Why? There is simple reform that would make a big difference almost right away but no, we got to have government control ! Bullshit Tort reform and open up the states borders and eliminate state required coverages. There are aprox 1700 insurance comanies in this country. You know how many you can pick from in CA??? 6!!!! Plus that that state has the most mandates. Sorry dude. Gov control is not the answer Right or wrong, none of that makes what Obama said a lie, or what Joe Wilson said the truth. Given the diverse group of skydivers (and people who once were or would like to become such) that frequent this forum, I thought there might be someone who knows more than I about this stuff. I'm in the process of buying a house, and trying to not get screwed in the process. My broker (a local credit union) is looking to get 1% origination fee (the max allowed on an FHA loan) plus around a 1.1% YSP. I'm not opposed to them making some money for the service they're providing, but want it to be a reasonable amount...and I'm not sure what that is. I'm talking to the LO about having her divert some of that YSP toward my remaining closing costs (seller paying most), with any remaining funds applied to my principal (not my down). She's asked exactly how much of the YSP I want, but hasn't yet given me an opportunity to answer, while she checks into the limits & allowances imposed on an FHA loan. So, what's reasonable? If they make 1% origination, plus 0.5% on a YSP, are both parties getting a fair shake? If it matters, the rate they're offering is 5.375% on a 30-year fixed. What is sounds like you just said is, “There are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally," is a truthful statement. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

That looks like a very Dave-friendly kitchen and a very guest-friendly back patio. Congrats - hope it all works out! Actually, most of my cooking these days is on the back patio, while Muttley does most of the cooking in the kitchen (she's better at it). The purchase agreement has been signed, escrow opened, and the home inspection is next week. Closing is scheduled for Oct. 13. Wahoo!
