So...your profile is just out of date, right? Cuz I don't remember anyone with eleven jumps and a Navigator going up in the helicopter. Edit: as for the thread,

partisanship & the demographics of Speakers Corner

Perhaps the uncontrolled spending by the last administration made it tough for them to pick out. But really, there isn't much of a line left between the two parties, just a bunch of talking (yelling) points. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

Basically what she said. It seems pretty even in here to me, and I consider myself a Libertarian. When picking the lesser of two evils, I find the (D) alternative preferable to the (R) alternative maybe 60-65% of the time. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

Yes there is every need. He is a thug and needs to be sacked. He lost control and kicked that guy in the head for fucks sake - that's not the kind of person I want taking my tax money. Literally? Alright, specifically what should be the punishment for this? He should be fired and face the same criminal charges I would in such a case, plus an additional charge for having done this while under the color of law. CDNDIF WTC 1 (1993) Saudi bombing (1995) Khobar Towers (1996) US embassy bombings (1998) USS Cole (2000) And which of those occurred on our home turf? I'm pretty sure you're not going to argue that the US has not been a target of terrorist attacks abroad since 2001, so yeah, WTC 1993 and WTC 2001 are a bit different than the others. Blues, Dave US Embassies are sovereign soil. They are "home turf". You mean like the one in Yemen? We could. For some reason though, people seem opposed to calling that "terrorism"...presumably because the attackers weren't brown or muslim. And if we are going to include Oklahoma City, why wouldn't we also include Columbine? I'm not sure where that line would get drawn or why. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" If the charities privately gave the cars to Welfare Recipients Mary, Linda, and Bob, do you think all three would take advantage of the opportunity to go to work? And use a sizeable portion of their limited income to maintain insurance? This seems to me to be a way to target needy recipients in a manner that effects positive change. My favorite part of this whole fuss is her recent comment about encouraging "opposite marriage"... I think she should have a fling with Miss South Carolina. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

So the point remains. How far should it go? Just as well but them the dam car, give them a house or make the mortgage payments and get them goceries the the one crying lady stated on network news the night Obama was elected. Context and perspective and this is just another little step toward less for those who chose to work..... We're talking about welfare recipients, i.e. these are people who are already getting their housing and groceries paid for by the state, and this program helps them go out and earn the money for those things rather than simply having it handed over. And the money they get for those things is reduced when they participate in this program. So what's the problem...a program that nearly pays for itself and encourages people to go to work instead of sit at home and collect welfare? Personally, that sounds like a good thing. The tax code could be simplified by just removing all those marriage references. The government shouldn't care whether you participate in a religous institution. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

It sounds like a decent program to me. The cars are donated, are not given to those who have access to public transportation, and the fringe benefits that come with them end if the people end up back on welfare. It seems like a low cost way of trying to help people get off the state's payroll. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I don't think the government should have any more say over who gets married than it does over who gets baptized. However it *should* make laws that protect children (and animals) from predatory adults. Realistically though, I realize the government is not going to get themselves out of marriage (or anything else they get themselves into), so I'd be ok with a federal law that better defined marriage in terms of contract law, such that those parties who cannot legally enter into a contract (e.g. minors and animals) cannot legally enter into a marriage. Barring that, do we really need to assume that marriage includes sex? The problem with allowing blood relatives or minors to marry mostly relates to them having sex more than it does exchanging rings, right? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Yes, we all know that you won't answer a direct question - that is very clear. I answered it several times - the fact that you and jakee didn't like the answer does not make it invalid. Sorry to bust your bubble. You didn't answer his question, you answered some other question that wasn't asked. His question required nothing more than a simple yes or no, something you're obviously unwilling to give. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I like the utility of a PC and don't want to pay a huge price just to become a fan-boy, but at the same time some of the Mac stuff is kinda cool and I like that it's not nearly as targeted by virii. Having "upgraded" to Vista in the fall, I gotta say that I do not like this OS...it's the least stable system I've worked with in my life (that I couldn't blame on dying hardware). My computer goes into a network lock 3-4 times a week and completely crashes at least once or twice. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I'll admit to really liking The Notebook. Also, The Sweetest Thing mentioned below, though I'm not sure it qualifies as a chick flick. Also, Closer, Driving Miss Daisy, and When Harry Met Sally. Also some recent movie that ended with a guy at a carnival or something, driving cross country doing some treasure hunt contrived by the chick he was doing...I don't remember anything more than that, just that it was a chick flick and I liked it. *Edit: Oh, and the Robin Williams movies, e.g. Dead Poet's Society, What Dreams May Come, Good Will Hunting, etc* "Hybrid" movies I like (part guy movie, part chick flick) include For Love of the Game and Jerry McGuire. And no, I won't surrender my man card. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
