  1. would likely result in carpal tunnel syndrome. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  2. What kind of time-frame are you asking about? I'm not sure we're "meant" to survive, but suspect we will, at least in the short term. But long term? Of course not (short and long being intentionally ambiguous) Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  3. And we are not animals? if we are not animals then what are we? Human beings. Didn't you get the memo? Most humans are animals. Sure, we have our share of vegetables, but I don't recall ever meeting a mineral. I dunno ... I've met a few that are golden. /Marg Nice. I was expecting someone to tell me how they once met Oliver Stone. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

  5. i don't know your view but yes it is. As I see it there are to basic "starting points" depending on your stance. 1) Humans are at the top of the evolutionary chain, or 2) God made humans "special" Why must one begin at either of those starting points? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  6. Not even a little bit. a) humans ARE animals b) many humans are less worthy of protection than most animals of other species c) some animals of other species are more important to me than most humans Given a choice between protecting a human versus some other animal, I'd generally side with the human, but the exceptions are far too many to list. 7. Enlisted, hated most of it, but am probably better for the experience. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  8. Was Kent a Kapowsin jumper? His picture looks somewhat familiar, but it's been so long since I've been over there, I can't be sure. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2010618691_mundellobit29m.html Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  9. Well, since you (among others) have claimed a number of times previously that the various ban proposals select weapons to be outlawed based on "scary" looks and not on functionality, the only logical conclusion is that these weapons only differ from acceptable guns on looks and not on functionality, and therefore that people who buy such guns do so on account of the "scary" looks and not on functionality. I bought an AR this year, not because it was "scary looking", but because it was fun to shoot. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  10. I think I've landed out 3 times at Lodi...once on a wide dirt road, once on a somwhat narrower "road" (e.g. 4-wheeler path), and once in the vines (crosswind at that). It can be intimidating, but isn't too bad if you calmly do what needs to be done. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  11. BULLSHIT! - where exactly should we be having this discussion? Maybe info like this should be posted VERY publicly. It might actually inspire the plaintiff or the lawyers to go after the right people. What is it we're trying to prevent, bogus lawsuits or the fatalities that spawn them? Assuming the latter, very public discussion such as this one could be an effective part of achieving that goal. A whisper campaign would be significantly less likely to help. 12. "Alleged" defendant? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  13. Charles Schulz: Dead. Tens of thousands of potentially affected American troops: Not yet dead. I think the latter are more deserving of my attention than the former. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  14. From http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2010393433_webarrest01m.html Doesn't sound on the surface like a particularly clean kill to me. Blues, Dave Read that story again. The suspect was approaching the vehicle from behind so if the officer told him to stop and he started running counter clockwise around the cop he was moving towards the stolen vehicle. If you're told not to move by an officer because you are suspected of killing police and start making a break towards a stolen vehicle you have some bad intentions. He brought the death on himself. It kills me how people can'nt understand the concept of do what the hell a police officer asks of you and you won't end up like this guy. He was a suspect, and it's not clear he did anything threatening, that's what I meant by it not appearing to be a clean kill. In this case, on the basis of the older gunshot wound, I think they probably got the right guy, i.e. Clemmons was actually the shooter in Lakewood AND this was actually Clemmons. It was entirely possible though, that this could have just been some random guy or maybe someone only guilty of being a car thief, in which case shooting him dead for doing nothing other than running would have been unjustified. I'm not bent out of shape over the killing, I just wish it had been a cut & dry defensive shooting by the officer rather than him looking a little like judge, jury, and executioner. 16. Hopefully they got the right guy. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  17. Hopefully the officer(s) had a camera running so they can squash any argument of that sort. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  18. Have you noticed that you are one of the most profoundly classist posters in this forum? But at least you can blame it on everyone else, "because it's such a classist nation." Blues, Dave Yea you're right, everyone has the same opportunity here as the next guy W/o researching, I would say the distribution of wealth is about the same here as in some Communist countries. What does that have to do with you blaming the country for your classist attitude? And as I just posted, I think the opportunities here are fine for those who want to take them. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  19. Most of my childhood was spent on welfare with my single mother. I was at various points neglected and physically and sexually abused. I entered adulthood as a scofflaw high school dropout. I later earned my GED, then an AA, then a BS, and today own a small business, a nice house, and make more in a day and a half than my mother and I survived on each month in the early 80s. I had the option of maintaining the status quo, but chose not to. I think the opportunities available to us are fine, and anyone who chooses to not avail themself of those opportunities has primarily themself to blame. 20. It's sad that four people were murdered, all the more so because the only reason seems to have been what they were wearing. Can you imagine how different the outcry and this thread would be if the offending accessories had been turbans instead of badges? That's pretty sad too. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  21. Too bad the same can't be said for those that spew hate toward Christians. That doesn't really make any sense. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

  23. But enough about Al Gore and the AGW pseudo-scientists. With what qualifications do you discredit all pro-AGW findings? This is what I was talking about with my first post in this thread. The most adamant opponents and proponents are usually regular joe's who dabble first and foremost in politics, not environmental science. If you look through these types of threads, you can usually pick out those posters who are more aware of scientific methods, if on no other basis than their relatively frugal use of capital letters. Personally, I think there are valid questions to be answered, and that findings either way should be considered with a critical but open mind. And if we get to a point where reasonable, knowledgeable minds disagree, we should take action only on the basis of a substantially validated risk assessment that considers environmental and economic impacts. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  24. Do you honestly believe that crap about businesses protecting the environment because that's what the public wants? If that were true, why has my industry (environmental remediation) been booming for decades? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  25. Are you suggesting that they don't know if there is a problem? Hasn't been their position so far. Who is this "they" you speak of? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
