To bite, or to be bitten . . . that is the question.
livendive replied to kelel01's topic in The Bonfire
I'm down with nibbling/biting as hard as the woman wants. I'm also cool with being on the receiving end, though there are some places where teeth should just not be felt. Oh yeah, and I've learned that I (supposedly) bruise very easily. "Wait! Not so hard that it bleeds!" Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Hmmm...Somebody doesn't want to be beaten by a girl. waaah.

Car racing fans talk about it being a sport and the drivers being athletes. Well, until I hear shorter basketball players crying about the other guys have an advantage as a result of their height, I'm not gonna pay this much attention. Different body sizes/types have advantages in most competitions, e.g. taller basketball players and heavier offensive linemen. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Anyone ever tell you that you're mean? And fat too? People call me a fat bastard all the time. It usually involves a smile or a laugh while they're saying it, as do my jabs when they're going the other direction. Mean? Not so much. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Keep buying beer Jason. You're almost as good at that as you are at skydiving. Seriously man, you're kicking ass! Just don't let it go to your head...that usually prompts a lesson-in-humility jump for which you will not want to a) take the ridicule or b) pay the hospital bills. You call that a pieing??! I only see one pie "crater"!! There should be at LEAST 3 or 4 more!! Congrats on #100 Krisanne! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

That sucks. Why don't you tell them politely to quit being assholes? I just don't get how anyone thinks it's funny when you tease someone about their weight -been on the receiving end of that quite a bit in sky-jumping, unfortunately just because weight IS a concern with our sport... It still doesn't make it right to laugh, though. I tease jumpers all the time about being fat. They tease me back for being fat. I have no problems with it either way. I also tease people about landing in trees, fucking fat chicks, inadvertently pulling their reserve on the ground, getting bit until they bleed, having more reserve rides than is typical for their experience level, going low, taking too long to get to the formation, holding up the load because they didn't get ready on time, not knowing how to pack, arguing stupid premises, etc, etc, etc. I don't get quite as much as I give, but I wouldn't mind if I did. To me, that's just the nature of this sport. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Spokane shouldn't cost you much more than Seattle, and it gets you 250 miles closer to LP. Have you checked multiple airlines? Boise is another option, but likely more expensive than Spokane. In Montana, your options are Kalispell (closest), then Missoula, Helena, and Butte...all likely more expensive than Spokane. Southwest currently shows roundtrip Chicago-Spokane for the 27th & the 1st for $380, & Frontier shows $365. Cheaptickets.com shows Chicago-Seattle's cheapest round trip at $305. Save $60, but add 500 miles worth of driving (roundtrip) Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

There'll be more than you might think, it's just that not all of them postwhore like the rest of us. We can make jdobleman organize it. I don't know whether we'll have the skill to complete a formation load, but I bet we'll have the people and skillset to at least give it a reasonably safe try. If I remember correctly, the record set last year was like a 2-point 24-way or so? That's within the realm of possible. And I don't blame you for getting skeered on the POPs loads. Those things usually look pretty scary to me on the ground! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

When you say two-way bipole, you're talking about bumping feet, right? That thought hadn't occurred to me because there are no grips to take, but it's also what I was looking for. It might give me the chance to chase someone while backing up (not something I have to do very often because bases on which back-ins might be planned can usually fall straight down). It also has the cool skills improvement aspect for teaching back-ins because it'd be easy to get a little separation and make them slide back to the "dock". Thanks Ron. Edit to add: Oops...now that I think about it, you were probably talking about two people next to each other in the the star-bipole, not facing-outfacing each other. It did seem a *little* aggressive to be teaching back-ins this early in their career. On the 90-180-270-360-540, you just fly base and have them do all the turns? So it's round-sidebody-sidebody-cat-cat-round? Blues Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

So you're jumping with a newbie. He's finished up his A-license card and is either finishing up the 25 jumps or is a fresh A-license recipient. In my experience, the only real thrill of these jumps (for me) is scavenging some of their excitement off of them and enjoying their grins. I mean, it's a 2-way...usually not very challenging (unless they forget everything they learned in their student program). So...we humans are usually creatures of habit; what 2-way's do you find yourself usually doing? Anyone have anything outside of the standard turns, open & compressed accordians, cats, and sidebodies? Something that's inherently fun for both the student and the instructor and yet provides some skill improvement for the novice (i.e. not freeflying, tube exit (69 in a 2-way), or helicoptoring)? STRONG vs SIGMA vs VECTOR vs ECLIPSE TANDEM RIGS
livendive replied to foreverfree's topic in Instructors
I don't know nearly enough about Racers, Sigmas, or Strongs to get too involved in that discusion, but thought I'd respond to this part. The safest system design is one in which operator error cannot cause system failure. The less susceptible a system is to operator error, the better the system is. umm..find a decent marinade, soak the chicken in it, and then grill the chicken? Maybe serve it with rice? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

So far my schedule for the weekend includes night jumps tomorrow night, a birdman jump from 25,000, a demo jump with flag, a couple tandems, a couple AFFs, and several fun jumps...all of them landing within 100 yards of the loading area. Plus I'll have nice weather, some good meals, some good company, and maybe some tastings at a few of the local wineries. Nah...Kapowsin is really nice, but I think I'll stay here this weekend. edit to add: I just looked at the forecast link in your post... Saturday partly cloudy, Sunday mostly cloudy, Monday showers! Did I mention the excellent forecast for Richland? LOL Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Not all of us can afford to lead a nomadic lifestyle. We have to separate our play times with work time. You still at Eloy or are you at Perris now? Nice job on the jump numbers! Jeezus, you're hitting it hard now eh? Well, not so hard....umm, I mean, you're making lots of jumps on your trip? Planning on your 100th at Perris this weekend?
