  1. What he said. I feel comfortable that my rigger's ass is covered on my rigs by virtue of our waiver, but if an up-jumper gets his reserve packed by a rigger who is not affiliated with the dropzone where said up-jumper bounces, whose waiver is the rigger going to wave around to ward off the ambulance chasers? 2. I tell my students that the best way to know if they pulled the handles completely is by throwing them away. And it's MY handles they're losing when they do this! Taking the sh*t is worth it. Nice job doing your part to help Steve save your ass. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  3. It's available at mininova. What's mininova? A store? Or something like Napster? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  4. Well, you can impeach everyone who voted for him the next time you go to the voting booth. Good luck! Unfortunately, the people who voted for Bush have taken on his defining characteristic...immunity from anything other than the consequences of their actions. What's more, the rest of us have to suffer those consequence right along with 'em. The funny part is they even use the same excuses...either everything is good or their decisions were based on bad intelligence. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  5. When Lee and football are involved, it's more of a cunt punt. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  6. You raise a good point about the energy having to from from somewhere. My electricity is almost entirely hydroelectric, nuclear, and wind generated. Those who depend on coal or other fossil fuels need to improve their point source emissions/energy sources in addition to their non-point sources. Personally, I'll buy an EV when it makes sense economically. As long as it's (much!) cheaper to commute with the truck I need anyhow, I'll stick with that. 7. Speaking of men in dresses, have you seen this picture of Billy Vance? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  8. That was really hard to read for a number of reasons. I'll just say that I disagree with everything except the "thank the GI's" part. Also, impeachment is not a viable option right now. Not enough time. Congress is split down the middle even with the Democratic "mandate" , the debate would be played out not in the evidence, but in the talking point of "this is just politics and retribution for the 90's" crap. It would be a circus run by a bunch of overpaid clowns. Meanwhile, things would continue to go to shit both here and in the clusterfuck that we created in the Middle East. IMHO, the Hague is the answer. I agree with all of your post except the last sentence. I would need a LOT more evidence before I'd be suggesting a trial in the Hague. Even if the timing doesn't work for an impeachment, I'd rather our Congress make an attempt to clean our own house before asking outside powers to. If we don't have sufficient evidence to impeach, we certainly don't have enough to prosecute for war crimes, and if we do have that evidence, we should be doing something with it ourselves. 9. Here's what I've seen in Washington since I started jumping, all but Pullman's close being in the last 8-10 years. Stable: Toledo Snohomish New: Mt. Vernon Sequiem (apparently...hadn't heard of it before today) Moved: Mead-to-Davenport-to-Ritzville Shelton-to-Bremerton-to-closed Kapowsin-to-Shelton Port Townsend moved locally Closed: Pullman (Planagan's place) Yakima (Leonard's) Richland (Larry & Bob's) Kennewick (BJ's) Kennewick (Yacek) Bremerton (Blue Skies) Eastern Washington has really contracted. Western Washington appears to have one more DZ now than they did 10 years ago. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  10. What Scott said. The Museum of Flight is close to downtown and is time well spent. The Science Center seemed a little too kid-oriented the last time I was there, but that was better than a decade ago. Still, I've had fun every time I've been there. If you're into music, you could also do the Experience Music Project. The Space Needle, Science Center, and EMP are all in the Seattle Center complex and within easy walking distance of each other. I'd go with the MOF as a first option and Seattle Center as a second. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  11. Is it in theaters or out on DVD? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  12. I don't think anyone has enough evidence to successfully impeach him. I do think an honorable man would have recognized his limits and resigned some time ago. However the blame lies not only with him, but also with those who elected him, especially the second time. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  13. In other words, he was in a direct position to observe that the display wasn't inappropriate (e.g. making out, groping, etc...which I have to assume is the kind of display that was intended to be prohibited). It doesn't sound like anything that was in poor taste. Perhaps for some. Personally, I frequently ignore rules with which I don't agree. I can think of one law in particular that I go out of my way to break solely because it's a stupid law. If my daughter took such a stand at school, I'd back her rather than the rule. I suppose that may be something on which we can agree to disagree. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  14. He had a cookie on his computer that said "remember me"? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  15. I got one this morning and feel fine. If I understand the process correctly, it's only the nasal sprays that should make you feel crappy, as they are weakened forms of live virus. The shots are of dead virii and shouldn't prompt any symptoms. I could be wrong. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  16. Oh I'm absolutely not saying you can't feel anything. I feel very different somethings depending on what I do with the toggles and risers, and the things I do described in my previous post are solely to get a "feel" for the flare. I'm just saying that while I can feel how responsive the canopy is to toggle input, my sensitivity is only so good. I can tell when I'm going flatter, and develop a pretty good idea of the flare characteristics, but I can't tell the difference between almost flat, flat, and popping up. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  17. I disagree. I do at least one "practice flare" up high on every skydive. I can feel it in the harness when I hit the point in the flare where the canopy has planed out. The only thing that can't be practiced/felt up high is when to flare; the mechanics can (and imho should) be practiced over and over, above 1000 feet. Up high, I cannot tell the difference between a fairly flat descent, a flat plane, or a slight climb. When I'm jumping an unfamiliar canopy, I just flare to gauge how rapidly it progresses from full flight to something around flat (and at what approximate toggle height). Ideally, I'll do this at least once from normal flight and once with induced speed. With this under my belt, I'm not often surprised during the actual landing, but it does happen. 18. I teach an IAD to AFF progression. 2 Simple IADs from 3000-3500 3 Practice pulls from 3000-3500 (arch thousand two thousand reach thousand pull thousand) 1 Clear and pull from 4000-4500 (arch thousand two thousand reach thousand pull thousand results in a 2-3 second delay by most students...the particularly good ones actually get around 4 seconds. The particularly bad ones are either 0.5 seconds or 7-8 and I like the cushion of some extra altitude on this stressful jump, more for my peace of mind than their's. ) 4 AFFs, starting with pulls at 5500 and working down to 4500. Note they haven't met that USPA requirement yet because of the altitude cushion I gave them on their first clear and pull. Soo....before they get their A, they have to exit at 3500 and pull within 5 seconds. Their instructions are to exit stable, facing the relative wind, using the same count they did at 4500. It's surprising how many develop the fear of 3500 during the AFF jumps...it was fine before but the higher pulls have rendered it scary again. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" 19. I liked this post, as it's relevant to both this thread and a couple questions I've gotten from a local jumper recently on myspace/email. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  20. I'd wait till after you get the TV to tell her about all the Vigil recalls...maybe she'll insist you buy both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players before she allows you to upgrade to a Cypres. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  21. I try to calm them down without misleading them. "We're jumping out of an airplane...you do realize it's not the safest thing you could do with your time, right? It's also not the most dangerous thing, but those waivers aren't just for fun. That said, I've done this a couple times, you're going where I go, and I have plans tonight that don't include being hurt. If you do what I tell you, we'll probably be ok. I'm confident enough that I'm willing to go, are you?" Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  22. We routinely have two AFF-I's at my DZ, myself and one other guy. We are both also needed in the tandem and video rotations on a regular basis. The other guy is better and much more experienced at AFF than I am, so I'm usually the first to go throw drogues or play vidiot while he gets down with the AFF students. There are a few others AFF-Is who show up occasionally, but not often enough for our students to count on even one of them being there on any particular weekend. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  23. This is a thread honoring our veterans. Your posts in it do nothing of the sort. Both of you should take your little squabble back to PMs. My thanks go to both of you for your service. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
