  1. Yes, my daughter is 19, and Muttley's step-mom is only 3 months older than me. That's not the point. Internet spammers should be tempting me with the naked bodies of hot chicks, not the great barbecue that their moms make! Coffee and interesting conversation?! If I live long enough to find this kind of spam appealing, I'll kick myself in the ass, respond to the Viagra spam that shows up 5 minutes later, and get back at it! 2. Holy shit! You know the standard spam one gets with the who "Hey, check you my pictures" or whatever? Well read the one I just got in myspace, along with a profile picture of some hot chick in a bikini... I think I'm offended! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  3. Not coming from you it's not, but that's only cuz you're so cool. When do I get to spin around on top of you again while Muttley videotapes? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  4. Well, I may not be cool, but I don't think I'm a pansy! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  5. If I were to say that most dz.commers are a bunch of pansies, but some are pretty cool? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  6. If all we went with was time-proven methods, there'd be no AFF, tandem, or IAD. I learned via PCA static-line on a Might Mak canopy with 26' LoPo reserve. I think my students benefit from more modern gear and training. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  7. I've been an IAD instructor for 10 or 11 years and haven't seen anything that bad *yet*. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but the worst I've seen so far is things like the bag/canopy coming up through the armpit or around the side farther down the torso. Of course all my S/L experience is PCA rather than direct-bag, so my idea of what looks normal may be different than yours. A static-line PCA deployment just isn't all that different from an IAD deployment. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  8. Who's doing it and how are you doing it (i.e. what kind of exit)? When considering the possibility last year I did one jump as a dummy student and thought the prop blast would be a bit much for a scared first jump student. Now I need to look at changing things up and possibly only having a Caravan to do my entire progression with (was IAD to the clear & pull, then one instructor AFF). I'm prefer to keep IAD in the progression, but only if the students have a good chance of learning and progressing at a relatively normal rate. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" 9. That really is a great picture of him.
  10. Those make me smile as well! Myself, Popsjumper, & NWFlyer are also in that first pic! My gripper's in there, does that count? In the group shot Krisanne posted, I'm right behind Lee.
  11. I remember that - the onions were pretty good. The Picallilly was too - but it gave me the shits! Just send a couple of jars to the farm in his name . . . Thanks. I mentioned the onions in my post last night...I think Lee would have laughed his ass off at Muttley's comment. Anyhow, they sell those here, but I think it'd be tough even for me to get them to you by this weekend, much less for woodpecker with having to go through customs. Still, I think it's gonna fall to him for at least the picalilly...I don't think I can get it here. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  12. I might get home in time for the second game, but I don't think I have much cash left in my account. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

    What do you do?

I've spent most of my life in various parts of WA state. A bit of a troublemaker in high school, I dropped out with crappy grades. I married, had a kid, and divorced while doing the Navy thing in California, then spent a couple years doing bouncer gigs at a couple of bars in WA. I thought I'd settled on a career with a few years of commercial fishing in WA, AK, and Russia, but had to quit that due to injury, so I started college. I got much better grades than I had in high school and got an AAS and eventually a BS, in environmental restoration and environmental quality respectively. After 10 years of working at a national lab (going to school the entire time too), I now work on groundwater remediation projects. My daughter is so far doing much better than me, with great grades in high school and into her second year of college...not to mention no real trouble yet, despite being older than I was when she was born. Started skydiving in 1995 and it scared the shit out of me. It took me 3 years to get 50 jumps in, but then the bug bit. 10 years, 4 ratings, and a couple thousand jumps later, I've had my ups and downs (ain't I punny?), but I'm still diggin' it. 14. A new paint job?! I thought you just wanted to get it waxed! Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  15. I didn't know #1 or the first part of #10, but think the second part of #10 is "Good luck". I had the tune to #3 in my head but couldn't remember the words. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  16. I like NASCAR. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  17. How many points is that worth? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  18. "Ever" means "in the last decade", right? If so, I'm merely a danger to society. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  19. You cannot change what has happened, only what will happen. A glance back now and then to see how far you've come and what improvements you can make to your path is productive. But if you're obsessed with looking backwards, you're not spending enough time watching where you're going and are unlikely to end up where you want to go. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  20. You're right, especially with product liability, but this one I don't quite get. One thing that bothers me here: can you think of any reason the plaintiffs would want this in place? A settlement often involves concessions by both parties. If I were the plaintiff in a case like this and agreed to do certain things from this point forward in exchange for things from the defendant, I'd probably want my committments kept quiet. This would keep people from knowing I admitted culpability and more importantly, would prevent the 30+ thousand member constituency of the defendent from knowing what requirements I was expected to abide by. How many people would you want checking your compliance with such a settlement? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  21. Find one. I tried. Do you have a homeowner or renter policy with a liability clause? Call your agent and ask them whether you're covered in the event you land on someone's car or roof. And what your deductible is. And whether a claim will be excluded just because the injured party is a USPA member. Next, compare and contrast to the insurance USPA provides us. I'll tell you this much, it would be a strange day that I would turn in a claim through USPA's insurer rather than State Farm. Oh, and one more thing...if your conversation with your insurance agent left you pleasantly surprised, you can go for broke by asking them if your loss coverage includes your gear being stolen from or lost at the DZ (the latter a result of cutaway and relevant given the cost of mains these days). State Farm will cover such losses, at least under some circumstances. A good friend of mine switched to them on my advice just because of this coverage and ended up using it a few months later. They bought her a new main, risers, D-bag, freebag, kill-line PC, reserve PC, and handles, minus a $500 deductible. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
  22. Female bosses CAN be as good as male bosses, but they don't seem as likely to be. If there are 100 male and 100 female bosses, I think a much larger percentage of the males will be good at it. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
