  1. Thanks for those replies fellas. Will be interesting to see what they come out with. The s-flyers always seem to be using experts in their vids. Is that because they're more responsive/aerobatic and therefore maybe look better on video i.e. they can pull off more visually impressive stuff? Or would it just be that they've flown experts for so long, they stick with em? Also, i know how most people hate classics cos they're old and a learner suit, but i can get pretty good time out of mine and can flock with people on bigger suits no worries. so its serving me well. How much more performance could i get out of an expert? The wing area looks very similar.
  2. Have you bought a profly yet? I was wondering the same thing - how the profly compares to the expert. I have about 60 jumps on a classic and a few on skyflyers. I much prefer the flying position of the classic so am tempted by the expert. Wondering about the range of the profly though. Anyone know how they compare? Was there a profly at the 71-way? think i saw a few experts.
  3. Cool, thanks for the info. Roll on pay-day!
  4. Sounds cool. Been wanting to use something other than my video camera and a rough guess at opening height to measure my performance! Does anyone know when a demo of paralog will be available? Also, was looking at a Garmin Foretrex. Are they outdated now? What's the recommended data recorder to participate? cheers
  5. er, make that... "up to 30" (and 2 at fox on the way home!) Hey, Wayne, any chance i can get a hi-res copy of that pic, please?
  6. Yes,you are wrong ! ! ! Some people like the stuff Sorry, but those people are gay and so is the BM site now Come to think of it, maybe there's something in the name... Bird/Man. Sorta has tranny connotations anyone want to buy a birdman suit?
  7. Maybe, in your neck of the woods it is dying off. But it's not in mine. Freeflying is the way forward the way i see it.
  8. Good on you. So long as you're able to land safely, i'd say stick at it for sure. I am a semi-regular yoga goer, but my arch sometimes leaves something to be desired cause most of my jumps i freefly. What i mean is, i'm flexible but a good technique (and a good arch) comes with hands-on practice. The flexibility will help, but getting up there is the best way to improve. Wind tunnel option sounds expensive but i'm just speculating, might be better to put that money into your AFF jumps? Go for it. Good luck.
  9. It's not just the US where they're not taught. I was lucky to learn at an awesome dropzone though, where people are happy to stay behind at the end of the day to help out newbies. Their beer was well deserved. (I jumped my own pack job on my 4th

  11. Good luck. Don't forget the cameraman.
  12. I hear you. Wait until you see Atairs "new" design known as the Aerosuit(TM) that was shown at the NY Met recently. The suit and the rigid wing they had on display make air sirens go off in your head. So, was that article put on the front page because it was controvercial, rather than being actual news? Just wondering. I like Jarno's Rambo comment, i was thinking exactly the same thing! I bet Arnie could pull it off! haha

    Death Question

Hi, firstly, i'm not an instructor or anywhere near, but i've worked at the DZ for about a year and a half and started out as a host / driver so i was talking to the customers a lot (before i started on the pack mat - now, not so much). I got asked that question everyday too and just told the truth. As far as i know there has never been a fatality at the DZ i work at, but i would expand and tell them that, yes accidents can and have happened in skydiving but, i would just put it into perspective for them and compare it to injuries in other sports like skiing / snowboarding, mountain-biking and even horse-riding. Stuff they are likely to have already done. Plus, the obvious, "There was a higher risk of popping your clogs on the drive to the DZ (Except when i'm driving, of course!)."
  14. I've only recently started looking into the history of wingsuiting, but i was going to say the same thing for sure... Yves Rossy should get credit for the first powered wingsuit. And, as for, unpowered, it seems there were many Birdmen that deserve their part of the credit, most of whom gave their lives to the idea. DeG deserves the credit of developing the modern, most succesful style of wingsuit so far. What pisses me off is the article on the front page is written like wingsuits - powered and unpowered - were previously unheard of until the two designs mentioned. Despite there being no footage of either in flight. Why don't you give it a go Dan? Strap one on and prove it works like the pioneers did.
  15. I had one for about 30 jumps. Pros: Cheap, light, comfortable. Cons: Easily chipped / cracked, noisy in freefall. The old aviators are hard as nails compared to the new ones. Mine fell off my locker and cracked. I would look at the Bonehead Echo.
  16. Nice bike. Here's my new one. It's my first too. Makes the trip to the DZ a bit more interesting.
  17. Wow, cool man, that's now one of my favourite shots ever. Got any more?
  18. Me too. Started jumping with a video camera at about 80. Just started using my stills. I have a Zenitar 16mm and it does the job fine for me. I have seen a few little sun spots in a couple of shots but nothing major. I got mine 2nd hand for NZ$130. I know guys that use them commercially and they've never had any complaints. It seems to be an ideal starter lens. Provided you have the interest / patience / know how to get all the settings sorted. Someone said above that you need an adapter to fit to a canon. My zenitar 16mm fits my Eos 350D fine with no adapter needed.
  19. I'm lower on the ladder than you (packer) but i'm doing ok for myself and looking forward to getting my jumps up and filming tandems when the time comes, then, who knows. What gets me is people who say the job sux as much as any other. Yep, there's bullshit and politics and skydivers aren't all the laid-back soul-flyers i was expecting but when i drive to the dz and pass people digging holes and filling em back in i'm grateful that i can work at a place where i can have fun at the same time. Some people need to learn a bit of humility. We are all here very lucky.
  20. That's awesome. Could've been a mammoth highside, eh?
  21. I was looking at the BOOBIES, but if you wanna look at the blokes thats up to you buddy

  23. I've only ever made punch twice but this recipe did the job for us; 6 litres tropical fruit juice 2 litres cheap vodka 4 litres cheapo cask wine 6 litres Sprite 1 or 2 cans of cheap tinned fruit salad to float on top and make it look flash It doesn't taste that flash but god damn does it get you drunky. One minute i was drinking it, the next i was waking up the next day - or so i thought! I thought i must have snuck off to bed, but i'd apparently carried on painting the town red until 4am. Don't remember a thing
