OK dude, what the guys here are saying is that increasing your wingloading will not improve your technique, this comes with practice. You'll improve the length of your swoops obviously if you downsize, but poor technique will still be poor technique(I'm not suggesting that your 90 approaches are poor BTW) Also when you downsize things happen alot faster and the margin for error greatly increases.(or is that reduces) So ask yourself have i got the requisite skills nescessary to recover safely from a learning curve induced f*!Kup That all said the Safire is a very capable canopy as is the Heatwave which i believe has Stilletto like performance any how(must add i've never jumped a heatwave).and i'm sure with the right instruction and jumps you'll be amazed at what you can really get out of your present canopy. I personally didn't change canopy type/size until i'd be successfully pulling off double fronts to 180's for at 100 jumps and even then asked the advice of a highly experienced mentor before i took that decision. Remember you'll look cooler flying a larger more docile canopy well than you will if you fly a smaller canopy badly plus you'll get praise not groundings.P.S Book a canopy control course worth every penny. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Main/reserve sizing with regards to two canopies out.

Biplane steer with the leading canopy.Side by side the larger/more dominant canopy all with gentle non aggressive inputs.I stand to be corrected. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER. -
Coaching with Babylon"spot on"as for all the coaching jumps in one hit?Hard to answer but may i suggest 3-4 coached jumps then consolidate what you've leart say 10+ jumps then back to the coaching. It's that how long is a piece of string chessnut again. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

feel quite confident in 90 deg.*** And you now feel ready to downsize/change canopy type. Believe you me,you can get a hell of a lot more out of your current canopy and IMHO i would keep it and spend the cash on jumps and if you have done so already a good canopy control course where im sure there be able to teach you how to take that thing to another level.Plenty of life in the old girl yet me thinks. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Main/reserve sizing with regards to two canopies out.

Thankyou for the imput.I was fretting if the configuration would increase the risk of a main/reserve entanglement . .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER. -
Main/reserve sizing with regards to two canopies out.
trigger replied to trigger's topic in Safety and Training
Hi guys and gals, excuse my ignorance but i was just re-capping on what to do in a two out situation(biplane, downplane etc)when it occurred to me that my reserve is that larger, abiet only 20sq/ft than my main canopy. Not having experienced a two canopies out situation myself,i was wondering if this configuration would have an adverse effect on what to do as the majority of skydivers that i know jump a reserve which is smaller than there main. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER. -
Congratulations.I also started my swooping career with Sabre,no actually it was a ZP150(a Chute Shop SA creation that i was led to believe was a copy of a sabre)great canopy except for the short recovery arc which made me a veteran of the urgent recovery club, not good but better that than dead. Can't view the vid (MAC user)take care 5200 msl ehh must be fun .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

I can wail-away on the toggles without worrying so much.*** It's a good idea after say 2-3 360 spirals ,to return to full or braked glide and check your airspace again, its good to practice awareness under canopy. Remember, whilst spirralling, your canopy will be drifting with the relative wind as well as decending v.rapidly.. Play with the risers both front and back, but be smooth not snappy.. Finally have a plan and land alone and practice those flat turns. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

I have buried both toggles as far as I can and the canopy just chugs along .*** "Some student canopies" not being able to stall is, i believe a saftey feature of the canopy. Imagine a high flare, say 50ft,the canopy stalls, drops to the ground=1xinjured skydiver. I,ve seen it happen, crushed vertibrae..OUCHH!!!!! N.B. only referring to 1st time type student canopies here. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

The guys are right.Demo everything and not just 1 or 2 jumps on each,10+ would be good. Personally i think the cf2 just rocks and i'm confident that to try is to buy,it's that good. But wait a while as i'm sure you will as PD has a new baby in the offing and if the rumours are correct should be market ready v.soon. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.
-
Agreed!Toggle hooks to final are inherently more dangerous than front riser hooks & carving approaches are IMHO much safer than hooks. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Yup,you're right IC2 is being talked about.Probably no bad thing either, but as to what i'll consist of assuming it comes into force is anybodies guess... Personally i would rather see the increased availability of good well run canopy control classes & i think Chris lynch has gone a long way to address this problem.Education is the key. BTW low turns arn't evil.Too low turns like the ones initiated in panic due to lack of canopy flying skills are. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

The Crossfires an excellent choice,i personly jump a Crossfire2 and absolutly love this canopy, however i strongly advise a canopy control course(assuming you hav't taken one already)so that you can evaluate your skills on your present canopy before you decide to downsize/change canopy type. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

To summerise in short this canopy does exactly what Icurus claims it to do. I've just put over 150jumps on my crossfire2 129ft2 loaded at 1.65 in the last two months whilst travelling around europe, jumping in verying conditions[wind, dropzone msl & turbulance]this canopy excelled. It's got me back from v.deep spots due to its glide,it'll turn like a stilletto on toggles and is very responsive to harness input and boy this thing will swoop forever if like me thats your thing but straight in landings are also a breeze, this canopy can still generate "oudles"of lift even with low speed approaches. I could go on,but if your in the market for a Hp elliptical do not hesitate to put this one at the top of your demo list, you wont be disappointed.Money well spent IMHO
-
I wish I could find out what the difference/specialty of the canopy is also.*** Talking to a certain PD employee,i believe this canopy is going to be in direct competition with the Crossfire2,bridging the gap between the stilletto and the velocity in PD's range. Watching Rickster jump it at Vichy,it certainly looks up to the job. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

I'm sure he'll understand!Check the gym out though, you never know your luck. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Yeah, I know tires can be really expensive. My boss showed me a recipt for a replacment tire on his beemer. $430, i told him he could of got 4 other tires of the same size but a different brand for that price***Conoce! .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

Nearly, probably, almost definately every canopy manufacturer produces a canopy for your needs. If you can try and demo a suitable size PD sillohette or sabre/sabre2.Icurus safire2 etc etc .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.
