  1. Tree Huggers. Political post removed. Please take political commentary to Speaker's Corner and leave this for discussion of mitigating ecological impacts of skydiving. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  2. I'd try the West coast, I understand that there are DZ's there where you can tumble like a Chinese gymnast and still pass. Seriously though, Florida is the center of the skydiving universe John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  3. QuoteCounterpoint: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosie_O'Donnell *** You are indeed a skilled debater my freind. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  4. QuoteShe'd do for practice ...... Save ruining a good one. *** Like Peter Griffin told Meg, "you're what's called a practice girl". John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  5. QuoteI disagree with Lv1 being a 'free ride' and passing a student that doesn't pull. But with regard to lack of debriefs and blowing smoke... no one has advocated that. ***Ok then, since we're pretty close to agreeing on something, maybe we can be freinds again. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  6. QuoteYou, Nick and I all keep saying the same thing... talking about both the good and the weak aspects of the skydive is important, not ignoring the good and focusing on the bad (or vice versa). I haven't seen anyone yet advocate blowing smoke, saying is something is good if it's not, etc. ***Perhaps you need to re-read this thread, starting at the point where lvl 1 was described as a free ride. 7. QuoteThere are some nice places to eat there. ..and don't forget the big store on the corner that sells love supplies. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  8. However, when passing off students to another instructor, in debriefing the new instructor things may be said that you would not say to the student in order to make sure the focus in training is on what's needed. I'm not talking about little details, I'm talking about not properly debriefing your students. Which is the same as Nick's btw. ***I'm sure that makes Nick feel much better. 9. QuotePalatka is where it's at. ***It's possible that I'm slightly biased, but I must agree. Freindly folks, 1st 182 load free on Sat & Sun (before 9) and Art teaches a class there on Sunday nights for all the packers working on their GED. Not much else to see in town though John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  10. I think we're getting way off track here. When did anyone say anything about yelling at students, I'm talking about being up front and honest with people that pay good money and deserve it. Blowing sunshine up a students dress or writing one thing in a students log then something different in a secret instructors only log is just wrong, If someone can justify in their own mind lying to their students or not telling them the whole truth, then more power to them, but they won't do it on a jump that I'm on. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  11. There's nothing wrong with keeping a duplicate, but I've got real issues with keeping a "secret" log for instructors only. Students pay good money and are entitled to an honest and open critique of their performance. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  12. QuoteMost dropzones keep a separate log book on each student that only the instructors see. Sounds like the case here. *** If by "most dropzones" you mean the one where you jump, then I think that's a possibility. I know of a DZ that holds a student's logbook (mostly to keep them from jumping elsewhere) but I've never even heard of a place that keeps a seperate one. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  13. Im a Sebastian fan.... I know it wasn't one of the options, but it is by FAR the friendliest DZ in Florida, ***The friendliest? On what do you base that? Have you been to all the DZ's in Florida? I did'nt think so. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  14. The logbook is not just for the student, it's for his next instructor as well, and this entry provided little useful information. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  15. Sounds like your inst had some back to back stuff going on and did'nt take the time to properly debrief or log your jump, inexcusable. Good luck with your future jumps. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  16. The wings are an Enlisted Aviation Warfare insignia. They aren't "handed out" in boot camp. As a matter of fact, there is a pretty extensive qualification syllabus you must complete before you can go before a certification board. The surface and subsurface guys have their own insignias. GO NAVY! John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  17. QuoteI will be hanging with Art next week..and since he needs me for wheels, I will beat it out of him....and I will make him contract a C-130 for the flop. That is right....you heard it here first, a C-130 for the flop! .and for an additional $50 you can be on the C-130 load that takes off with JATO rockets! 0- takeoff in 2000'! ***Can I do Celine Dions' tandem? John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  18. Quote You are very quick to crucify other instructors (and/or the student) without having been there for the jump or talking with the instructors in question. *** Did you even read my reply? Go back and read it slowly. I said that "if" what he said was accurate then he needed to jump with someone else. I was pretty careful with my wording. Actually, I just reread it myself and it seems pretty easy to comprehend. I've been doing this for a long time and I've been paired with instructors that had no business being there, but never anyone as bad as the OP describes. Now, I'm not a doctor, but I do understand selective memory, and I doubt the instruction he recieved was as poor as he describes, but I'm not just going to assume he's full of shit because he's a student. He may have gotten world class instruction, but the bottom line is that he does'nt seem to have learned what he should have. Something's broken. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  19. QuoteMy end instructor was the one who was trying to get me on the radio. After I found the ground he was the one to come and make sure I was ok and that all my parts still worked. He helped me with my chute then walked me to the packing area then was gone. Didn't see him again. Thinking about it now I don't remember much of what he said. At that momant everything was still hurting. *** If everything you've said is true, you got ripped off on this dive and I would advise you to never jump with either of these 2 "instructors" again. I would also advise you to bring this up to the DZO. If you've been embelishing things, then I wish you luck when you go back. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  20. QuoteSorry to say its true. I asked him some questions but really didn't get much for answers. Then he told me to come back for my Lvl 2. I'm hoping to go back this sunday for my AFF lvl jump. *** I'm assuming you had 2 instructors on this jump. What did the 2nd instructor do? John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  21. Quotemy instructor didn't tell me anything about the jump other than I missed the pull now signal. *** I sincerely hope that isn't true. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  22. There are some who call me...Tim? John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  23. I heard that Celine Dion will be the entertainment on Saturday night. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  24. QuoteThis thread has reiterated that indeed I'm not allowed to comment on anything bar the occasional bonfire thread till I got 1000's of jumps I'm out. *** I think 500 is a better number. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
  25. QuoteI've seen no pulls on AFF1 walk away very happy and come back for a killer AFF2... it seems like this post has just killed your confidence and been counterproductive. *** Nothing will kill you faster than false confidence. Maybe someone with 25 jumps should'nt be giving advice to students. John Wright World's most beloved skydiver
