  1. Oh, I forgot to add, after 9 years of jumping, I finally got my own custom made harness (after several second hand jobs, and one factory stock one) late last year...there's a lot of credence to what Phree said. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. At the end of the day, ya gets what ya pays for..... However a used rig, if it fits well, can be a good way of getting you in the air, filling a gap if you are transitioning from student gear to something a little hotter, waiting for your new gear to be built for you etc etc etc. A used harness and reserve can be fitted with a brand new main, and hey presto..... But only you can decide what you want to spend your money on.....You are unlikley to get any 'killer bargains' on the used gear scene, so if you see something real cheap eye it suspiciously. Also the temptation exists to buy something that may not suit you right now, but it is immediately available. The seller may woo you, by telling you that the rig suits you perfectly, even though you are not ready for that pocket rocket straight off student status.... Whatever you decide to buy, talk it over here or with someone you trust first. Gear lust afflicts us all from time to time, so be careful. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. At least he's popular somewhere in teh world. What was all that gobbledegook about the Kurds near the bottom of the article though....I take it they don't get to vote? I suppose their voting system is a little more efficient than the one used in Florida for the presidentials... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 9. "I am burning from my hard rive to my cd(i thought wav files were what the home/car stereo use) the cd works on my computer" Your computer can see and decode all sorts of sound files, wav, mp3, raw etc....as long as the correct codecs (compressor/decompressors) are installed. Its not the same case with 'regular' cd players which are set up mostly to read CDA files. Is there an option to "burn cd as audio(cda)" or something similar? This important if you want to stop making coasters... 15. "If the old man could see a modern canopy. I wonder what wild improvements he could come up with
  16. "I guess old Leo didn't think it all through then: " The idea was good, but I think the Skyvan was busy the day he went to test jump it, and he couldn't fit the frame inside the local DZ's cessna... I think a braccia is equal to about 2 metres....so even if the skyvan was available he would have had a hard time fitting it in. Besides, his reserve was probably up for a repack... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 20. Nacmac sneaks into the RW forum... In my previous life as a belly flier, before I discovered the joys of 3 dimensional flying.... When I was learning CP turns, I got someone to lay base, and another to film. It took a couple of jumps like this with a sympathetic coach to nail them. The secret of cp turns is to have balanced input from teh upper and lower body, without this you will not turn around your CP. too much leg input and you turn around your head / upper torso. Too much arm input and you turn about your thighs etc.... Until you see what you are doing wrong on film, you are wasting your jump money. A coach and a camera flier will save you money in the long run, and it helps to avoid bad habits. If you are stuck for money, get a chum to lay base, and alternate with him but deffo get them filmed. 21. "Wasn't ballsy enough to land it though, I hear... " Not surprised either, 20-30 kilos of pine and canvas over your head, and no option to swoop the energy out of it.... He might be eccentric, but he's no fool. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 22. Nice idea Erno, but its not really very Hi tech..... I've seen sketches similar to the thing you describe by a dude called Leonard Da Quirm.... I don't know if he actually built it though. I know my friend Adrian..self confessed 'eccentric aviator' built and jumped a replica though...pics atached, ok to open erno. No fat elvis here yet.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 24. From your website.. I am an avid skydiver ...under construction...... When you are finished being constructed, I would not suggest you try this....It won't work. Unless you want to be deconstructed by horrendous deceleration trauma.... A better suggestion would be to strap a wind tunnel prop and turbine to your belly, and moments before impact, fire that sucker up and levitate to safety.... The baggy suit is critical to all this, you would need a baggy suit to house the turbine, and associated fuel tank, or fuel cell, and controls. You would need a turbine cos a regular pistion engine would be too slow and unreliable starting up, and its probably too bulky to fit on your belly.... You would have to be 100% sure that you could fly the assembly around and remain stable, otherwise, if you flip onto your back, the turbine and prop assembly would drive you into the ground. Please let us know how you get on. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
