Hmmmm, I wonder how many people knew the Star Spangled Banner was based on a drinking song? If you use a smaller packing 170 such as a 7 cell (eg spectre) you should be okay.... However, if I were you, I'd have a chat with a rigger, and the container manufacturer to be sure. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Yup, my PC7 suffers the same from time to time. Its caused by a worn ribbon cable, my guess is 150 bucks for a service should see you right. Why don't you describe the fault to a sony service centre to be sure..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Hehe, my first camera jump was a belly fly three way, we just passed the wee disposable camera around taking snaps of each other goofing. At pull time I just stuffed the thing back inside my jumpsuit....Never did tell the CCI (STA equiv) about it. Worked fine. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. I do a lot of consultancy work from home, but it does take discipline. The sort of discipline that comes in little green bottles.

Better still Dave, have it insured separately anyway, just like you would your cameras, bicycle, family heirlooms etc. If its lost, then you only have to deal with "inconvenience" (such a small word for so much pain..) I have only had one bad experience so far with lost luggage. KLM lost my rig, and a hard box with my laptop, and cameras in it. I went to Amsterdam, my gear went to Frankfurt......But got it back a day later. I had a large 'chest' of goodies impounded by the Thai customs, (the large chest was freighted separately on the outbound) who wanted more than its value in import duty, this was recovered in an unusual manner... Next time we have a beer I'll tell you about that little adventure. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Lord knows what happens to it when it's not in your sight... suppose some random loser decides to sever your cutaway cable just for fun.... " This is why you put it in a hard, lockable case, Samsonite or equivalent. It s actually much more likely that the 'loser' will try and 'handle' your rig by picking it up by the perfectly designed silver thingy...... Do you know what a luggage conveyor is likely to do to your nice fluffy bit of nylon when it spills out on the carousel? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Come to Vichy, just don't ask the jet to do a go around... IMHO (and I've had a few off landings in my time for a multitude of reasons), its better to be prepared for off landings. Ergo I jump a main and a reserve that I KNOW I can put down in a backyard, next to a highway, in a forest clearing etc.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. FYI thats Bruno Brokken over Empuria.... Some cool images here too.. http://www.bluebook2000.com/ Its a flash sie so you may have to explore a little, but trust me, the images are well worth it, if you want something out of the ordinary. USPA election candidate opinions
nacmacfeegle replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"As always, please try to keep it civil. " Vain hope Bill? Treetop, you are not doing a very good job of encouraging people to vote for you. I wasn't going to vote in the USPA, I have the right to vote as an international member, but because I am unlikley to be back in the US for a while, I figured I was morally obliged to abstain. Your discussion in this thread, and the way you have discussed the various issues involved has actually put me in a mind to vote, for anyone but you. Good luck on the hustings. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "For those Yanks out there that don;t know it, Penetanguishene, or Penetang is a remote outpost almost in northern Ontario." The Yanks may be geographically ignorant on some occasions, but us Scots get all over the place..... Penetanguishene is known further across the globe than you might imagine. I jumped at Coldwater a long time ago, I was visiting a friend in Midland- the next town round the bay (Georgian Bay), so popped in for some airtime. Nice place, really friendly peeps, and top class scenery. I heard the DZ at Coldwater is shut now.. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. What you consider when deciding where to buy gear?
nacmacfeegle replied to skybytch's topic in The Bonfire
For major spend items, physical location is a big consideration for UK (and Euro?) jumpers who want to avoid import duty hassles. Its bad enough spending large amounts of ill-gotten gains on a rig, only to have the cost increased just to get it into the country. If I buy a rig locally (in a global sense) then at least I know how much I'm paying. I got burned badly when buying my first rig this way. Apart from that, I will generally buy gear from people I like, respect, or have met at some stage or another. Price is secondary to this aspect, unless there is a HUGE difference. I really prefer doing business with people I know.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "advice before I take my chute on as carry on luggage." I did quite a lot of travelling with my rig post 9/11. Tips... Put it in a gear bag, or suitably sized carry on case. You know the wee things on wheels? they are perfect. Remove your knives, and put hem in the hold. Tie your reserve handle on with a brightly coloured pull up. Or better still use your chest strap to secure your res handle, there was a pic of this in last months parachutist, failing that PM Quade, he did a write up about this. Make sure your audibles are switched off. Show up plenty early (3 hours before dep time), and be "nice polite guy" with the check in and security staff. Carry your cameras in a separate case, be prepared to have the rig checked into the hold... Is a Cobalt safer for big way jumps?

Hey Conway whasssuuup? Any how, Waller is up beside Skydive Houston, surely there is someone there who knows what is going on here?
