  1. Nah, it'll just be me that weekend. However.... If anyone is free the weekend before (end of may) and would like to take time to learn about/see a DIFFERENT adrenaline sport, come out to Pikes Peak International Raceway...we'll be there, and my hubby will be racing! Fun fun! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  2. I'm so glad to hear it! Can't wait to help break that record! Andi Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  3. I'll third that motion. I just ordered mine...I can't wait to get it! It's very affordable, looks great, and it's gonna be here in 4 weeks!!! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  4. Tetris...ugh...and I just got a new version for my PC! I'm insane! Snood, definitely. But I can currently play The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind all day if my husband didn't come and drag me away from the computer. Thoroughly addicting RPG. 5. Why? Seriously, why not make it a compromise? I'm talking on smaller stuff here...not 100-ways where two guys are low. I've found it makes it a lot easier on the low person (and on the high people) to pick a spot in the middle and meet there. That way everyone does their own share of the work getting the formation back together. I know conventional wisdom says go to the low person, but some very smart and accomplished skydivers taught me the compromise way, and it works. In your case, Newbie, with your experience level, you probably did the right thing sticking with the coach. I would recommend also getting some coaching and doing some fall rate drills with a coach. Or hit the tunnel. I know, they can be "boring", but being able to control your fall rate will be one of the best skills you'll EVER learn and will help you learn everything else faster, as well. 6. If you ask at the ticket counter for them to look up "Airtec Cypres" in their computer, they will. They should also be able to print out a little statement on a blank ticket stub. It's always worked for me if I got questioned about my rig. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  7. As my car is beginning to fall apart, I've been seriously looking at the following: The WRX (#1 on my list...may wait until the STi comes out...300 hp and 4wd!) Rally cars: it just doesn't get any better than that. May also look at the new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution...supposed to be just as good. Mini Cooper. God, that is one cool little car! VW Jetta TDI. 49 mpg, nice-looking, nice-handling. Very nice little car. I'd recommend a test drive. There are sure a lot of smart people on here....look at what's leading your poll!!! 9. LOL, we don't have packers at my home DZ, so when I'm at home, I have to. Because of that, whenever I go to a bigger place (like Eloy), I pay a packer to do it. It's one of the little luxuries I allow myself. Besides, like Zenister said, whenever I'm at Eloy, I'm either training or trying to jump as much as possible, and packing for myself just takes the energy out of me. 10. hmm, there's no dots in AZ, even though I heard from the source that the contract was finally signed on the land and with investors? Well, the one in Perris is coming, at least! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  11. It's my 4-way team's logo. Yep, I'm a geek, but it's a freekin' cool logo!!! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  12. I'm hiking up Sandia Peak on Friday (we get that day off), going to a fellow skydiver's wedding on Saturday, then Sunday and Monday we're hiking Wheeler peak (up near Taos). Memorial Day weekend is one of the few weekends this summer that my hubby isn't racing and I'm not training, so we're spending it doing a mutual hobby. 13. So I was listening to the radio on the way back from lunch and a new song came on. It made me think of Holly and all my other fallen skydiving friends...by a new band called Feel. "Got Your Name On It" When the air comes in at night It almost seems to call out your name When it’s dark out, when it’s light The seasons change But your love remains Chorus: And there’s a blue sky Got your name on it, got your name on it And when the sun shines Got your name on it, got your name on it Even this heart of mine Got your name on it, got your name on it So I never will forget you When the leaves fall past my knees Reminds me that I can’t live without you Something you are changes me Into something I wanna be Repeat chorus Never could remember names Always seem to forget a face But if my memory of you should fade All I gotta do is look up Repeat Chorus Sorry if this is depressing, but I think this song is perfect!
  14. tee hee...did anyone else find that scene in Fargo absolutely hilarious? Or am I just going to hell? Seriously, one thing that really pisses me off about living in NM is we have very few recycling options. Work recycles white paper, but the urban recycling program only takes cardboard, aluminum cans, and plastic. No glass, and no magazines. Where I used to live in Ohio it was great....they took everything, sorted it for you, made it really easy to recycle. Of course, it won't really catch on until more people buy more recycled products. 15. I land crosswind on purpose practically every time I choose to land in the main landing area at Eloy. I could choose not to, but it's good practice (and a shorter walk!) If I'm not making it back to the DZ, I'll usually land downwind for fun if the winds aren't too raging. That's good practice, too. I have 730 jumps Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  16. Well, it depends (like most people on here have said). On My Jedei 105, which seems to fly stable whatever I try to do to it, I'd probably land the main. On my stilleto, that's a different story. For example, just 2 weekends ago, I opened under my stilleto and was turning. Now, an off-heading opening is pretty normal, so I did what I always do, try to steer the opening with my body weight and the rear risers. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the canopy flying straight, it kept turning, and turning faster. At this point I was approaching 2000 ft and I really didn't have any more time to figure out what was wrong, so I chopped it. It was only an unstowed toggle. Did I HAVE to cutaway? Maybe not. Personally, I'm not second-guessing my decision, though I did receive some grief at the DZ for not trying harder to fix it. Sorry, my personal "Stilleto policy" is if I can't get it flying straight before I unstow the brakes, then it's probably going to go. I would contend on some spin-prone canopies, that you may not have time before your decision altitude to figure out the problem, respond, fix it, and be flying straight. If this is the case, reserve it is... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  17. http://www.skydiveaz.com/Fun_4Way.htm made it clicky. Also, you're on the skydiveaz.com front page now, too! way to go! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  18. Don't do it! I have it on good authority that FrikkenSkydiver is a danger in the air! She's not to be trusted! (just kidding, y'all...she's one of my cool teammates) Seriously though...go to these! They're fun, and you never know who might be there to participate or help coach (hint hint Airspeed hint hint) Christy, maybe cross-posting these in the RW forum would be ideal, as well... 21. I finally ordered a new container!!!! Woohoo! It's an Infinity with an articulated harness. All black, with smoke (gray) binding tape and royal blue piping on the main flap. It is gonna look so good! I was pushed over the edge when the rigger who repacked my reserve after my cutaway last saturday also had to repair about ten other things on my current container. For some reason VSE's website seems to be down right now, or I'd show you all the design. Let's just say I'm a super-happy camper right now! 22. I was just re-reading some of the posts in the "realtive work" topic, and I felt compelled to tell the story of my week. I put it in here because it's about an FS competition, but I suppose it could apply anywhere. I spent the last nine days in Eloy, the first four of them at my umpteenth Airspeed skills camp (can I just set up a trust fund for DanBC's kids here and now, so I don't have to worry about writing him all those checks? ), and the last four training and competing with my team, Audacity. Audacity is not just our name, but our philosophy. Between the four of us, we have a TOTAL of 2000 jumps. None of us has done a serious team before. We just found our permanent fourth a month ago. But that doesn't stop us from choosing to compete in the advanced class from the start. We like a challenge...we're audacious that way. But the absolute best thing about this team is our incredible dynamic. We click. Yes, we joke and make fun of each other, but it works. And we have fun. People can tell me all day about my skydiving, but what makes me the happiest is all the comments we get on our team dynamics and attitude toward the sport. We love this game! On Thursday, we jumped together for only our second time, and by the time Friday was over, we had a total of 29 jumps together as a team. We'd flown each block together once, some twice. Two of our members had never seen most of the blocks before this week, save for one weather day creeping session. That's OK, we were still planning on doing AAA the next day at the SSL meet. We had no expectations going in, and our only goals were to have fun and have a clean meet. Secretly, I hoped we'd finish the meet with a 6 average. Heck, I just wanted to be able to tell people who asked what our average is! Two days, six rounds, and one creeper competition later (AZ gets windy this time of year), we couldn't be happier. Audactiy may have finished last, but we kicked ass. We finished with a 7.83 average in the AAA class, had NO busts, came away with definite technical goals for the rest of the year, and most importantly, we had FUN. Actually, I feel a bit guilty for so seriously underestimating what my team (and myself) was capable of going into the meet. I'm happy that some of my personal heroes in this sport told us how well we did when it was all over. We weren't trying to impress anyone but ourselves, but the fact that we did makes it all the more affirming. I'll tell you though, the night before the meet, everyone we talked to did a double take when we said we were going AAA. "Are you sure? The big boys?" they asked. Absolutely. We're Audacity. We love this game. Blues... Andi Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  23. Hey Doc, this is Andi...I'm sorry to hear about your gear...I'll keep an eye on it here, as well. New Mexico is just small enough that people might not recognize it if someone did try to bring it here. How's the team doing? I thought I might see you this weekend at the SSL meet, but I guess not! 25. At the risk of incurring wrath, I'll post this. It's long, so I'll just post the link. He makes a lot of really good points, so please, just read the article before judging based on the speaker. http://www.sunspot.net/bal-op.robbins20apr20.story I'm not really "anti-war" anymore, but I am "anti-giving-up-freedom". Yes, radio stations as privat enterprises have the right to not play the Dixie Chicks. But as far as I'm concerned, it's going way too far when elemetary school teachers tell their students not to listen, or call certain people who are exercising their rights "un-American." ah, just read the speech. Here's an excerpt: Go kid! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
