  1. Actually that's a type.... It should be Ya'll want a coke? Can be used in singular or plural form! Blue skies, Jim
  2. Have him put it in an Asian or Far East mutual fund run by a US firm like Fidelity, T Rowe Price, USAA. Any brokerage firm can assist him. By the end of college he could have doubled or trippled his money. Jim Alkek, CPA Blue skies, Jim
  3. I recently flew AirTrans from Houston to Newark for $74 each way plus all the damn fees. Blue skies, Jim
  4. YOU KNOW YOU'RE FROM TEXAS WHEN: You can properly pronounce Corsicana, Palestine, Decatur, Wichita Falls, San Felipe, Westheimer, Cuero, Yoakum, San Antonio, Mexia, Waco, and Amarillo. A tornado warning siren is your signal to go out in the yard and look for a funnel. You've ever had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day. You know that the true value of a parking space is not determined by the distance to the door, but by the availability of shade. You think everyone from a bigger city has an accent. You measure distance in minutes. Little Smokies are something you serve only for special occasions. You listen to the weather forecast before picking out an outfit. You know cowpies are not made of beef and that meadow muffins are not baked by elfs. Someone you know has used a football schedule to plan their wedding date. You have known someone who has had one belt buckle bigger than your fist. You aren't surprised to find gasoline, kolaches, movie rentals, ammunition, and bait all in the same store. A Mercedes Benz is not a status symbol. A Chevy 3500 4x4 is. You know everything goes better with Ranch. You actually get these jokes and are "fixin' " to send them to your friends. You go to the river/lake because you think it is like going to the ocean. Finally, you are 100% Texan if you have ever heard this conversation: "You wanna coke?" "Yeah." "What kind?" "Dr. Pepper." Blue skies, Jim
  5. http://www.Intellicast.com is pretty good too. Blue skies, Jim
  6. At Eloy last Saturday, I had my right brake line tied in a knot onto the tip of the toggle. Problem was the 16 inches of line in the loop to and from the knot. Canopy deployed in a hard right turn that I immediately countered by pulling the left brake line to almost my waist. I could see the knot after I release the brake, but couldn't lip it off the toggle tip because any attempt to reach over with my left hand started the hard right turn again. I could turn the canopy to the left and right and stalled it with a full flare on the left and a 2-4 inch flare on the right. At this time I was at 1K and near the main landing area running South with a West wind. After turning to final (West) I kept repeating to myself to gently flare right, gently flare right. As I flared I started the left flare slightly before moving the right to make sure I didn't start the left turn again. About a foot off the ground the canopy did start to move to the left, but a good PLF was hardly felt. With my pride bruised and huge grass stains on the right side of my jumpsuit and container I walked away from the landing. At deployment I was around 2.5K and immediately saw the loop of line and knew it involved the toggle. Had I not been near the main landing area I probably would have cut away because landing in the desert at Eloy under a main that wants to turn could be a very unpleasant landing since the ground is like concrete and every damn bush out there has thorns the size of knitting needles! What would you have done? Blue skies, Jim
  7. Yes it was Cantu who was involved in the shooting with police. I confused Garza and Cantu because both have extensive criminal records and were gang members. (I live in Houston and there is a lot more detail than being reported by the unbiased press.) Blue skies, Jim
  8. Let's see if I have this straight. Guy lies on the witness stand, years later he gets into a shootout with a cop, case is not prosecuted, he becomes something of a celebrity in the latino community but testified previously against a latino who was executed. Sounds like he likes the celebirty thing. Why would anyone believe him now? Nothing has changed except his friend is dead and he is still lying to make the most out of the situation. Blue skies, Jim
  9. NJ and NY have very active Attorney Generals who eagerly prosecute corporate fraud. I would definitely call them. Probably won't help you get your money back, but it will create a lot of problems for the business and cost them way more than what you paid. Blue skies, Jim
  10. Hope you have a great day. Sorry I will miss it for the first time....and due to skydiving too! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  11. We have a whole box of them at Spaceland. I will see if I can send you a scanned copy when I get back to Houston. Blue skies, Jim

  13. Whew, thanks Rebecca! For a second I thought he was talking about me since we met at Perris on Sunday. Blue skies, Jim
  14. Ahhh, but I know who you are and where you live!!! Blue skies, Jim
  15. Received a PM from someone who sounded upset about one of my prior posts; "you don't know shit about xxxx!". Since his profile was blank, I told him to FO. He replied that I was hostile and terminated the conversation. I can take the shots and I don't know everything so I am willing to listen if you tell me( all of us) who you are. You attack anonomyously and you get what you deserve! Blue skies, Jim
  16. Bill what does this mean in context with the story? To me it implies more foreign involvement by someone... Blue skies, Jim
  17. Nope, usually don't get it off either. Sent an email to vets in my email list thanking them for their service. Always saddened when some of them come back as undeliverable each year. Blue skies, Jim
  18. Reading it right now! Please don't give it away... Blue skies, Jim
  19. In Houston the mice/rats are huge. I had one in a large rat trap that didn't die right away. He managed to crawl, dragging the trap with him, and fell into the gap at the top of a wall between the bathroom and a bedroom. I didn't think the smell would ever go away! I now tie the traps to a nail in the attic when I have to put them out. Thankfully have not had to use them since the dog ran away and I got rid of the dog food. Blue skies, Jim

  21. Me too! I go out the back door at night and the light automatically comes on which makes them fly off the wall! I've had one land on my head and one land on my shoulder and run over to my neck and down the inside of the shirt. Nothing like a little screaming and jumping in the driveway under the neighbors bedroom window to startle them from a sound sleep! Edited to add: I'm an old guy and can't stand excitement like that! Blue skies, Jim
  22. You wouldn't want to visit with Alanab, Justi & Amanda965???

That'll teach you to fly Southwest!!! Blue skies, Jim
  24. Does this mean that all the Golden Knights will end up broken because they underload all their huge canopies? I don't think so, but a large canopy can create problems for a jumper too. For example, you will not be able to penetrate a very high wind so you need to learn to adjust your landing pattern accordingly; or to select your out early! On the other hand, the larger canopy may allow you to survive some of the mistakes you may make early in your jumping career. You still need to learn how to fly the monster. Is it the canopy that broke you or did you do or fail to do something? Blue skies, Jim
