Richard Hatch. He has been a mainstay at Sci-Fi Conventions for years. From what I could tell he has spent the past 20 years making a living off selling autographs at Conventions. Right before the NEW BSG came out, I went a panel discussion hosted by Richard Hatch about the series. he had been trying to get the franchise restarted for years and had written his own "Continuation" of the series. He had also self funded making a 10 Minute Trailer for his concept of a New BSG (With him as the Star of Course). He had been trying to sell the idea to networks for years. There were a lot of questions about who actually owned the right to the Franchise too. Hatch had some convoluted way of thinking that made him the Owner. Right about the time he came out with his Trailer, This OTHER project for a totally rethought BSG came out and was picked up. Hatch was written into it basically to shut him up. I was at another Sci-Fi Convention in Vegas that year and ended up at a Bar with Herbert Jefferson (Boomer in the original Series) and one of the Guys from the original Land of the Lost. Herbert was furious he was totally left out the new series.

Most of what Jan posted is supported in the Court filings from the Lawsuit. Keeping mind that the Judge threw out 4 or the 8 Claims that Skyride made in their Lawsuit. The 4 Remaining Complaints that the Judge was going to allow to go to court all dealt with the issues that were brought up in Jans Post. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3235555#3235555 I personally do not believe that there was any great conspiracy between Bangs and Quotossi, But I do believe 100% that reason the USPA had to settle was because they could not win this lawsuit. Skyride/ASC was correct that the USPA did not follow their own Procedure in expelling them. Skyride was 100% correct in their claims that BANGS used their expulsion to try to recruit their Employees to work for a competing DZ. The USPA would not have prevailed if this had gone to court because of these two Issues. Once again, READ the court documents. Why did the USPA Loose/Settle this case? 1. The USPA did not follow their own rules when the expelled the Skyride DZ`s. 2. USPA EC/BOD members used the expulsion to try to help their own DZ`s. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3234909#3234909 The Judge allowed these claims to stand to go to trial. The USPA had no chance of disputing these claims because they are True. This is why we had to settle. Many people have tried say for so long that we lost this case because of Jan. Now we finally get hear Jans side of the story. So far that story (For the most part) meshes completely with the court documents and judges ruling.

I don’t think I have ever heard ANYONE say that "making our place to live cleaner, and more efficient" is a bad idea. I don’t know of anyone that is opposed to cleaning up the planet. The problem that many people (Including myself) have is that so many highly questionable and unsubstantiated things are being tossed around as "Fact" in regards to Global Warming/Climate Change. Pollution is Bad. No one doubts that and we all need to do our part. But are we willing to live without power or greatly reduced ability to generate power based on questionable science? The environmentalists have successful blocked any new Nuclear Power generation plants from being built in the past 20 years. They want to shut down Coal Fired and other Power Generation Plants based on these studies. If they are successful, where will we get electricity from? Even the notion that man made carbon is the cause for Global Warming/Climate Change is still disputed by many highly respected scientists. The environmentalists are using these flawed studies to pass Laws that have an effect on all of us. The general public is being brainwashed into blindly accepting things that have not always been proven to be completely true. Not sure if you remember the great “Hole in the Ozone” scare from the 80`s where scientist and the press tried to convince us that refrigerants and Aerosols (Chlorofluorocarbons) were causing a great hole in the ozone that was guaranteed to kill us all. I absolutely support cleaning up the environment because it is the right thing to do. I completely support being environmentally friendly and reducing our impact on the environment as much as possible but not to the point that we go back to horse drawn carriages (Actually Horses Fart and that is just as bad for the environment according to the alarmists so forget this option as well) and living in caves. There is Middle ground and we need to find it and ignore extremists on either side.

The GM`s are the ones reaping the benefits. This policy protects the group members just as much as the individual members. Let them pay the deductible for claims originating from their DZ`s. The result is the USPA gets a drastically reduced premium with minimum exposure to the USPA. I hope you are right about the membership numbers. I personally think the projections are overly optimistic. Plan for the worst, Hope for the best. Edit: to correct spelling error.

Do you think there will be a significant drop in Dues paying members this year? Do you think an Increase in Dues will affect the number of members we loose? How much of a difference will an increase in ratings fees make in overall revenue? With the downturn in the economy and less people making skydives in the coming year, the people holding ratings will possibly be making less than they currently do. How many will just say screw it if and not renew since they will not be making as much money anyway? Another idea: Would the Insurance Company reduce premiums if you went with a small deductible plan? The idea would be for the group member to cover the small deductible in the case of a claim.

Why does our DZ always get the freaks? Sad thing is you will not even be the weirdest person there.

My point (and not real clear as I reread that) is that membership WILL drop this year due to tough economic times. Revenue will drop no matter the USPA does in my opinion. I would not be surprised to see Membership numbers in mid to High 20K`s range this year. My point was that the USPA should look at cutting costs before raising fees. I made some specific suggestions that could save 200K to 300K this year. The $5 to $10 increase will not make a difference at all to me. The USPA will still get the same $100 Check I usually send (Renewal, Priority Mag Delivery and Remainder to Airport defense fund.. So any increase in dues will just come directly out of the airport defense fund portion), But there are many other there that will not renew if they increase prices. And many more that will not renew no matter the USPA does.
