  1. You may want to try "Hydrotherapy" ... get in the deep end of a pool with a float belt (used in water aerobics) and do deep water kicking or water jogging Here are a couple of links thaat may help http://teamtimex.timexblogs.com/2009/02/18/water-running-aka-aqua-jogging-aka-losing-your-mind-in-the-pool/ http://running.about.com/od/gear/ht/howwaterjog.htm Simply do a normal "flutter kick" while you are upright in the water. This will give you some strength training and help flexibility without any weight bearing on the joint - muscles - tendons. You also get the added benefit of some “aerobic exercise” while you can’t run, if you can’t get your heart rate up then simply kick harder or skip the float belt Check w/ your Dr ... but I have found this invaluable tool recovering from injuries when I was still racing (Triathlon) and through several rehabs from Skydiving mishaps that included major orthopedic surgery 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  2. We all know the problems we currently experience with individual Medical Insurance policies that EXCLUDES activities such as Skydiving … how do you think that the new “Public Option” will impact us? Does Medicare have such EXCLUSIONS? Has anybody seen any of the proposed legislation? 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  3. Do the TANDEMS for the following reasons ... (1) You can learn a lot from doing TANDEMS, work w/ a TI that knows what's going on and you can do a lot of "instruction" in a TANDEM pair. TANDEM's don't have to be just for "fun". (2) Add tunnel time to your TANDEMS ... this will GREATLY improve your freefall performance … work w/ an instructor in the tunnel … Skydive University is a great place to start http://www.skydiveu.com/ They offer professional coaching ... instead of your local "tunnel rat" (3) Learn to be patient … perhaps with time and experience your parents will become more understanding … try and get them involved by coming to the DZ while you jump …. parents are always protective of their children and sometimes that comes across as a bit tyrannical … but let then see the look on your face when you come back from the jump … patients is a virtue http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_is_patience_a_virtue (4) TANDEMS are not cost effective over the long haul but getting an EDUCATION will be ! (5) Life is long and you will go through many chapters in your life … you never know when you will need there help in the future … burning bridges is never a good idea ! This is just my opinion .... use it as "food for thought" 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  4. Before you make that decision ... read this Titanium Trochanteric Fixation Nail System Technique Guide .. when you get to the section that describes the "Slide Hammer for Hammer Guide" ... let me know I'm just glad I don't remember anything for 10 days http://products.synthes.com/prod_support/Product%20Support%20Materials/Technique%20Guides/SUSA/SUTGTITrocJ3900A.pdf 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  5. You missed one for the Aussies ... "All fizzed up" according to NASCAR driver Marcos Ambrose I did enjoy your insight on the French .. how soon they forget. I believe you were mistaken about the Americans … we no longer have a "War on Terrorism" or "threat levels" .... Global War on Terrorism has been replaced by "Overseas Contingency Operation" by the current administration and last time I looked .. the president was traveling the world .. apologizing for America and kissing the asses of most of the world leaders 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different

  9. No need to worry … this will not apply to the airline industry, you don’t think AlGore is planning on flying commercial do ya ? This is a total farce … how many ton’s of JP-5 / F-44 / AVCAT are burned every day ? Aircraft carriers in the gulf hold 2-3 million gallons of JP-5 .. enough to be used as ballast .. and get a refill of 1 million gallons every week according to the Military Channel. Do you think that they are going to create CAFE standards for the airline industry not to mention the RAIL ROAD industry or god forbid ... the MILITARY. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/portal/site/nhtsa/menuitem.43ac99aefa80569eea57529cdba046a0/ When it all boils down … AlGore claimed he “invented the internet” but perhaps he really “invented GLOBAL WARMING" or as it’s now known GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE .. but it really should be known as GLOBAL WEALTH DISTRIBUTION How many ton’s of AVCAT do you think they burned on Air Force 1’s little picture taking trip over New York City a couple of month’s ago .. let alone the FUEL used in the president’s trip to G-8 conference ? Remember …. all of the vehicles that have to be transported ahead of the president let alone the fuel used on AF-1 is actually transported to the refueling site from a “secure source” .. 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different

  11. Very intresting .... Does that apply to scumbag's that did an "intern" while actually in the office then deny it .. well until he realized that she was mentally unstable enough to actually keep the dress with the ejaculate stain :-) Where were all the self righteous groups then … whining it’s not a “women’s rights issue” or a “workplace issue” cause she said it was OK ! Perhaps he should send his wife on the morning talk shows .. to proclaim it's simply a "Left Wing Conspiracy" ! Well at least he did not knock her up .. deny it .. and get caught sneaking into her hotel room to see her and her kid ! ENOUGH of the Rosie O'Donnell brand of politics …. BTW .. How does Google define "lie under oath" ? [url]http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/multimedia/timeline/9809/starr.report/grounds/g1.htm 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  12. Hmmmm .... considering the audience the choice seems simple ... Suzuki Hayabusa http://www.suzukicycles.com/Product%20Lines/Cycles/Products/Hayabusa/2009/GSX1300R.aspx Dodge Viper VS Suzuki Hayabusa - any time you can blow off a Supercharged Viper ...
  13. Hmmm ... I don't have any where near 500 jumps (yet), does that mean I can have the surgical scars removed Tat's are a very personal thing ... this has always been my advise - Don't get one unless you plan on keeping it. - Avoid getting ones that you can not cover up if you work in a white-collar world, not everyone thinks there cool. - NAMES are absolutely NEVER a good idea - Always be completely SOBER when you sit down in the chair As far as getting a skydiving theme tat ... I look at it this way … there are two kinds of people in this world, those that Skydive and those that don't. We have all seen the look in a person’s eye’s when they come back from that first tandem … some go on to AFF and some buy the t-shirt and go home. Skydivers seem to be attracted to jumping out of planes like bugs attracted to the blue bug zapper light on the back porch ... we all know the dangers but something keeps us coming back for more. I have debated this same question for myself .... wow will someone else think I'm an asshole for getting a skydiving tat cause I don't have 500 jumps ? I guess you have to answer the question for yourself ... do you enjoy jumping out of a perfectly good airplane or not ! 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  14. I have a Polar S-710 that will record the heart rate @ 5 second intervals. The data can be downloaded to a PC in RAW format. I can make this available to anybody who want to volunteer @ skydive deland. It also has an "interval" or "lap" function that will allow the user to hit the lap key to identify "points" such as when everybody starts getting up to check gear, when the door opens, just before you exit etc Let me know and i can meet you @ the DZ 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different

  16. As an alcoholic thats been sober 12 years and doesn't tell ANYONE how they should live, (or what they should be smoking or drinking) and I'm here to tell you that your position is overly judgmental and ill informed, and that you appear to be prejudiced against entire groups based on a few annoying experiences. Is this your SOP? I hope not for your sake. As an recovering alcoholic, I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that I have FAR more direct experience with recovering alcoholics than you do, and I can tell you for a fact that we (as a general rule) intentionally avoid telling other people what we may think of their habits. I'm sure you are a great guy. I hope that you find a way to become less judgmental (and more educated on the subjects that you preach about) though, cuz your comments don't exactly put you in a favorable light. I'll take an alcoholic over a bigot any day of the week Sorry it sounded judgemental .. it was not meant to be ... but you're absloutley WRONG about this statement I doubt that very much ... seeng how I have not had a drik in 10+ years either, I grew up with an alcoholic who was never "recovering", I've watched several of my cousins ruin there lives with alcohol. I've got lot's of first hand experience and I know how much work it takes to remain "recovering" ... Again please accept my appology ... my comment was not intended to slam any group .. it was simply at attempt to illustrate how we ALL tend to preach sometimes and we usually don't like getting preached at. Even a GOOD message can be trampled on by the delivery :-) kevin 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  17. My only question is why did'nt you pull the manual for your container .... most if not all manufacturers have the "owners manual" online and I'm sure they would be glad to help you out if it's not online ? http://www.miragesys.com/Downloads/G4ContainerManual.pdf http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=91&Itemid=38 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  18. I do hear your argument about being preached to ... I feel the same way about seat belts and air bags. I fought wearing a seat belt for a long time for exactly the same reason I guess the Governor of NJ felt the same way but I'll bet he wears a seat belt next time As a 'non-student' you do have a choice ... problem comes in when you find yourself at 120mph + and 1000' of altitude and you're unable to pull the reserve handle ... and I'm betting you won't be preaching about it afterwards Btw .. I really don't care if you use one or not .. it's your life ... but for me the "choice" is simple. I hate reformed alcoholics, PETA and non-smoking laws ... even though the message may be valid the delivery really pisses me of sometimes My reply may seem a little sarcastic but I really hate being preached to about what's best for me too 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  19. Yep ... every single time the door opens I get the chills. I describe it a four seconds of pure terror followed by total release of all fear, stress or anxioty, You're totally free and in control. It's YOUR body, you own it, make it do what you want to do. I describe it to the Whuffo's this way ... do you have any idea how unnatural it feels to step out of an airplane at 13,500 feet in the air and look at the back of the propeller as you move through the air? By this point there ready to puke For me .... it's total control of my fears and inhibitions, I'm finially in control and looking back up at the plane I realize that I'm free. The fear of bouncing does not come back ... until the next trip up to altitude and the door opens again ... With that said .... I am on a "medical hold" after having 5 screws installed to hold my Tibia together so it forms the bottom of my knee but what I miss the most is that feeling of freedom ... as you let go of the plane and gently float away

    aad's

I actually can't believe you guys are even having this conversation ... that is about replacing an out-of-date AAD. Being honest .. if money is really tight and I do understand how that goes .. there are plenty of used units available. Your profile say's you build custom homes (not the cheap ones) in the san diego area ... Let's see ... how much does it really cost There are (365/year*12) = 4380 days The initial cost of the AAD - $1200 The 4 & 8 year mtc (250*2) - $500 The battery replacment every 2 years (skipping the mtc years) (85*2) - $170 Total cost of ownership of $1870 That's about .43 cents/day .... yea my life's worth that Most of us spend more then that on coffee or beer and we only "rent" that 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  22. Ok ... maybe this is a dumb ass question but when I read your post ... the thought WHY would you want to try that AGAIN ... immediatley comes to mind 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different

  24. Funny you should ask .... I'm about 6 weeks post op (Tibia Plateau Fracture w/ 5 screws) and I just recieved the attatched from Ingenix Subrogation Services Instead of filling it out .. with all the details I decided to call, the rep said all they were really looking for is if a 3rd party was involved I told them .. nope no 3rd party it was just a stupid accident and absloutley NOTHING about the details. The rep said I didn't have to send the questioneer back .... he had filled in the info while we were on the phone. 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
  25. I have a complete respect for any and all instructors out there .. especially the ones teaching AFF, I can't imagine what it feels like to let go of the student the first time knowing what MAY be ahead of hin/her in the jump ... clearly they (instructors) don't do it for the money or the glory However ... I do get a little dissiapointed when they don't assign some "home work". I was totally amazed at the detailed instruction provided in the Skydive University - Basic Canopy Flight video / manual. This should be absloutley REQUIRED reading. This video spends a significant amount of time going over flat turns and flying in brakes, landing approach and setup. Those first couple of jumps are tough ... with all that has to be covered in the AFF class itself there would be a total information overload trying to cover all that material but ... I was lucky enough to get a copy of this video when I bought my first rig. I'm going through AFF class now .. and on a "medical hold" cause I screwed up the landing ... TOTALLY MY MISTAKE and no reflection on the quality or throughness of the instructiors ... I just screwed up I'm at the point now when I'm just begining to realize how much I really don't know ... and how much experience and skill it takes to perform one of the "High Performance Landings" that make the canopy scream as you come around for a landing The up side is this hold has allowed me some time to read and go through some of this material. Now when I look back at my bad landing ... I realize a lot more about what went wrong and how NOT to get into that situation in the future. It has also taught me what to look for when I'm doing all those "Pratice Flares" at 3k. Now I think I can begin to relate that into the flare when I land Another good video is "Fly like a PRO" with John LeBlanc (Performance Design) .. where he teaches you how to find exactly where you are headed and if you will overshoot or fall short and how to adjust your canopy flight .... There's not enough time during the AFF Ground School .... but these training videos are very good. I wish more instructors would push them to the students .. post of the AFF ground class / 1st jump, it's really helped me understand more about what I was doing wrong in my landings and how to CORRECT it
