I agree totally ... we need a “SAFE ZONE” … a place with ABSLOUTE ZERO TOLLERANCE for weapons of ANY kind ... where the POLICE have ABSLOUTE POWER of SEARCH & SESIURE ... I know I would feel a lot SAFER then. Actually we do have such a place ... it's called PRISION and it's sure a lot SAFER then the "poor inner-city neighborhoods". Funny thing is ... the cost of these PRISIONS is staggering "Florida spent $2.719 billion in fiscal year 2007 on corrections" ... the murder/assault rate is astronomical ... but if you really think they would be better off please feel free to use my tax dollars to send these people there .. cause I sure want them to feel SAFE ... that includes all the people that are "concerned" about my right to keep and bear arms ... I sure want them to feel SAFE too In case you forgot what it says ... Second Amendment to the United States Constitution When are people going to get it ... it's the persons state-of-mind and lack of respect for human life that's the problem ! PRISION is an perfect example of that panacea ... ABSLOUTE ZERO TOLLERANCE for weapons of ANY KIND ... would you feel safer in a place like that ? In Your State: Prison Costs . Amtrak train passengers: Guns in checked luggage?
kmfenaughty replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
As long as they follow the exact same procedures as the airlines and there is no possible way for a passenger to have access to the weapons; no I wouldn't have a problem with it. Rest easy .... if they really wanted to kill everyone on the train ... all they need is BOX CUTTERS or have we all forgotten that in our zeal to HATE guns ! Remember ... my gun's have killed less people then Ted Kennedy's car ! What you really SHOULD be concerned about is the ENGINEER being (1) asleep (2) texting (3) Under the influence ... that's not to say that the state of our bridges and tunnels that those trains use should concern you either ! 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different -

Aaron "Crash" Moore-Memorial 9/11
kmfenaughty replied to pchapman's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
I chatted with him yesterday while he was waiting to board PAC load #8 ... it was the first time I had seen him in a while (since my accident) ... we talked about his rigging shop and how it was doing well ... I knew they (manifest) were looking for him when the load landed but I didn’t think much of it … given his ability I was not really concerned. I was on PAC load #10 … I left the DZ and went right through the intersection where he landed … no sign’s of any problems by that time. When I got up this am .. my wife asked me if I knew about the “accident” yesterday … that was the first I had heard about it. I pulled up the article on the WESH news page but they didn’t have much info … I found the thread under “Incidents“ forum but at that time whey were just saying “critical” … it was not until I got to work that I saw the post from “skymama“ I will remember Aaron because he was someone who was involved in the sport in so many ways ... as a skydiver, videographer, photo journalist, as a rigger and as a friend. I remember looking through "Skydiving" November 2007 ... in an article titled "Vintage Parachutes Get Aired Out Over Florida DZ" written by Nancy LaRiviere and I recognized another friend in the photo (far left in the Vintage Parachutes photo) ... I turned the page and noticed the "ride to altitude" photo with the by line "photograph by Aaron Moore". I showed my wife .. hey that's what the twin otter looks like on the inside. The next time I saw crash we talked about his photos. I saved that issue and pulled it out tonight. I clipped a couple of photos from the article and I wanted to share them ... I want to remember him this way … If anyone has any photo's of Aaron could you post them or just send to me. 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different -

OK .. so now you know why Microsoft is rushing around trying to "replace" VISTA .... I understand Dell is now offering XP as a "down grade" on new PC's because VISTA is soooo BAD. I work w/ Windows Server (2000,2003 & 2008), HP-UX, Linux, VMware & Solaris for a living .... and I'm seriously looking at the new Mac Book Pro for me instead of a new Dell. Microsoft clearly "jumped the shark" with VISTA ! Now to make matters worse or at least more complicated .. they scraped the NTBackup and went with a new and improved "VISTA Backup" .. good luck with that. You need to identify the folder that SIMS stores it's "user data" in ... and go from there. In the future ... get a stand alone USB drive ..... look at the "options" to see where it (SIMS) stores the data. You can install WinZip and create a "scheduled" ZIP backup to run on stuff like that. VISTA does do a better job of managing USER data ... http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_documents.htm http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/move-user-data-folder-to-other-partition/tutorials http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1371 Desktop or Laptop ? What type of handgun do you have for "home defense"
kmfenaughty replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in Speakers Corner
First .. switch over to Magsafe / Cor Bon or any of a number of Pre-Fragmented ammo's ... they are designed to "fragment" upon impact causing greater impact body without the risk of "over penetration" http://yp.bellsouth.com/sites/magsafeammo/ http://www.policelink.com/products/products/920-corbon-ammunition http://www.dakotaammo.net/products/corbon/convjhp.htm Second ... your premise for using the 10mm is inaccurate. The 10mm is much better suited for colder climates where it may need to penetrate several heavy layers of clothing ... here in Florida we don't have the problem. Don't misunderstand ... the 10mm is a very nice caliber ... it is much better suited for self defense when used w/ a pre-frag ammo. My prefrence is the G 27 w/ trinium night sites ... based upon (1) Reliability, Simplicity & Corrosion resistance of the Glock (2) The compact size of the G 27. The Ruger SP-101 (hammerless) in 357mag is also very good choice .. again w/ pre-frag ammo 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different -
Do you have any "friends" that are currently or have previously been on-the-job ? They are usually one of the best places to start for "real" info ... Your concerns are very real ... the simple "traffic stop" is one of the most stressful and dangerous parts of the job (so I have been told). You are usually alone and don't have any real idea of what you will face once you get to that window and dark tinted glass (factory / aftermarket) on the rear windows does not make it any easier Try and keep it in perspective ... you are an active skydiver. You are trained to anticipate any number of situations / emergencies ... you will never really know how you will do in those situations until you face them but we all know that each time out the door may very well be our last. Every jump has a significant "possibility" of severe injury and death ... we all know that and accept the risk ... Where we are most vulnerable is driving down the highway (I4 / 295) at rush hour ... we know that there is a risk ... when an emergency happens there were not really anticipating it and get caught off guard. Every time you gear up ... you do your basic safety checks ... make sure your aad is on ... and even have a "buddy" do a pin check before you exit the plane. Put the risk in perspective ... you have learned to depend on your ability and training as a skydiver ... now just do the same thing when your are on-the-job 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different

This happened a couple of years back now while I was still racing ... at least you had an expectation that the POLICE will actually do something about it rather then look for excuses for the "poor old guy" Car slams into 20 cyclists Three of the 13 hospitalized are reported in serious condition. No charges have been filed. http://www.futurelooks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6295 Scroll down on the page .... http://www.sptimes.com/2003/07/07/Southpinellas/Car_slams_into_20_cyc.shtml The driver, Joseph D. Pastore, 60, of Pinellas Park, told police he was trying to pass another car when he plowed into the line of bikes. Police are investigating whether Pastore, who carried a cane and has disability license plates, was impaired or suffered from a medical condition. Pastore, who was released from Ed White Hospital after the crash, declined to speak to reporters. No charges were filed , though an investigation continues. Two of Pastore's neighbors said he passed out in his car Friday. Neighbor Stephenie Payne said she was pulling out of her driveway and saw him. ~snip ~ The crash occurred about 8:40 a.m. on 30th Avenue N just west of 53rd Street, a thin ribbon of residential street. The 30 to 40 cyclists, many with the St. Petersburg Bike Club or the St. Pete Mad Dog Triathlon Club http://www.stpetemaddogs.com/ , were pedaling west. They had met at the main library about 10 minutes earlier and were on a trip that takes them to Clearwater Beach and back through the island cities. Most were going less than 20 mph. ~snip~ Witnesses said the eastbound Continental veered toward the cyclists, cutting into the group head-on about halfway through their ranks, then dispatching the cyclists like dominoes. "There's no way he could not have seen us," Ryder said. "He went to pass, he accelerated and he never slowed down." While cyclists were tumbled and tossed, the car sheared through their bikes, swallowing them underneath and snapping them in pieces. ~snip~ Pastore told police he tried to pass another car, even though he was traveling in a no-pass zone. Police want to find the other motorist, who was driving an older-model, light-colored, foreign-made car. That motorist is not facing charges, police said. 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different

Make absloutley sure your tent and gear is on "high ground" ... never been to Raeford but if you were going ot be in Deland in August (rainy season) you might want to try and put the tent on some kind of "air matress" to keep it off the ground. NOTHING spoils camping in a tent like a rain storm and have EVERYTHING get wet Keep your spare cloths in a tightly closed plastic bag (garbage will do) to keep em dry just incase ... Deland has shower's and washing machines .... check .. they say "PK Airpark has bathroom facilities with hot showers" nothing about cloths washers but they may be available nearby. Bring a good lantern (w/ extra batteries) and a book light to read ... a good air matress to keep you up off the ground .. just incase it rains too hope this helps .... 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different

A Canadian experience with Canadian health-care
kmfenaughty replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Canadian Medical Association president says their healthcare system is imploding http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5jbjzPEY0Y3bvRD335rGu_Z3KXoQw "(Canadians) have to understand that the system that we have right now - if it keeps on going without change - is not sustainable," said Doig. SASKATOON — The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country's health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it. Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made. "We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize," Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press. "We know that there must be change," she said. "We're all running flat out, we're all just trying to stay ahead of the immediate day-to-day demands." The pitch for change at the conference is to start with a presentation from Dr. Robert Ouellet, the current president of the CMA, who has said there's a critical need to make Canada's health-care system patient-centred. He will present details from his fact-finding trip to Europe in January, where he met with health groups in England, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands and France. His thoughts on the issue are already clear. Ouellet has been saying since his return that "a health-care revolution has passed us by," that it's possible to make wait lists disappear while maintaining universal coverage and "that competition should be welcomed, not feared." In other words, Ouellet believes there could be a role for private health-care delivery within the public system. He has also said the Canadian system could be restructured to focus on patients if hospitals and other health-care institutions received funding based on the patients they treat, instead of an annual, lump-sum budget. This "activity-based funding" would be an incentive to provide more efficient care, he has said. Doig says she doesn't know what a proposed "blueprint" toward patient-centred care might look like when the meeting wraps up Wednesday. She'd like to emerge with clear directions about where the association should focus efforts to direct change over the next few years. She also wants to see short-term, medium-term and long-term goals laid out. "A short-term achievable goal would be to accelerate the process of getting electronic medical records into physicians' offices," she said. "That's one I think ought to be a priority and ought to be achievable." A long-term goal would be getting health systems "talking to each other," so information can be quickly shared to help patients. Doig, who has had a full-time family practice in Saskatoon for 30 years, acknowledges that when physicians have talked about changing the health-care system in the past, they've been accused of wanting an American-style structure. She insists that's not the case. "It's not about choosing between an American system or a Canadian system," said Doig. "The whole thing is about looking at what other people do." "That's called looking at the evidence, looking at how care is delivered and how care is paid for all around us (and) then saying 'Well, OK, that's good information. How do we make all of that work in the Canadian context? What do the Canadian people want?' " Doig says there are some "very good things" about Canada's health-care system, but she points out that many people have stories about times when things didn't go well for them or their family. "(Canadians) have to understand that the system that we have right now - if it keeps on going without change - is not sustainable," said Doig. "They have to look at the evidence that's being presented and will be presented at (the meeting) and realize what Canada's doctors are trying to tell you, that you can get better care than what you're getting and we all have to participate in the discussion around how do we do that and of course how do we pay for it." Don't know that it works ... but it sure shakes them up. When they call telling me that I have won a FREE vacation ... I usually tell them I don't need the vacation but I sure could use a "lewinsky" ... they are usually shocked and not sure how to handle it. Another way it to try and get their full name ... so you can call them at home or ask if they have been tested for STD's and does their partner know about their "activities" .... Another way to to simply state that this call IS being recorded for (not by) Law Enforcment ... screws them up cause there usually VERY CAREFUL about what they say. Try and get them to speak clearly and state there name, who they represent and a way to contact them (phone number and address) .... May not stop the calls but it ALWAYS throws them off base cause it's not on the script there reading from. I currently use AT&T VoIP service that has an "optional" call filtering facility that allows me to enter ~30 numbers that are simply BLOCKED ... that absloutley stops them. The simpleist way is to look at the call display ... if it's an 800-xxx number simply DON'T answer it, if you answer it and talk to them then they know they got ya and will continue to call back. I personally like to SHOCK 'N AWE method 99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
