  1. Yeah, the S-Fire / Safire thing is quite confusing, but not nearly as confusing as the X-Fire / Crossfire thing given that the Crossfire was frequently called the Xfile for short! 2. This thread is about the S-Fire, not the safire.
  3. Comparing prices on chutingstar, I always get the Vector coming out notably cheaper than most other brands once loaded with main options on all. Several hundred dollars cheaper than a Curv, adn that's with Skyhook in the Vector and no equivalent in the Curv... 4. Yes I am. Cause it looks perfect on my monitor, but not on my TV. So the real issue and crux of my query is the settings or something on my TV or Kodi player, and not the file itself. If I could edit the first post, I'd change it to just saying "a 4K file", and leave that side of things at that, but it seems the window for editing has passed. 5. So here's an issue I'm having. I acquired a 4k file of Rogue One to replace my current 1080p file. Loved the film, so figured why not get it in the best looking way possible, within reasonable size limitations of the file. Checked it on my PC once I got it, all looked good, but my PC monitor is only a 2k one, but importantly for my issues, colours looked fine. Put it on my media server and watched it on my TV through Kodi and the colours looked awful. All washed out and as if the contrast/brightness was off. Blacks were grey, no deep shadows etc. TV settings hadn't changed. Immediately checked my 1080p version and it looked correct, back to the 4k version, all washed out looking. Checked it again on my PC, all fine looking. So, clearly there is something about 4k files that I don't get, and there's a setting somewhere either on my TV or in Kodi that I'm missing. anyone got any ideas what it is? The file is x265 encoded (like most of my stuff these days), and I do not know if it is HDR or not. Apparently it is a 10bit file, according to the source... So... ideas? 6. *ahem* not true. I bought a brand new Wings/Smart/Pilot quite a few years ago, did approx 300 jumps on it, sold it 3 or so years later for £79.70 MORE than I paid for it. I had rising gear prices and changing £/$ exchange rates to thank for that. Of course, my next set of kit cost a lot more than that, but that's not the point! 7. Well, technically who knows, as the Speed isn't mentioned with the V316. But for a general guidance, for a Speed 135 I look for an Op126. Wherever the Op126 fits, the Speed 135 should fit as well. And similarly for the Speed 120 and Op113. 8. The vector sizing chart makes no sense. V319: Loose fitting - Op126, Smart 110 Full fitting - Speed 120, Smart 120 V306: Full fitting - Op126, Smart 110... and Speed 120. How can the same Speed canopy pack so much tighter than two others (that I chose for this) in one container, but then pack basically the same as those same canopies in another container? Typo on the V319? But yeah I had a Speed 2000 120 in a SWS Fire Size 00 (made for PDR 106), and a Speed 2000 135 in a Fire size 11 (made for PDR 113). 9. Where does that other guy that's posted on here about building his own canopy jump? Go there?! Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  10. Icarus don't make the Crossfire 3 - that's NZ Aerosports. Icarus make the X-Fire. Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  11. I've jumped this canopy in 120 (WL ~1.5), 105 (WL ~1.7-1.9) and 100 (WL ~1.8-2.0 depending on the jump I was doing) sizes. It is very similar in flight characteristics to a crossfire2, which I've jumped in 119 and 109 sizes. I did find them to be slightly different though. The Odyssey dives more than the xfire2, was easier to hold in the dive than the xfire2. The Odyssey felt like it had more flare power than the xfire2. The Odyssey was a little, but not much, more responsive to inputs. Front riser pressure felt similar. Odyssey openings are not as snivelly as the xfire2, and I found them completely fine for a high performance elliptical. It dances around a lot, but the opening is generally controllable using rears when needed. I would frequently get a 90 off heading opening, but rarely if ever had twists. Disregard what the above comment says about it being some euro rip off canopy. It is from Europe, and it is similar to an xfire2, but it is not a rip off. It is an awesome canopy, and one I'd pick over the xfire2 every time. I have not jumped a Katana to compare to that. They are releasing a new version of it soon - Odyssey EVO - which has a schumann planform, but I know very little about how it compares. I love the canopy, and is my favourite canopy that I've jumped to date, even though I did fuck up a swoop attempt on it and spent 8 months out injured!! 12. You think you could have got a Speed 135 in that 306? Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  13. Having recently replaced Optimums in rigs I had with speeds I've noted the following: I had a container with an Op113 quite tight ish, it now has a Speed 120 and it is fine. Definitely less tight fitting. Another container had an Op 126 fitting Ok-to-tight, now has a Speed 135 fitting fine. Could I have got a speed 135 in the first container? I don't know, didn't bother trying as I'd still have to pay the rigger for his time if it didn't fit! The small increase in reserve size was enough for me! 14. But those aren't comparable canopies to the Pilot - different target market and experience level required. Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  15. I jumped a Pilot 150, 132, 124 and 117. with WL of 1.23, 1.4, 1.49 and 1.58. The flare was absolutely fine on all of them except the 117, where it was ok. I didn't have much basis for comparison when I jumped those Pilots. What I did notice though is that the main power from the flare was deep in the toggle stroke, so if your brake lines have been lengthened, you can miss out on some of the power giving the impression of a shit flare. That was the case on either the 132 or 124 that I had. Flare wasn't as good as I thought it would be, checked the brake lines and they had been lengthened by a previous owner, I got them set back, and flare was good again. Doesn't help I'm short so have proportionally short arms too! The 117 only gave me ok flare, plenty enough to land comfortably, but with more running off than the others, if I remember right. It's been a few years now. I changed to various fully eliptical canopies from there (Odyssey, Crossfire2) and yeah, the flare power of those was better than the 117 at least. 16. The secret is to not actually keep blowing... It's a closed system that just requires the slight pressure build up from "trying" to blow down the tube. Breathe normally and just build a little pressure in your mouth that forces some air down the tube. Once the pressure is on, the shutter activates and will keep doing so until you release the pressure. As it is a closed system you can just hold the pressure, without keeping blowing. It isn't the passage of air that activates it. However, I'd probably listen to your wife. Feel free to get a Blow Switch for her though! 17. Second rig - new or used? I'll answer that... Do you have enough money that you don't mind spending it on new kit? If yes, buy new. If no, buy used. Your post only mentions canopy. Are you wanting a compelte 2nd rig, or is just a second canopy to hook up to the one rig? 18. Ah, I wasn't. Didn't realise that's what you meant. Thought you meant the fixed right angle routing of the cable once it comes out your mouth. The right angle actual switch so it is like a T but on its side? If that's the case, that's not going to happen. That's Conceptus' design. I'm afraid if that's what you want, as Conceptus already make it, use a Conceptus! Sorry. 20. How about supporting British industry and innovation and helping fund future developments? Sorry, but I want to be sold it as a product not as a feel good pat on the back. You said you didn't need one so how can you be sold on one? The information is in this thread already. I'm only repeating it when I say smallest, cheapest audible on the market. Innovative with the app and future developments. Sorry if supporting a young local doesn't tip you over the edge. Sorry, maybe I wasn't as clear as I could have been in my original statement. I said I don't think I need one. Maybe there's something I'm not realising/appreciating on the capabilities of this. I don't need one as I already have devices that do what I want, but I wanted to know what makes this a better option to have than an Optima, as if I could be reasonably convinced on that one, I'd happily replace the optima. Also, maybe this has features that an Optima doesn't have, which could make this the better device to have? I was really just looking for real-life usage reasons as to why my kit would be better for having one of these. 22. Right, sell it to me. I've already got a Pro-track and an Optima 2... why do I need one of these? I *want* to buy one, as who doesn't want a new toy?! The price point is excellent, but I don't think I really *need* one. Unless you can convince me otherwise. I am open to being convinced, I just don't want to end up with something I won't use over what I've already got. 23. I wonder how many people jumping this canopy over the next few seasons will satisfy the currency and jump numbers recommendations/rules! Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  24. That's an awesome write up, thank you! I should add though that at the current time, I'm only selling the straight switch version, not the right angled (at the switch end) version. Just in case anyone orders looking for a right angle at the switch end one. The ones used by photognat were test/beta ones. (Right angles at the connector end are standard) I'll update here if and when that changes.
