  1. Thanks. Is there a basic qualification for people that are just authorised to pack reserve parachutes (like the BPA Advanced Packer rating)? Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  2. What are the names of the different USPA rigging qualifications? I know the BPA ones: Advanced Parachute Packers (APPs) Basic Riggers (BRs) Parachute Riggers (PRs) Advanced Riggers (ARs) Rigger Examiners (REs) in increasing order of seniority. What are the USPA ones? Thanks. Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  3. Don't know if something like this exists anywhere already, but I've decided to add a reserve packer section to my www.JumpTicketPrices.com website. Very basic, just lists the reserve packer, where they are based and how much they charge for a reserve repack, reserve assembly and repack, and full assembly and repack. Will hopefully serve to help people find reserve packers in their area without having to post a "reserve packer wanted in xxx area" sort of request. Anyway, as with all aspects of my site, it will only get populated if people put in the details they know, so any people that have some info on reserve packers it would be appreciated if you put that info in! http://jumpticketprices.com/packers.asp Thanks. 4. A gear check on the flight line would hopefully have spotted that packing error. I take it there wasn't one? Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).

  6. Info on these on a recent thread on uks here: http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk/cms/topic/23034-semi-stowless-d-bag/ I've ordered one of the http://www.compal.be/LazybagEN.html so hoping it will arrive soon. 7. I'm sure this list isn't exhaustive, but hopefully fairly close - here's a link to a database of tunnels worldwide: http://www.jumpticketprices.com/tunnels.asp Hopefully it'll give you some indication of where they are in relation to you. 8. Why would you want a larger WL on your reserve than your main? Why when you become confident enough to just jump a 190, would you risk jumping a 176 on the same jump if you have a reserve ride? If you don't or won't, then some decisions have been made wrongly somewhere along the line. I'm on a 109 just now and plan to stay in that canopy size for many hundred more jumps. If some time down the line I plan on jumping a Velo 84 or 96, let's say around jump 1000 for arguement's sake, which scares the hell out of me just now, but I buy it now to have it ready and waiting for when I want it... what's the bets I'd end up jumping it sooner than I currently plan? I think I would. So I'm not going to buy it until I'm ready and actually want it. Disclaimer - that was a made up canopy progression for me. I've got no interest in Velos at the moment. 9. I believe it is, yes. To me, the shape doesn't look quite right for a reserve handle. Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  10. That's not the reserve handle on the left of the pic, that's the unstowed brake line excess. The riser covers haven't stayed closed, so both risers have moved off the shoulders and are now underneath the riser covers. 11. That video of the jump from underneath is amazing! Not seen a bigway video from that view before, but it makes it look even better than the vids from above. Scary once the canopy opens though! Too many canopies near by for my liking! Think I'll stick with 4 way for now! 12. Awesome!! Look forward to seeing the video! Unfortunately my team aren't training again until August, so got quite a bit of 4 way filming down time to do the practicing in my head! So any vids to watch and learn from would be great. 13. I'm happy with the footage it gives me, so even if it isn't HD, it doesn't matter! I get the FOV I want, quality is good enough, so what does the price matter? 14. I use an Opteka 0.43 HD lens on a CX115. While I don't have a comparison to a GP3, does the underexpose by -1 apply to the 115 for better quality too? 15. Has to be 78mph vertical decent. If the pilot knows there is an AAD on board, he should fly accordingly around the activation zone. If it is a student version, then it should be switched off (according to the manual if I remember right). 16. Skydive Flanders - http://www.pcv.be/ Has 3 DZs in Belgium - Schaffen, Moorsele, and Zwartberg. I've jumped at Moorsele and I loved it there, fantastic DZ. And it is about 1 hour from Brussels I believe. Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  17. Nice videos! I'm currently on chapter 5, but so far it seems every problem ever can be solved by "2 full flares"! Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  18. In the UK, you are not allowed to jump without a helmet/frap hat (that i'm aware of)... so unwearable helmet = ride down. I've also seen someone get his container closed pretty much on run in. On a pin check, the closing flap had been put in the wrong place, so when checking the pin it also pulled out the pin. Fortunately someone had a pull up handy, the guy faceplanted on the floor of the plane, and man with pull up went to town closing the container on run in. Got it all done in time too. 19. I think "currently", the team I'm filming don't really get that far from the plane, which is why this exit has worked well for me so far, and was a contributing factor to why staying near the plane wasn't working so well. There have definitely been some exits where OC has literally just hopped a tiny amount and presented, with no room for anyone else! So as I get more experienced, and as my team do more exits I'll hopefully start to learn where works best for each exit. I imagine I will be re-evaluating when/if the team start making distance from the plane. Here are links to the exits I've done in this way so far from my 1st ever attempt in chronological order: edit: shit, the time links don't seem to be working. will try and fix that... Seems to work for me in Firefox, but not chrome or IE... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rziIEHlusAk#t=221s Go to 3:40 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rziIEHlusAk#t=292s 4:52 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rziIEHlusAk#t=365s 6:05 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rziIEHlusAk#t=442s 7:22 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rziIEHlusAk#t=503s 8:23 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rziIEHlusAk#t=649s 10:49 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rziIEHlusAk#t=717s 11:57 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rziIEHlusAk#t=788s 13:08 That last one wasn't quite as successful! All the above are on the same youtube video, I've just linked directly to the exit. And my last 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2jU8ram0ai4#t=8s 0:08 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2jU8ram0ai4#t=84s 1:24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2jU8ram0ai4#t=178s 2:58 I certainly feel a lot more confident doing this exit at the moment. I may have done, quite literally 4 or 5 more, but I don't have them on youtube. 20. No videos just of the exits to show from recent tries (not made one... yet) but I've had a bit of a change of position on exit now, which has resulted in much better footage of the team on the hill. Before I was trying to go straight back and be in the clean air between the formation and the plane, but I was having very mixed results. Whether I'd successfully film the exit keeping everything clear was quite random. I wasn't "seeing" the exits and was sometimes early, sometimes late... So, I happened to see footage from another cameraman filming a team that was training at the same time as us, and saw that he wasn't going between the formation and the plane, but out further beyond the formation into the clean air there. Gave it a try and my results have now been MUCH more consistent. So that's what I'm going to keep doing for the time being until I find exits that it doesn't work for, or my experience grows and I get even better ideas. Hopefully what I said here has been clear, if not i've attached a shit sketch of what I mean!! 21. To quote the manual for the unit: Most of these are easy enough to do, but I'm not sure how I'd check the unit on the way to altitude to make sure it unlocks at the required altitude, as the control unit is on my back in my rig, so not exactly easy to see. Here's a link to the English manual I got with the unit, copied from the CD to a file hosting website... http://www.filedropper.com/manualen031305 Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).
  22. Have now RTFM. Mine has the appropriate firmware to be set to "X-mode" which changes the expert version to a speed version. Also came with a M2 patch and a long (1m) and wide (2cm) pull up cord. Yearly user inspections are recommended, and an inspection record card is also included. Manual is on a cd. Now just have to get it packed in a rig... Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).

  25. Most of my ex-team were flying a combination of Safire2s, Pilots and Sabre2s at a training camp recently. Over the course of their approx 80 jumps I think they all ended up jumping each type of canopy. They are now buying team Pilots, as they all preferred the way it flew compared to the others. If they had a choice of canopy for a particular jump, they went to the Pilot each time. I've had 400 jumps on Pilots from 150 to 117s. Really enjoyed them as a canopy, had good fun out of them, not a single cutaway, as the openings were great and even if I had twists it flew flat and level for me. Had a jump on a Sabre2 135 recently, and while the flare point was higher in the toggle stroke than it was on my Pilots, it did seem to fly quite similar to what I recalled my Pilot 132 flying like. Both were decent to fly, although upsizing from a 109 xfire2 to a Sabre2 135 did make it seem more docile than I'm sure it was!
