Tiger did do his Tandem yesterday, We were prepared to do another in case he wanted to do it again and of course he did. The first tandem was basically a photo op with a line of 5 jumpers in the background. The second was an all out fun jump with more maneuvers. Billy VanSoelen was the instructor and Disaster Dave Wherley and myself were the videographers. It was really fun, and he seemed to have a blast. He is a really nice guy and pretty outspoken. The video and stills are awesome, unfortunately for some odd reason beyond our control (politics!!!!) We are not allowed to release any of the photos to anyone. I have no idea why, to me it is a stupid decision that robs us of precious media coverage and recruitment opportunities as well as promotion for the sport of skydiving. Sucks I know, I lost a BFT as well on opening and I have seen 4 go in in a years time, thus the mods by Bonehead. I found my helmet about 2 hours later and the thing was still on with the tape at the end. It recorded the entire thing to include the going in and never turned off. The funny thing was when it hit it was videoing 1/2 of a leaf and 1/2 of the screen was the sky, the next thing that happened was you could hear a crow squawing. I have about 40 minutes of a leaf on the tape after that. Luckily both the TRV-17 and the Nikkon N-90 were not damaged. The tandem didn't go off due to poor weather, however he is comming out in the morning for another attempt. The idea for the trip was not his, it was his fathers. It really depends on the instructors strength and what kind of canopy you are jumping in certain conditions. If I were jumping a 421 or an old 384 maybe, but if I were jumping an Icarus or a Sigma main, I do it all myself. If I can't flare a tandem canopy by myself due to exhaustion then I don't do tandems. It really is that simple! I had a 240lb. University of Auburn football player as my passenger one time who really did well and the practice landings were great. (He did nothing for me to doubt his understanding of what I was saying) I was jumping a brand new EZ384, approximately 100 ft. off the ground I told him hands all the way up, and 30-40 ft I said now pick up your feet, and with the speed and strength of a roid rage he burried the toggles sending us back up another 10ft. and with that said and done the canopy stalled. We were high enough that I had time to tell him "Alright we flared too high so pick up your feet, we are going to hit kind of hard and you are going to land on my lap.
