  1. Thank goodness Bush finally just went ahead and did it. Libs been crying about Pickering way to long. It was pathetic how Bush was treated at the MLK tomb. How about peace/love and unity from that side?
  2. Excellent posting Michele. I am really starting to like you.
  3. 2nd time I've agreed with billvon this week..... Let the parents decide. Steve knows more about crocs than anyone on this site. He loves his kids. I've done things with my son, (underage skydiving, high speed bike rides, scuba) all at a very young age for him. I prepared him for it and we were very conservative in what we did. His excitement was worth every stare and condemnation from the safety nazis. He is now 18 and a snowboard instructor for the winter. (not sure I want him skydiving..he is a little wild) Sorry you were called an irresponsible parent MissKris...only those who truly deserve it should be called such a thing.
  4. Nice post. Agree with you 100%. Wendy has also made some excellent observations. I continually find myself in awe (usually after many beers) when a newbie considers me a "death wish type of jumper" due to my rig having no cypres, no rsl, and I jump with no helmet. (there are people out there Bill who would not jump without a helmet also) Safety is great. God bless all the bells and whistles. However bells and whistles can fail. It still comes down to the brain in your head. You must accept the attitude that a cypres is a final back up device. If you as a jumper mentally cannot jump without one, you are at risk. Everyone jump safely this year.
  5. Dropped my son off 2 weeks ago at Winterpark. Lift Operator and Snowboard Instructor for the winter. I will PM you. If you and yours make it there hook up and have a good time.
  6. Here's the problem with Harleys...Lot's of noise but they don't go anywhere. You hear this god awful noise, turn your head to see, and 3 minutes later they are finally a mile away. Lot's of noise for people who do not want the speed. Old man's bike. Rice rockets being cookie cutters? Please....Harley riders all dress alike, and they all wear their little head condoms. Harleys are fine but please let's not confuse a fine high powered leading edge motorcycle, (that would be the crotch rockets) with an overpriced boat anchor that can barely get out of its own way. (that would be the Harley).
  7. Anvil, you sound intelligent. Monterey? Spent a year there going thru the Naval Postgraduate School. I was there in July for the Superbike Races. Next time I'm out there I will treat you to a jump. Good to hear from someone who isn't "bleeding".
  8. Actually I have a copy of the book. Mellow my brother.....
  9. The Maharushie is the dude. It is so nice to hear something other than the bleeding heart liberals. Rush, Hannity, my kind of boys. Ditto to all
  10. Excellent choice. Great all around bike. (this from a Ninja Rider) Buy it and go to MSF.....
  11. I agree that speed in the wrong place can kill and in the case of fast sport bikes.."Blackbirds"...can kill quickly. I live in Oklahoma. There are places here where roads are very condusive to going fast. The video shows this guy doing his thing on a busy interstate type road. (No offense but very stupid) The whole question here relates directly to skydiving. Start out slowly on 'forgiving equiptment". Learn the basics. With luck you will hang out with intelligent and responsible peers. At some point, you will be ready to upsize (bikes) or downsize (canopies). Responsible and sensibility are paramount. Any local area riders, Oklahoma/Texas PM me.
  12. For your first bike buy a used 600. New 600's are to fast and responsive for a new rider. The issue with getting a large sport bike is simply sensory overload. Remember your first jump? All large sport bikes are capable of 165 plus. If you have not been in that territory before, it can sneak up on you at the wrong time. You need to grow into the "speed thing" before you jump on a big bike. Going fast in a straight line is boring? Why are there bikes that do 170...180...190...? Can't believe that skydivers are writing that drivel. If you think laying on the tank at 165+, with your buddy next to you on his bike, with the bikes screaming....the suspensions working....totally concentrating....is really boring...you are not being honest to yourself. I believe there is nothing better than the new class of litre bikes. R1...GXXR 1000, ZX10R, RC51, 999....power, speed, light weight. Grow into these. They do not like newbies. An old 600, MSF, track days....in a couple years you will be ready.
  13. God...A world without cats.....what a wonderful place that would be.
  14. Enlisted Marine in Vietnam. Navy Officer flying Tomcats during the '80's and 90's.
  15. As a grad and a fan of OU, if we had to lose to a Texas team, losing to a class school like A&M would have been my choice. (can't stand those Shorthorns from Texas) Reggie makes Chrissie Sims look like the overated girlie man that he is.
  16. Beeville. Jumped there many times. Friendly little 'ol dropzone. Want something bigger? Go to San Marcos.
  17. My kid is 16. He has done 10 tandems. He will continue to do them. He has also logged much tunnel time. Mid summer he will be doing a mid week, "shhhhh..can't tell anybody AFF course". If you wish not to allow your kids to jump at 16, don't let them. Mine wants to. Luckily I know a couple DZs that are open to this. Old buddies come in handy.
  18. Even though I disagree with your view of "W", I love this thread. Used to go to the local watering hole after Philosphy Class and continue our discussions. Good times..........
