Goodbye McClellan (don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out)
OATSF14 replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
How do you guys really feel? No need to sugar coat anything... -
Morning Steve, I see your point. I purposely took my son when he was 15 to see Private Ryan. He grew up with my being a military dad and he loved the pretty uniforms, medals and such. I wanted him to at least see a representation of the "other side" of the military. "The Longest Day" and other movies of this type consistently amaze me that people die and yet no blood, no trauma. One of the worst in my view was "The Green Berets" with the Duke. (God Bless his soul. )

I thought I was the only one. Great movie but seeing brutality so realistically presented is a bit disturbing.

An intelligent thing to do. My first reserve ride was at jump 119. I was actually a much more calm jumper after that. I knew that I was capable of handling an issue should it arise and that my reserve would work. I don't think the excitement was due to your actions being "extraordinary" as much as you passing another milestone as a jumper. New people (tandems) on the DZ are usually treated OK but nothing special. Then one of them will start the student program and people start to warm up to them. Every success, every failure and every adrenaline rush you experience has been experienced by the regular experienced jumpers. "They have been there". I think the excitement shown was for an AFF student doing what she was suppossed to do under trying circumstances. In this case a high speed malfunction. What you experienced was the building of "camaraderie". It is a great thing to share.

Amen to that.

Haven't we all.....

I must totally agree with Bill here or perhaps go abit further. If a child is in the picture how far do you go to determine the true intent of the dog? If it were my small nieces involved and it was a dog that could do them harm I would shoot the dog without hesitation. (Amazon..would my SKS be OK?) The entire point of this thread is to keep your freakin' animals in your yard. If you let them roam free then don't bitch when someone shoots them. (bullets or arrows)

Thank you for the info. It will be done.

Enjoy. Hope you have a really nice time.

Thanks. I'm moving to Colorado in 2 weeks. Guess on my camping trips my SKS and revolver will be going along with me.

Marines Vietnam era. Came home started jumping civilian. Graduated and entered Navy. Was not allowed to jump while going thru flight school. Tried to get permission to go to jump school so I could wear a second pair of wings. (that went nowhere) Jumped off and on for many years depending on command climate. Out of the active military now. Military and skydivers still have the tightest camaraderie I have experienced.

Left arm while swinging on a vine (playing Tarzan), left arm 2 years later (playing dodge ball), left arm 3 years later (playing b-ball), right ankle sliding into home (safe), right knee (displaced patella), 2 ribs (hit by a bicycle), nose (pitching and a line drive hit me), coccyx (fourth jump under a round). Numerous stitches and 1 broken heart......

Agreed. Never trusted this guy.

4 of us started jumping together. We were all scared and anxious for several jumps. We made a promise among ourselves to continue for 20 jumps. The reason was simply that the experienced people seemed to be having so much fun. (this was long ago under rounds and a static line. When beginning freefall I was a spinner and many times I remember hating to jump) On jump #19 the light came on. Perfect stability, nice deployment, and for a round a nice landing. Haven't looked back since. Listen to your instructors, UNDERSTAND the fear is there for a reason and enjoy. It will become the most exhilarating thing you have ever done. (Exits are my favorite. There is something about "letting go") GEE Skymama is 40!!!! (Looks 20)

The Pieces of Eight Amputee skydivers Fly again

Good luck to you. I have always thought that if anything were to happen to me where I lost a limb simply knowing this group exists would do wonders for my rehab. Bob Clark has always been one of my favorite people. Well duh... -
Serno and Gordon (one is the head writer the other I'm not sure) were just interviewed live on the Rush Limbaugh show. (he is a fan) Chloe was also there but did not join in on the interview. Photo to be on the website by tomorrow. Apparently THIS COMING show is to be a very pivotal show in regards to Logan. Also there will be a movie to be filmed summer of 2007 and released in the summer of 2008 with an international flavor.

Agreed

I've been keeping up with this. Did some diving off Destin while going thru training at P-Cola. I like your friend. Sounds like a good weekend to me. I'll keep in touch.

Best Skydiving Movie EVER (Chris Cowden)

Class individual. (I enjoy your website) -
A fun thing to do. I will become concerned when we quit talking. This community via the internet is worldwide. Everyone is invited to express their views and opinions. I love reading the views from outside the US. INSIDE the US we have all states, religions, backgrounds, creeds and colors represented. This is certainly a recipe for passions to be exposed. I try and remember something my first Skipper told all of us newbies: "You can learn something from everybody". Sometimes that is hard to do but I try. Unified as a nation? 911....I remember the moon landing, everyone was pretty proud of that.....Pearl Harbor I'm sure of. Politics? Becoming ruthless. Used to be ex-Presidents would stay quiet when they were out of office. That has gone away. I do not see it becoming more civil.

How true....yet still curiously satisfying at times. Have a good day Bill
