Had my first chop today. First jump of the day, jump 36 for me. My new rig not here yet, using rental gear: Sabre 190, Laser 225 reserve. Pulled at 3500 and started spinning right away after opening. Had a couple of spins after opening previously on this gear so was not too concerned until about the third 360. I really couldn't see anything really bad above me, slider down, both brakes down and a little pucker on the leading edge on right. Did not see any lines over, but was really spinning. After about the seventh 360, I was down to 2500 and chopped. Got a nice reserve open and started to find out how the flare was while I had altitude. I found that a Laser 225 does not flare a lot. Put a couple of wraps on the brake lines and it got better. Had a good landing and got to put the first reserve ride in the log book, jump 36. Really wasn't looking forward to a reserve ride, but found that all that practice of the EP's paid off. Never did get panicky or scared, just did what I needed to do. "I'm not lost. When did you guys first jump?
RB_Hammer replied to chopperman1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first was a tandem at Eloy on October 28, 2006 at the age of 51. My girlfriends best friend said she wanted to do a skydive for her 30th birthday and asked her if she wanted to. GF said, "Hell no." Her GF said "Do you think Rick would?" GF said, "Hell yes." and I did. Started AFF in Buckeye, AZ on November 26, 2006 and got my A license January 27, 2007. Man I just love this sport and the people in it. "I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." Mathew Quigley -

Thanks for the offer. Might just jake you up on that, but not before June at least, gets plenty cold enough for me here already, I'm pretty sure I would freeze up on a jump there anytime before then, literally. Got my A today! Thanks Mr. B, Freeek, Wild Bill, John, Gary and all of the other guys at Desert Skydiving Center. You guys are all the best! Really looking forward to doing some RW dives. Really enjoyed meeting some of the Golden Knights out there today as well. Now I get to really start to learn how to be a good skydiver. "I'm not lost. Thanks for the reply. I have already ordered my first rig: Mirage G3, PD Specte 190, PDR 193 and a Vigil. I found this other for sale and wanted information about the canopies. "I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." Mathew Quigley

Can anyone tell me about this canopy? Is it ZP or F111? Is 190 truly the size? What time period were these manufactured? Is is square, semi-eliptical ...? Since I am asking, anyone have same information on an Amigo 172 reserve? "I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." Mathew Quigley

I've got a Solo in my ProTec. I also mounted it on the inside, speaker facing out. I can hear it no problem at all. I first had it mounted on the outside, speaker facing in, but it was too load and I was also told that with it on the outside, there was a good chance it would get knocked off and I would loose it. When did you stop being nervous?
RB_Hammer replied to Thomsen91's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am 51 years old. I did my first jump, a tandem, end of October, 2006. I should get my A next weekend. I get a little nervous each time. That is part of the appeal for me I think. Each time the 'nervousness' is a little different. On the first AFF dives with instructors, I was nervous about doing all of the things I needed and doing them right. On my first few solo jumps, I was nervous about jumping on my own. On my first hop n pop from 5,500, I was nervous about getting out and pulling stable. On my hop n pop from 3,500 I was double nervous, because of the 3,500 exit and because I did my first pack unassisted. That last was my most rewarding jump so far. I was out stable, missed the handle on first try and when I pulled on the second reach, I pulled and rolled over to my back on the left. I was able to roll over no problem and got a really good opening. Talk about a confidence builder! I have one last coached jump, the check dive and the written test left. I am sure I will be nervous about all of those. Once I pass them and get my A, I look forward to being nervous about jumping with others. After that, I have being nervous about jumping with my own rig. I hope I never stop being nervous! "I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." Mathew Quigley -
Damn dude, you don't have to YELL!!! "I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late." Mathew Quigley

Tandems, Hurting or helping membership?
RB_Hammer replied to thedarkside's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
October 21, 2006, my girlfriends best friend said she wanted to go skydiving for her 30th birthday. She asked her if she wanted to do it too. My girlfriend said, "Hell no.". The best friend asked, "Do you think Rick would?". My girlfriend said, "Hell yes.". She was right. I had always wanted to do it, but, well you know, just never got to it. We did a tandem, the birthday girl, her husband and I. We had minimal training, but were wearing an altimeter and we got to pull. I loved it! Walking off the landing area, I told my girlfriend, I wanna do this! I started my AFF course on December 2, 2006 and now have only 4 more jumps, if all goes well, to get my A. So for me, the tandem was the thing that got me started. Would I have never started without the tandem? Who knows, maybe, but after I did the tandem there was never any question that I was going to do this. "I'm not lost. I don't know where I'm going, but there's no sense in being late."
