  1. Was that 27 miles up hill both ways and in the blowing snow?
  2. What a GREAT group of people with an AWESOME idea. I had the honor of being a part of their first scrambles at Skydive San Marcos last weekend and it was incredible to say the least. to John McDonnell (Demo), Ray Privitt, Charlie Powell (Tuna), Jerry V. Ross, Demos daughter (sorry I don't remember her name) (I hope I didn't forget anyone) and all of the fine staff at SSM for making this happen. There were a total of 4 teams, I was the least experienced on my team and we took 3rd!!! Thank you George, Kristine and Alex for the most fun skydives I've ever had and all of the knowledge I gained from all of you!!! I'm glad that someone else provided the beer because I had so many first that it would have taken me several trips to the beer store to buy enough! 4 way 5 jumps in one day competion medal time on creepers etc..... Thank You All!!! http://www.texasskydivingassociation.com/index.htm
  3. One of my favorite songs, Tracy Lawrence tells it like it is!!! Run your car off the side of the road Get stuck in a ditch way out in the middle of nowhere Or get yourself in a bind lose the shirt off your back Need a floor, need a couch, need a bus fare This is where the rubber meets the road This is where the cream is gonna rise This is what you really didn't know This is where the truth don't lie You find out who your friends are Somebody's gonna drop everything Run out and crank up their car Hit the gas, get there fast Never stop to think 'what's in it for me?' or 'it's way too far' They just show on up with their big old heart You find out who your friends are Everybody wants to slap your back wants to shake your hand when you're up on top of that mountain But let one of those rocks give way then you slide back down look up and see who's around then This ain't where the road comes to an end This ain't where the bandwagon stops This is just one of those times when A lot of folks jump off When the water's high When the weather's not so fair When the well runs dry Who's gonna be there? You find out who your friends are Run your car off the side of the road Get stuck in a ditch way out in the middle of nowhere (Well man, I've been there) Or get yourself in a bind lose the shirt off your back Need a floor, need a couch, need a bus fare Man, I've been there Oooh yeah.
  4. "The weather turned ugly on the way to alt. Winds shifted 180 degrees, became high and gusty, her canopy collapsed due to the gusty wind at about 20ft. resulting in a hard landing and a broken Femur." Ya just never know!
  5. Jumpship...jumpsuit, whats the differance?
  6. Even now, I learn from non-instructor qualified experienced fun jumpers at my DZ. They have the experience and time to help me out with my problems and questions. The instructors at San Marcos are AWESOME but... they are also very very busy so trying to catch one of them, unless it's a simple yes or no question is almost impossible, even after the beer light is on they are usually tired and not wanting to talk about work and I can't say I blame them. I failed my hop n pop twice with lots of advice from the instructors (ARCH,relax, look at the plane, straighten your legs, ARCH LOOK, REACH PULL) and then I read somewhere on here to make sure that you touch the back of your head to the top of your rig!!! WOW what a simple concept? It worked for me. Bottom line for me is that I listen to a little bit of what I hear everywere and try to sift out what makes more sense to me and try to use it during a jump.
  7. Try a electrical or communications supply store, they sell ceramic scissors that are used to cut the kevlar in fiber optic cables. Graybar is one of the largest and have offices all over the country. http://catalog.graybar.com/servlet/BugsEye?reset=T&cmd=login&username=guest&password=guest&mode=BugsEye&language=en-US&config=graybar_dot_com&variant=graybar_dot_com&query=Search&quicksearch=kevlar+scissors
  8. Only $300? Aint that better than nothing? Let me see...$300 divided by $21 (the cost of a slot at SSM) 14 jumps for FREE!!! I agree I used it to get my better half to let me buy a container "Baby it will be a $800 savings!" Whatever, it worked and I got a brand new container!
  9. I failed my hop and pop twice, what I was told is ARCH (hard) LOOK (at the plane) RECH and PULL, take your time and RELAX!!!!
  10. Ya didn't have to go alllllll the way to vegas to jump!!! (oh wait a minute...my first tandem was in vegas) Just drive up to san marcos, one of the best DZ's in the world. I just got my A license there so if you like it in vegas come on out, PM me and I'll meet ya there. BTW I am with a search group in SA also, The Heidi Search Center.
  11. Ok I think I got em resized this time
  12. I bought and used on of these this year, I paid a hundred bucks for it but it saved me $825 off of the articulated harness. I think I made a good deal. Now if I can just get canopies and a AAD I'll put it in the air!
  13. I hope our DZO doesn't read this! $21.00 to 13,500 in the Supre Otter
  14. Our DZM and my stepdaughter on her 18th B-Day, we love these pics!

  17. I was climbing a 10' ladder last sat. to install a camera, I got all the way to the top when I noticed something buzzing around my head then I fet the sting. My first reaction was RUN! Bad idea when your 8' in the air, I realized this when I tok the first step. Then my skydive training hit, PLF. I landed, rolled and ran like hell. I ended up with 3 RED WASP stings, one on my jaw, one on my shoulder and one on my back. Ended up in the emergency clinic monday morning because the sting on my jaw had spread all the way around my throat and down onto my chest. Got a steroid shot and some good antibiotics and the swelling has gone down this morning. Freakin Texas Red Wasp!!!!
  18. Did my A license check dive, went and bought beer and then got "the STAMP" They tried to put it on my forehead but it was too sweaty so they settled for my right ass cheek!
  19. As a Marine we were taught that the ball on top of a flag pole was called a "TRUCK". It is said to contain a bullet and a match. The match is to burn the flag if it touched the ground, the bullet is to shoot the son-of-a-bitch that allowed it to touch the ground!!!
  20. Yesterday was my step daughters 18th birthday and we took her to do a tandem. I wanted to be in the plane with her but also be on the ground when she landed so we arranged for me to exit first and her to go next. I spoke with her video guy and told him that I was going to pull at 4K but that I would track to make sure I was out of his way. He said that was ok because he usually pulls at 3K, but just make sure that I didn't track up the flight line. Usually when this guy is doing video he is on the ground, has his rig off and has plenty of time to get his camera off of his helmet and video the landing. Well I exited, tracked and pulled at 4K, I looked and saw the tandem deploy and then the video guy deployed about 10 seconds later my guess is that he was at about 4K. I watched and waited for him to begin his normal spiral of death to get down before everyone else, also hoping to be able to geek her video a little when I landed , but he just hung out and took video of her under canopy. So I started doing some spirals and playing around so I could get down. There was little wind, about 5mph and when I turned in on final I was a little high at around 500 ft so I did some flat s turns and landed. I looked up and the video guy was coming in right towards me, he landed and walked all over my canopy, got a little tangled in the lines and was kicking to get out of them, it is rented gear. He then gets in my face and tells me that he couldn't get down because I was doing s turns all over the LZ and that I held everyone up. That was only my 26th jump but have been told by all of the instructors and staff that I am good with my canopy control, I had all of my acuracy landings done my first 5 jumps off radio and can usually land within a few feet of the peas. Maybe I was wrong doing the s turns but I don't believe that I held anyone else up above the dz. He even told my step daughter that it was my fault that he didn't get her landing on video!! But he got some really good stills of it. How should I handle this? Thanks!
  21. i am almost done with my AFF, levels 13 and 14 this weekend (this will be my 3rd attempt at my hop and pop :-( ) The instructors and coaches have been great with their patience and willingness to share their knowledge of the sport. Not to mention the DZ Owner and Manager always have time to talk and have even offered to do coach jumps with me if I get stuck on something.
