First of all Mark, I am not aware of your backgroundbut I must say that I am disturbed by your use of the word "ragheads". I see it as an ethnic/racial slur. It is no different then using racial epithets against African-Americans or other Ameicans who are not Caucasian. Like me..I am serving (learning how to) serve in the military and I will give my life for this nation and the principles that it stands for. Also, I think Sangiro would agree that use of such language is a violation of the forum rules ie (No personal attacks). Second, they already don't have any rationale to attack us..other then what they understand Islam (which is one of their basis for attacking us). Agreed Clay, but the degree must be analyzed and quantifed. The axiom that "Violence never solves anything" is a lot of tripe. ie (WWII, Hiroshima and Nagasaki..etc)Up to a point..but in solving the immediate problem, it may create greater ones in the long run. (ie supporting the Mujadaheen in the Afghan-Soviet war). It is possible..but too much $$ is involved for it too be much of an effect..we'd have to shut down our economy do it. You could write a book,(many have), study them as a career (many have) and not understand(many don't). There are so many reasons... If I remember my history correctly, (correct me if I'm wrong) Many are religous based..ie (Israel claims original ownership of the land (Biblical references). Many radical fundamentalists refer to history and the Crusades undertaken by the English to retake the Holy Land..so we are seen as invaders...ironic considering we are seen as "People of the Book". Islam allows the concept of "jihad". Most translate that as "holy war"..it is closer to "holy struggle". There are rules to jihad..no attacking noncombatants..any olive branch MUST be accepted. The land now held by Israel was promised to the Palestinians by the British..then the UN decided after WWII to give that land to the Israelis..obviously the Palestinians are not happy. So. theh concept of jihad tto interpet that we are infedels and jihad can be conducted because they see the US/Europe interfeing in the Muslim community (I wonder where tthey go that idea?) IMHO, we do, because our economies run on oil... The voters will not stand for an oil embargo or prices to rise...so its a catch 22..we're dammed if we do, we're dammed if we don't..
