Nova's judgment day: Intelligent design on trial
frequentfaller replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
copied from http://www.religioustolerance.org/ Organized religions, more than any other human institution, can influence public behavior and moral codes -- either for good or bad. Many organized religions lack a proper balance among their teachings of the believer's responsibilities. Religious and political leaders should emphasize that their Ethic of Reciprocity applies to persons of all religions, not just for fellow believers. Until the religions of the world realize that they are a main cause of hatred, strife, and genocide, the slaughters will continue unabated. Since Christian, Muslim and Hindu countries all have nuclear weapons, the need for religious tolerance is urgent. Born ok 1st time. -

Yes I know. There are probably a couple hundred choices. If we are talkin different religions, denominations within those religions, subsects within those, even more than I have heard but I was asking maadmax, hoping to give him insight of the no god option, that seems to escape him. --Proof for God is easy if you look where He manifests Himself. -- But if you are still struggling with whether He exists or not, you need to start at the beginning. vague religious retorts god is everywhere but look where he manifests himself.(huh?) i need to start at the beginning of what? --Maybe that explains why there are atheists. my feeble attempt at humor. internal presense?there is no one in me except me. --I am not sure what you mean, but if you are lost please spend the effort not to stay that way. let me see i can explain. what you label my spirit, i label my mind. you know, that grey thing in your head it's making you think you have a spirit. nope not lost, no effort needed. --Most true. But as you must have guessed by now, a relationship with God is personal experience. For us, what we have experienced is proof enough. ... cool we agree. Yes, this great life is a personal experience. yet no proof. but you say you have experienced proof? Born ok 1st time. -

What I was taught god is everywhere at all times. There are plenty of those billboards, mailbox junkmail, crazy dudes downtown wearin end of world signs. I comprehend, its just my inward gaze doesn't see a presense. I think that would scare the shit outta me. I know myself very well. My "spirit" ? You mean my mind? Here is where I will get a vague response. quoteing bible passages, that I am lost. number of people that believe isn't proof. Born ok 1st time. -

Are you so close-minded that you can't recognize the value of differences of opinion that generate more discussion? Apparently, yes. When thiests can't explain their belief, it's always athiests are "close minded". In actuality it's the opposite. I think that most athiests come to their conclusions gradually. In childhood we go to church, pray before we go to bed, put out cookies and milk (opps... sorry wrong deity). We read, learn, and start questioning everything we are taught. Evolution or creationism, god or no god, Why does the kid down the street not follow the same religion as me? I love different opinions. It makes me question what I think I know or don't know. It's the way my small mind works. show me proof. Born ok 1st time. -
, I will gladly be a fool for God, than an intellectual with a closed mind. ... I haven't seen any closed minds in this thread yet. I have learned and enjoyed reading the posts. I have a small mind not a closed mind. Born ok 1st time.

If you divorce yourself from the unproven outcomes of religion. The heavenly rewards for belief or the eternal damnation for nonbelief.Because I think the average person thinks "well i don't know if I really believe in god, but in case there is one I better go through the motions at least and follow the rules, cuz eternal damnation sounds pretty sucky". Just use logic, the way science demands of itself. Constantly questioning and testing what we think we know, to look for different or better understandings of the reality we experience around us. There is zero proof of supernatuaral beings existing, or occurences ever happening anywhere or anytime. All religions make questioning the beliefs bad sins. I have questions. why create my mind this way? Why do 3 major religions, that worship the same god, the god of Abraham, hate each other? They all believe in Jesus too. just believe differently of who he was, or his importance. Christians - son of god/ Jews- trouble maker/ Muslims - important prophet. one day god will be like "Jesus?...who?.. I'm not sure who you talkin about. Buudda's my boy". Born ok 1st time.

OK i was trying to figure out how to label my non belief. Am I atheist or agnostic? I do what every sinner does I got down on my knees and prayed to google. (agooglest?). It sent me to about.com. which told me I am an agnostic atheiest. Interesting read about atheist vs agnostic. It said there are agnostic theists and agnostic atheists Born ok 1st time. -
