Obama's spending and the National Debt
frequentfaller replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
yeah, both sides should be tossed out on their ass. clinton did a good job gettin the budget under control, after reagan got the military built and the russian wall down. clinton had no war to fight, an unstoppable economy, with the internet boom. both bush terms were heavy spender. his 1st term was 9/11 wrecked economy, he pumped in cash for that + war in Iraq and afghan. economy has been out of control spending on credit since last couple years of clinton and all of bush. our country should have its cards cut. bush spending on war and keeping fake economy afloat. obama spending on his govt projects. primarily medical coverage for everyone.$$$ we dont have. not gonna work. we will be too far in debt soon. OUR fault. dems and repubs whiney finger pointers, need to figure out how to fix our economy, not how to get re-elected. Born ok 1st time. -
then obama is the devil? so i equally offend both sides... bush used to be the devil. now we have a new one? Born ok 1st time.

sounds like press hoopla bout nothing. They have said the program was started by the counterterrorism center at the C.I.A. shortly after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, but never became fully operational, involving planning and some training that took place off and on from 2001 until this year. “Because this program never went fully operational and hadn’t been briefed as Panetta thought it should have been, his decision to kill it was neither difficult nor controversial,” one intelligence official, who would speak about the classified program only on condition of anonymity. “That’s worth remembering amid all the drama.” Born ok 1st time.

The Economist says (again) to legalize drugs.
frequentfaller replied to lewmonst's topic in Speakers Corner
nothing about passivism. this "war on drugs" has been going on 30 or 40 years. the drug problem in the U.S. keeps getting worse. legalize and government control distribution. govt makes money off of weed. regulates better quality hard drugs for the abusers cheap even free for homeless. eliminates all drug related robberies, stealing and killing to be able to afford next fix. the cartels stop making billions of dollars. why go to black market for drugs, when better quality and cheap at govt clinic? you can keep on fighting the black market, but as long as there is billons of dollars in it, there will never be a shortage of peolple ready to join black market. kill the $$$ value of product and you kill the black market for that product Born ok 1st time. -
How long would the opposite of this exist? Oh yeah, two days.

Its the different belief systems of people. religious are organized and believe it is their duty to fight against sacrolige and blasphemy. their god would want them to. non-religious aren't organized (or at least not to the extent the religious are) and usually ignore or are just used to the religious crap thats everywhere. What good have the Vatican done for the people?
frequentfaller replied to 434's topic in Speakers Corner
one interview was with the former director of vatican observatory who agreed that science and religion shouldnt be mixed. when the religious texts were written, 2000 - 3000 years ago there was no science. sea monsters, a flat earth, witch burnings were common. modern science has nothing to do with religious texts and vice versa. The other interview was with father Reginald Foster, the Pope’s principal Latinist. he agreed with maher on the audacity of the vatican castle and what jesus would think. and how the catholics in italy were polled on who they pray to for help (jesus was #6) i guess you pray to other saints and arch angels too. i have to agree with vr on this one. legalize the drugs. weed can be given to the tobacco companies to produce. hard drugs in govt controlled clinics 21 and over. i think it will cause a drug use increase at 1st, but after the glamour(cocaine rich people drug) finally wears off, people will see that hard drugs are bullshit. make you feel horrible the next day. there will always be people who get hooked on it, just like alcohol, but at least it will be a lot cheaper, so they wont have to resort to crime to fuel their habit. not to take us off the subject, but I was on the train going to work today and a girl next to me told me I was rude for not blessing her when she sneezed, blowing snot and spit in her hand. Is that shit in the bible? thou shalt ask thy lord to bless thy snotty bitches. do muslims bless each other? Born ok 1st time. -
Agnostic atheism, also called Atheistic agnosticism, encompasses atheism and agnosticism. An agnostic atheist is atheistic because he or she does not believe in the existence of any deity and is also agnostic because he or she does not claim to have definitive knowledge that a deity does not exist. The agnostic atheist may be contrasted with the agnostic theist, who does believe that one or more deities exist but does not claim to have definitive knowledge of this. It is possible for an agnostic atheist to subscribe to either strong or weak atheism, independently of his agnosticism. Individuals identifying as agnostic atheists may justify their position by reference to epistemology, theory of justification or Occam's razor Born ok 1st time.

interesting Phenomenology page. http://www.brocku.ca/english/courses/4F70/ph.php On the relation of culture to self Gadamer says, Long before we understand ourselves through the process of self-examination, we understand ourselves in a self-evident way in the family, society and state in which we Live. The focus of subjectivity is a distorting mirror. The self-awareness of the individual is only a flickering in the closed circuits of historical life. That is why the prejudices of the individual, far more than his judgments, constitute the historical reality of his being. 10. In order to 'understand' one must 'foreunderstand', have a stance, an anticipation and a contextualization. Born ok 1st time.

I am having fun. I like discussions, I dont try to prove. I try to learn. new ideas, differnt points of view not sterotyped. religious fundamentalists believe sacred scripture is considered the authentic and authoritative word of their religion's god or gods. I dont know what percentage of any of the religions believe that their scared text is inerrant word of god or gods. I'm sure there is a wide spectrum of belief. from strict following of the text(s) word for word, to a looser basic belief without following all the rules. I just am trying to understand who the fundamental anti religious are? I dont hate religions. I find some of them interesting. I am trying to find out who these anti religion "zealots" are? the only impact I fear is when the fundamentalists try to put religion in schools. i dont know what impacts the "real" science advocates. Born ok 1st time.

except if you're a fundalmentalist. of either type either type of what? religion? yes 1 - the fundamentally 'religious' types 2 - the fundamentally religiously 'anti-religious' types both will rationalize anything they can get their hands on to spread their holy messages fundamental religious - believe bible literally, creationism, the earth is less than 5000 years old, its center of the universe, adam and eve were real people, noahs ark.....bla bla bla they have a real problem with any modern science. fundamental anti religious - not sure who you are referring to. vocal atheists? extreme left wing kooks? science - just wants tangible, testable, repeatable, proof. science likes to be disproven. it means we have learned something new. there are no theroies in religion religion = you believe it or you dont science = if you verify it according to an established standard of evaluation, then its theoritacally probable. great thing about science - if you prove something wrong, then we have learned something new. bad thing about relegion - if you prove something wrong, then you rot in hell. What good have the Vatican done for the people?
frequentfaller replied to 434's topic in Speakers Corner
googled definition: Abstract J.L. Schellenberg’s Argument from Divine Hiddenness maintains that if a perfectly loving God exists, then there is no non-resistant non-belief. Given that such nonbelief exists, however, it follows that there is no perfectly loving God. To support the conditional claim, Schellenberg presents conceptual and analogical considerations, which we subject to critical scrutiny. We also evaluate Schellenberg’s claim that the belief that God exists is logically necessary for entering into a relationship with the Divine. Finally, we turn to possible variants of Schellenberg’s case, and argue that the modifications necessary to accommodate our criticismas leave those variants with much less of a sting than originally suggested by his provocative formulation.
