Responding to "Swooping is not a crime"

I have been trying to keep up with this depate which is going on on 5 different threads. Is it getting anywhere? I just have not had time to read all of it and find out if it is getting solved or not. -

DZ's that have restrictions on swooping
justinhawxhurst replied to Sonicfreefly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
The dz I jump at in Sweden has a 600 jump minimum before you can do a hook turn. If you are new to the DZ and have over 600 jumps you have to be watched for 25 jumps before you can make one. -
I am from California but living in Sweden. I go to Norway every few weeks. You do not need a visa for Norway to be there for up to 3 months. If you have any more questins feel free to pm

For myself I have 4 which I am working to change

THanks for the reply. I live in Chamonix and know what he was flying over. It was some great flying as there is no room for messing up and no landing fields for a long ways from his flight path. Deffinetly some good flying. Thanks again.

I would like to find out how many he has. 61's quite a bit lets see who has more.

I was wondering on how many different DZ's people have jumped or who has jumped the most different dZ's around the world.

I am still nw in the sport and would like to fly wingsuits when I am ready. I did notice the tail flapping. Why is that. I know this should be on the wingsuit forum but it was mentioned here.

There is a very sensable idea. To just make a blanket rule is going to make it hard for some dz's to comply. A more general rule that has some guidlines is what is needed. just my .02. I also feel that the other jumpers can make a big impact on the jumper that is making things un safe. I have low jump numbers but have been competing on the top level in the free ski world for years and when I am on the mountain if someone cuts an avalanch above me and buries ( which has happend more than once) I am going to let them know my point of view no matter if they are a beginer or the worlds best skier or guide. I am not going to go patitioning to close the hills. If they are doing it all the time then the communtiy around is going to make sure they are not going to do it again

To add more on this if you are so good and only sell your shots then all it took was less then 2 full memory cards of shots and all your gear was paid off so what is the problem then it is not price of gear.

Experiencein skydiving has nothing to do with my coment. I am a photographer and writer for over 5 magazines world wide as well as an athlete who dose catolag shoots for clothing companies around europe. where do you get the idea that skydive numbers make you the MAN in photography. Skydiving is such a small (which is giving it lots of credit) in the photography world that if you are a good airlal photographer you would love to have your photos seen and published even if you have to give a few away or let them be in a gallery. Its kind of like a artist showing off his work so that people actualy know his work exists so that he might fund someone to buy the work. If you don't show your work somehow and it sits on your computer then how are you ever going to sell it. How about getting off your high horse and looking outside the box. If not for yourself but for the sport

It has already been said but to make a rule that will not be able to be followed by all dz's becouse of the size and landing areas is wrong. It should be set out for each DZ to patrol their own LZ and do what works for them to make it safe not make a rule from a building in some town somewhere to say you have to do this when they do not know what the dz has for an landing area.

Thats an audacious coment. You must be the sky god of photogaraphy. Every magazine and ad firm must be on their knees begging for your shots.

Responding to "Swooping is not a crime"
justinhawxhurst replied to pop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"I apploud those who have been in the sport for years and year, yet remain progressive and continue their education, and training. Those people I look up to. But anyone who says "children today aren't taught respect" when one can only assume youre meaning "swoopers", isn't deserving of respect. Blatant disregard for any type individuality, and a blanket statement such as that is sad, and offensive. IMHO, its just a step away from a personal attack." Thats a nicer way than I was going to put it. If it were not for the new and young skydivers the sport would be dead in a few years. Just as with skiing snowboarding and all the free sports that have been saved by the new kids and the X-Games. If you are going to use that S#"t about the next generation haveing no respect then dont complain when there is no new development in canopy and safty equipment. I am sure this same kind of argument came up when canopies went from round to square. What happend it changed anyways and the sport got safer and bigger. -
I was not saying its not. I was just making a point about negative coments that have nothing to do with a question by a new skydiver who wants to learn. Why cant you start to ask questions and study up on things, watch videos and get ready for things to come. To just say go do another 100 jumps dose nothing for the person who wants to learn. This coment is not spacificly to you just repled from your post
-
What ia am saying is why tell someone not to do something when they want to learn. in sted of helping the learning process and incuraging. The original post was not "I only have 15 jumps do you think I am ready to freefly" He was asked "i would like some beginners hint, for a "gonna be freeflier"
-
"My advice (and I'm a freeflyer) is stay mostly on your belly for at least another 100 jumps! " Why? Ok but the fact of learning to fly and be in controle why hold back when you can also do FF jumps and lear this as well. I have 75 jumps and 25 are sit jumps. I can hold a good sit as well as cartwheel left and right and hold heading. I found that it was hard at first but because I was told to not quite and keep trying that I got it. I am glad I was not told "Your not ready go do another 100 jumps." I know lots of jumpers that have 200+ jumps and they cant sit because they never try and just say "Oh i cant sit fly" Just my thoughts.

You hit the nail on the head here "fuck the skypricks, its usually the 2nd string players in this sport that have the "i'm too good4u attitude" " I have been skiing profesionaly for 10 years as well as other sports and what I have found is that the top players in the world usualy have no attatude as they do not need it they show there stuff where it counts, riping it up in their sport. The ones that suck and have shit attatudes are the ones that are good but just could not cut it to be the best and have to vent it some way usually on the kids that are up and coming and could some day beat them at the game they have tried so hard to be the best at but just could not cut it. I was think it of starting this exact convisation today. This should be a fun one to keep updated on.

Value (or not) of The List (World BASE Fatality List)
justinhawxhurst replied to jimmyh's topic in Archive
I am not a BASE jumper but have just lost a long time friend in the BASE world ( Stefan Oberlander) so I hear what you mean when you speak of lost friends. On the other hand I am a pro skier and have lost at least one friend a year and up to 7 in a year for the past 10 years. I do feel that some of them would still be here if there was a place that they could of read about all the others that have passed and seen the risk in what they were getting into. Most of the deaths have not been new kids but the veterans of the sport yes they know what they were doing and that is not the sad part the sad part is when a new kid gets in over his head and ends up dead do to ignorance. As a new skydiver but an athlete who pushes the limits which can and does result many death I think the list makes me step back and think a bit more on "Do I want to get into this". AS for not having a list of the other sports There is not one because it would be many books long and impossible to keep updated. Just my thoughts and rip to all the lost friends and family. -
Thats kind of what I thought I have had them done on kites for kite surfing but the guy who did that did not think they would stay on the canopy canopy.
-
I am living in Sweden and am looking for a company who can do logos on canopies. I can send my canopy just about anywhere in Europe but would prefere some where in the north. Thanks for any help on this
-
Not much more to say he will be missed. Stefan was the reason I started jumping. fly free my man love ya
