I would not want to have only Instructors with money as you put it. Currency I think is very important. You guys are talking about smaller DZ's and jump numbers. You need 6 hours of free fall for AFF and 500 jumps for tandem. So I dont understand your argument. You don't want to put a currency requirement on ratings but as you say its hard to get 250 jumps in a year. So lets say the average jumper does 100 jumps at your DZ. It would take five years before they could get a Tandem rating. That's what you guys are dealing with now. I don't think anyone here wants to make it harder on the smaller DZ's at all. Just want to put out better instructors. Putting a currency requirement would not change anything at your DZ. If I guy/gal only does 10 jumps one of those years. I really don't think getting that said jumper current before going for their rating and last If they cant afford to jump , how the hell will they afford the course? You hit the nail on the head. We can still run into trouble If you start the timer at a A. A jumper could get his/her A, then not jump for a couple years then come back. What is the difference from that and what your saying ... Nothing. So their has to be away to stop these loopholes... Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

Exactly A little over exaggerated on the 30 feet. His student is like 5 feet from him. Not saying everything else is excusable but come on lets not have a lynching on DZ.com. The old saying Is believe half of what you see and nothing on what you hear. The video only shows part of a story guys. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

Jan was on the USPA Board of Directors for a time, Ozzy. & don't forget, she's a rednecks nightmare~ A smart, opinionated, southern California woman...be afraid, be VERY afraid! I am that's why I asked her what her agenda is. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

You seem to have a lot of knowledge with the inner workings of USPA. Id like to ask what your agenda is? Between this thread and the AFF to easy one. I was just wondering... Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

Im not sure anyone is freaking on the Internet. I know that USPA has seen this thread and some will agree that at least their need a discussion on this matter. Can I ask you a question? Do you think there needs to be a change? If so sign the petition. If not dont sign. As stated before the petition is just to get them ( The Board ) to starting looking into it. To see if there is a better way to produce safer and more qualified instructors. You clearly have more experience with the Board. If numbers is what you think they will want. Look into it. Again as stated before the thing going on at local DZ's are not reported , Like losing a student or cypress fire. If there were no injuries it wont get reported. So we dont know if that number is up or down as they didnt report it in the old system either. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

With tandems it happens all the time. Iv seen at least 10 TI myself take the coach course one week and TI the next... Thats why I think the one year as coach works in all systems. Make coach 200 jumps C with one year wait time to Get a I. Learn to work with student before you teach them as a I... Make the I a 3 year D requirement like it is for tandem. Make all I's the same. Simple is better. As for IE's and there courses. The ones I dealt with handed me nothing. I worked my ass off for them.. A year IE meeting or every two years like AFF IE's have would be a good thing too Can we keep to one discussion? I understand skydivers often have ADD (I do myself) but this conversation has now gone from the AFF rating to changing AFF and I/E's to changing AFF, I/E, Coach, Coach I/E, and now Tandem. Focusing on broad sweeps is counter productive and a recipe for guaranteed failure. I also don't believe this happens "all the time." The numbers are fairly easy to prove. Prove em. Not sure why you see that way... Its one in the same. Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

Thats one way to look at it. Or you could look at it as someone becoming a Instructor would have to teach for a year before getting a instructor rating You say sit on the coach rating. As of now I could of done a tandem 6 years ago and really got into skydiving this year. I have done 500 jumps this year and go get my tandem rating only being really in sport for one year. Since I did a tandem 6 years ago I have meet all requirements. This can happen now. All im trying to do is get the word out that requirements should chance. Times are changing. People are getting higher jump numbers faster. Lets slow the rating processes down to make better instructors thats all Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

USPA Safety and Training Comittee: I have seen a growing amount of support to make some modifications to the current process to become a USPA Coach and a USPA AFF Instructor. I respectfully request that the topic be brought up for discussion at your earliest convienence. Some suggested changes: 1. Increase the requirement to be eligible for the USPA Coach rating to 200 jumps and a C license. 2. Add a 12 month as a USPA Coach requirement to be eligible for a Tandem I or AFFI. 3. Add a AFF jumpmaster rating to all new graduates of the AFFCC. 4. Add 12 month requirement as a AFFJM to be eligible for the AFFI rating. Obviously, this would open up the above for discussion and require input from all parties involved. Thank you for your time, it is greatly appreciated. Recap 2 year C licence for coach 20 coach jumps and one year as coach before any I rating ( Three years D license For I Rating ) AFFI One year min. 20 AFFI jumps for probation .. After whice Full AFFI signed off by Experience AFFI working under for past year. I think this would produce better instructors. Jump numbers are one thing. I think time in sport is just important. My 2 cents USPA could grandfather in anyone already in process. This requirements could be for all new rating holders.. I put the petition here so more people would see it http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3758159;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Never give the gates up and always trust your rears!

The problem with that is money... Why should a student pay for someones apprenticeship. So with the way you guys are suggesting, The student would have to pay more so the new AFFI can learn. Most DZ's in my area are one jm jumps. To add the new rating they would be just riding along getting experience. Who's paying for that? (STU is) Im not saying things shouldn't be different.
