Does your DZ try to guilt you if you have a cutaway?
iluvtofly replied to -SK-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The only time I've seen a DZO truly get upset about someone chopping was when they refused to help look for it. Was the malfunction your fault? Doesn't matter. You jumped rental gear, it is your responsibility to help find it. I know you said it got dark soon after. Did you go out any other time to help look for it? Should they have given you shit for chopping? In this instance it sounds like the chop was warranted so no. I also have known DZO's to playfully give people shit for things they did and it get taken the wrong way. Is it possible you missed a hint of sarcasm? You gotta have a pretty thick skin in this sport for what I've seen. Not saying what they did was right, just saying that it may have been misinterpreted. -
They had delayed it for an hour. Now they just added another 30 minutes to the weather hold. This is not a good sign.

If you swing a bit North we're having a big Halloween boogie at Skydive the Farm just West of Atlanta on the 11-14th.

Well on a good note the two stolen rigs have been recovered. Don't know details of where or how but at least they have them back. That REALLY REALLY sucks about the plane. I don't think a skydiver would intentionally do that. (Although I tend to be too trusting.) Maybe a local doesn't like the boogie being there every year? I dunno. Either way that's just wrong.
-
Holy crap!!!! They found the rigs already!!! I don't have any details on where or how. But the owners have posted a pic of them rejoined with their babies! Thanks to whichever mod made this a sticky. It was greatly appreciated.

I don't know all the details. Just copied and pasted his post to try to spread the word as much as possible.

A friend posted this on facebook this morning. I know he was at Chicks Rock. Hopefully someone sees it today!

From a friend on Facebook. I hope he gets his gear back.

Hahahahaha. Yeah I know how that goes. Before I even left for LP I talked it up so much (just cause I was so excited) that several people in the office (including the VP) said they wanted to see pics when I got back. Yeeeeahhh...there was a "heavily edited" folder on the desktop and those were the ONLY pics they got to see.

So many different activities make me happy other than skydiving, it just depends on what mood I'm in. There are some weekends where all I want to do is stay home and putter, but maybe that's just because I really love the home that Mark and I have created. Maybe when you're a homeowner, you'll understand. Taking care of your home is just a different sense of happiness and accomplishment.

I actually love it when I have a completely clean house too. I agree having a clean how is comforting and nice. But would you consider it an "exciting weekend" if that's all you did?

One time back when I was an EMT/Dispatcher we were going to do night jumps at my DZ. Before I left work that afternoon I called the 911 center and let them know what we were going to be doing, and that with the chem lights taped to our arm/legs, and the flashlights on our helmets, they would probably be getting a lot of UFO calls. We ended up doing 4 porter loads of night jumps. Next morning I got to work and there was a message for me to call the supervisor of the 911 center. I was informed that there were 147 UFO sightings that night. All the dispatchers tried to explain to the people that it was just "dumb ass skydivers" but no one would believe them. Apparently several people got pissed that they wouldn't send the cops out to investigate.

Like many of you, I have a "normal" 9-5 office job during the week. I put on the professional persona and carry on. However, listening to the conversations of the people around me (I don't really talk to them a whole lot due to a lack of common interests) I really wonder how they can live such boring/sheltered lives. Unfortunately I know ALLLL about Honey Boo Boo cause it's one of their favorite shows. I could also probably tell you what is currently happening on a lot of shows that I have never seen. Yes, I watch TV and talk about 1 or 2 shows that I love with others who I know like them as much as me (Walking Dead is my absolute favorite) but it's not the majority of my conversations. (Also, apparently South Park is the most "unfunny" thing known to man and references to it shouldn't even be allowed on channels other than Comedy Central.) Every morning I also get my daily dose of Jesus (no offense meant to any one religious out there) thanks to them reading their daily devotionals together and discussing them. If religion is your thing, that's fine. But I personally don't want to be hearing about it on a daily basis. Do that at home. I think the real kicker was the 20 minute conversation this morning about "bad words". The one lady was going on and on about how she felt horrible for saying "crap" around her 16 year old niece cause it was such a bad word. I wonder if she realizes exactly what kind of words that girl has probably heard in school? All of this on a daily basis makes me wonder what they think of me, and what they would think of me if they truly knew who I was and how I act when not in the office. I'm fairly boring during the week cause I have to be at work. But I could never imagine living that life 24/7. They consider it an exciting weekend if they spend it gardening or walking the dog (which from the sounds of it only happens maybe once a month). To come in on Mondays and hear, "My weekend was so great. I got the whole house dusted, the garden weeded, and even had time to vacuum" makes me think about telling them all about my weekends spent at the dropzone. hahahaha So, after this extensive rant with really no point (sorry, they're just driving me insane and I needed to vent a bit) I guess the big question is, are we really that abnormal to lead the awesome, amazing, adventurous lives that we do? Or are the people I work with unusually boring and sheltered? Pretty sure some of them have never left the state of GA either. lol

This is probably one of the most ironic threads ever.

This is a great idea! As a judge this would be incredibly helpful. I'm a visual learner. So reading about the move in a book doesn't really help me much.

Really? You want an exact time that something is going to happen? A) It's the Farm. B) It's being run by TDS, DPH and WW. Does that answer your question???
-
Oh yes. That one will be quite interesting. Friday night there will be a contest involving TDS, DPH and Wicked Wingsuit temporary tattoos to see who can be the most creative with them.
-
There's also this little known guy, Luis Prinetto, who is going to organize some freefly stuff. Doubt you've heard of him though.

Pay it Skyward was SkyFest's motto and I, for one, firmly believed in that. And you made it obvious that you STILL believe in that.

Some of us know Grue. The original DZ.com Holiday Boogie, back when if we had 10 DZ.commers at the same DZ it was a legendary party! Is there a story you can tell to those of us who didn't own a computer more than 3 yrs ago? Sound like fun! there is some photographic evidence floating around the web still.... I wanna see!!!

It pays in the experience of getting the best seats possible to see the best swoopers in the world do their thing. It kills me that I can't make it.
