  1. Think I can find one with a 5 ft long handle? I dont think I could get any closer than that too them... Probably not one with a 5 ft. long handle but ... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  2. You all don't know how it all works. Let me explain it ... God creates the world from the emptiness (Day 1 through 6). Brahman reincarnates everyone from the emptiness into the world (Middle of day 6). God has the rapture (End of Day 6). The Flying Spaghetti Monster hosts a feast (Beginning of day 7). Buddha takes everyone into the emptiness and waits for the cycle to start all over again (End of day 7) ... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  3. Get one of those hand-held vacuums to suck up the spiders and keep every nook and cranny of your house clean ... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  4. I guess its because I have some understanding of evolution as an explanation of the biological sciences VS the institutions and relationships people construct with one another.... which is to say evolution has nothing to do with this conversation. Evolution from a biological point of view has nothing to do with this conversation. Evolution from a theoretical point of view has everything to do with this conversation. After all, from a theoretical point of view, evolution is about adapting (evolving) to survive and replicate. Institutions, relationships, etc... are constructed to increase the odds of survival and replication. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  5. Ok, you believe that only a few innocent people get convicted. Ok, you don't believe in the death penalty because of the few innocent people that you believe get convicted. Wait, you care that the few innocent people that you believe are convicted don't receive the death penalty but you don't care that they are raped on a daily basis? PS: I also find it interesting that you condemn others for advocating (or using) torture while advocating torture (being raped on a daily basis) yourself ... way to go! "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  6. How do you know that compassion isn't a by-product of evolution? If it is, it would probably (in the long run) end up being selected against. It's a trait that would have us expend our energy and resources on things that drag on us as opposed to give us an edge and help us survive. I don't know. There was a point where humans were no longer just surviving but were also starting to thrive. At this point the greatest threat to humans were humans. Compassion helps reduce that threat allowing more humans to survive and the ones that are better adapted (evolved) to thrive ... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  7. How do you know that compassion isn't a by-product of evolution? For you, life is not "about" evolving. That doesn't mean that life is not "about" evolving for others. We didn't stop evolving, we changed how we're evolving. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  8. You believe in evolution, correct? Yes. I'm just trying to understand how you can believe that life is about adapting (evolving) to survive and replicate and then complain that a group that isn't adapting (evolving) is being taken over by a group that is adapting (evolving). "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  9. He admitted to raping, beating, and strangling two young women ... ... and was then executed without due process. Another bad series of events (that will hopefully be learned from) with a good conclusion. PS: I'm sure you loved the fact that ... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  10. Why? Yeah why? Why could someone possibly support a group of poor people who want autonomy over where and how they live their lives. No you are right 70(+) Chinese paramilitary forces are probably in that part of Western China because everyone there accepts the Chinese state as legitimate and there is no need for the Chinese to implement their monopoly on violence. You believe in evolution, correct? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  11. Why? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch

    Torture

What about all the torture that occurs due to beliefs in a particular government, dominate sex, dominate race, etc... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  13. Awesome. Seriously, read up on what the scientific definitions of the words hypothesis, theory, law and fact are. According to your own article: Thus, a theory could become a fact when the ideas of the theory are confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent. How is this incorrect? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  14. Bleedin' heck. How many legless lizards do you know which still breed with their legged counterparts? The key word is incapable ... Bleedin' heck. How many legless lizards do you know which are capable of breeding with their legged counterparts? Either you don't understand what incapable of interbreeding means or you are trolling ... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  15. Bleedin' heck. How many legless lizards do you know which still breed with their legged counterparts? The key word is incapable ... "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  16. I don't hope more people agree with you or me. I just hope more people skydive (and decide for themselves what it is about) so that there will be more people for you and me. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  17. No, that's why I asked you to explain the difference. A reptile losing it's legs would be micro. A reptile becoming a mammal would be macro. Those are anecdotal examples. Please, explain the difference. What are the definitive characteristics that make macro-evolution different from micro-evolution? Micro evolution occurs within a species. Macro evolution occurs when a species becomes a completely different species (that is incapable of interbreeding). "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  18. The very fact (pun not intended) that you put (currently) in brackets implies that you think the theory could become a fact, which would mean that you did not understand the difference between fact and theory. The bracket implies that I think the theory could become a fact given future discoveries, technology, etc.... The very fact (pun not intended) that you don't understand how theories can become facts means you do not understand what a fact or theory is. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  19. No, that's why I asked you to explain the difference. A reptile losing it's legs would be micro. A reptile becoming a mammal would be macro. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  20. I have nothing against sharing stories or the desire to belong to a group. However, there are individuals who don't necessarily want to listen to stories or have a desire to belong to a group. They just want to skydive. What is wrong with that? Wait, is it about connecting you to whatever and whoever came before you (by eating, drinking, listening to stories, and becoming indoctrinated into the sport) or is it about separating you from whatever and whoever came before? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  21. No, you are. Evolution is both fact and theory. Micro/macro is misleading and irrelevant, and if you think only one of them is fact and only one of them theory then you are, again, quite wrong. Micro and macro is not misleading or irrelevant because it is the micro that is fact and the macro that is theory (currently). Do you understand the difference between micro evolution and macro evolution? "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  22. Very wrong, in several ways. You also seem to be under the impression that fact and theory are steps on the same hierarchy of truth/proof. They are not. If you don't believe me ask a professional. Are you even reading what I'm writing? I doubt it because I'm not the one confusing fact and theory and their relationship. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  23. I'm confused about the 'currently' bit. Does that imply that they were the same thing, say last week maybe, but the way evolution works has just changed, and they're now different? No, it implies that they may become the same thing. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  24. They are the same thing. The only difference is the interval on which observation is made. They are not the same thing currently. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
  25. Are you replying to me? I'm going to assume you weren't replying to me. "That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
