I haven't decided. Wireless is shorter? Do you shoot 18mm or 15mm? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

My first post would have been a few days before my first jump, Aug 31 1999. I predate the current "registered on" data field by about a year, IIRC. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

You'd think so, but there's not a lot of FTP setups with flash. Most of those that were setup had custom mounts made to put the flash on top. I'm wondering if there are peeps out there who put the flash on the front mount, and of those that did - how far forward did they have to push their SLR with a 15mm? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

No, you haven't. However, for your shooting convenience, my lovely wife Craichead and I will both be at Perris April 21 - 24th. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I just took apart my FTP, and I can't decide how to put it back togeather. The purpose of my adventure was to make room for a flash. 550 or 580 + battery pack. I took the 300D off the front, and was planning on putting it up top, side by side with my Dbox'd PC120. I need the PC120 to be in a Dbox otherwise I get condensation on jump-run. I usually use a Sigma 15mm with the DigiRebel. I was planning on putting the flash on the front bracket. I see now that the flash is within view of the Sigma 15mm, unless I pull the camera way forward on the helmet, or push it half off the side. When I pull everything way forward it feels unbalanced. Of course, pulling it all foward also gives me room to put the battery pack on the back. To people jumping with ALL the shit up top, where have you put everything? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Illinois Governor: Fill Contraception scripts
AndyMan replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
Should a Catholic also complain when he's asked to perform a Bar mitzvah, or is it maybe simple enough to say that are some jobs that a person just shouldn't take? I think most Catholics would disagree with your (and the churches) suggestion that they shouldn't be part of a system that uses birth control. I know of Catholic doctors, pharmacists, and patients who all gladly perscribe, sell, and take birth control pills. Strangely, they're all able to sleep at night. On another note, I find it odd at how quick the Church is to jump into a conflict with science. You'd think, given the historical precedent, that's a conflict they'd rather avoid. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
Illinois Governor: Fill Contraception scripts
AndyMan replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
I think your simile falls apart because the pharmacy is there to provide a critical service. Unlike a restaurant, it's more like Com-Ed deciding they won't sell a certain thing to a certain person, for whatever reason. Or, a soldier on the front line deciding his orders go against his religion. Denying medical care can make people seriously ill, and its a travesty whenever people don't get the care they need. It's even more of a travesty if its a part of the medical system causing the problems. Birth control pills are a lot more than a tool to avoid pregnancy. They also effectively control hormonal imbalances, which can manifest in a lot of different ways, some of which include vaginal hemoraging. If left untreated (with birth control pills), such issues can sometimes be fatal. Pharmacists play an important part in the medical system. They're foot soldiers, when the doctors are the 4-star generals. When the people on the front lines start ignoring their orders, people die. A pharmacist has no business refusing to follow the orders of the doctor. Because they took an oath to serve public health, they don't get to make that kind of choice. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

No, you reply by saying "I hired a pharmacist, and you're refusing to do your job". Having a pharmacist hold religion as an excuse for not handing out drugs makes as much sense as a jew refusing to deliver the Eucharist working as a Catholic priest. If his beliefs are a contradiction with the job, he should find a new job. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

I had a friend buy a laptop on ebay. He was defrauded, never got the laptop or his money back. I'd be very hesitant to ever buy anything on ebay unless it was so cheap that loosing all your money wouldn't hurt. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I love Bill Maher's editorial on Salon. http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2005/04/01/abstinence/index.html Abstinence pledges suck -- literally As news spreads that teens who pledge chastity have lots more kinky sex, millions of aging boomers ask: Where was Bush when I was in high school? - - - - - - - - - - - - By Bill Maher April 1, 2005 | New Rule: Abstinence pledges make you horny. A new eight-year study just released reveals that American teenagers who take "virginity" pledges of the sort so favored by the Bush administration wind up with just as many STDs as the other kids. But that's not all -- taking the pledges also makes a teenage girl six times more likely to perform oral sex, and a boy four times more likely to get anal. Which leads me to an important question: where were these pledges when I was in high school? Seriously, when I was a teenager, the only kids having anal intercourse were the ones who missed. My idea of lubrication was oiling my bike chain. If I had known I could have been getting porn star sex the same year I took Algebra II, simply by joining up with the Christian right, I'd have been so down with Jesus they would have had to pry me out of the pew. For a bunch of teens raised on creationism, these red state kids today are pretty evolved -- sexually, anyway, and for that they can thank all who joined forces to try and legislate away human nature, specifically the ineluctable urge of teenagers to hump. Yes, the "What do we tell the children?" crowd apparently decided not to tell them anything. Because people who talk about pee-pees are potty-mouths. And so armed with limited knowledge, and believing regular, vaginal intercourse to be either immaculate or filthy dirty, these kids did with their pledge what everybody does with contracts: they found loopholes. Two of them to be exact. Is there any greater irony than the fact that the Christian Right actually got their precious little adolescent daughters to say to their freshly scrubbed boyfriends: "Please, I want to remain pure for my wedding night, so only in the ass. Then I'll blow you." Well, at least these kids are really thinking outside the box. There's a lot worse things than teenagers having sex, namely, teenagers NOT having sex. Here's something you'll never hear: "That suicide bomber blew himself up because he was having too much sex. Sex, sex, sex, non-stop. All that crazy Arab ever had was sex, and look what happened." Well, that's our story -- of how faith and the party of smaller government combined to turn your kids into a generation of super-freaks. Which shouldn't be surprising: Prohibition didn't work, "Just say no" didn't work, and I understand there's a host of Americans who illegally obtain and smoke marijuana. They're the ones who've been giggling every time I say anal sex. salon.com _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

From the AP, here quoting the LA Daily News: http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,200~20954~2770828,00.html Who's surprised? Study: Abstinence-pledge teens likely to experiment By Matt Apuzzo, Associated Press NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Teens who pledge to remain virgins until marriage are more likely to take chances with other kinds of sex that increase the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, a study of 12,000 adolescents suggests. The report by Yale and Columbia University researchers could help explain their earlier findings that teens who pledged abstinence are just as likely to have STDs as their peers. The latest study, published in the April issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health, found that teens pledging virginity until marriage are more likely to have oral and anal sex than other teens who have not had intercourse. That behavior, however, "puts you at risk," said Hannah Brueckner, assistant professor of sociology at Yale and one of the study's authors. Among virgins, boys who have pledged abstinence were four times more likely to have had anal sex, according to the study. Overall, pledgers were six times more likely to have oral sex than teens who have remained abstinent but not as part of a pledge. The pledging group was also less likely to use condoms during their first sexual experience or get tested for STDs, the researchers found. Data for the study were taken from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. An in-school questionnaire was given to a nationally representative sample of students in grades 7-12 and followed up with a series of in-home interviews roughly one, two and six years later. It was funded in part by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Leslee Unruh, president of the National Abstinence Clearinghouse in Sioux Falls, S.D., called the study "bogus," disputing that those involved had pledged true "abstinence." "Kids who pledge abstinence are taught that any word that has 'sex' in it is considered a sexual activity," Unruh said. "Therefore oral sex is sex, and they are staying away." _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Ok, now I'm confused. First you said " Compressed in size to allow for the smaller element. " Now you say it's a standard EF mount...? I guess I don't know what you mean by "compressed to allow for the smaller element". Do your lenses work on any camera with an EF mount? What happens if you try to use the lens with a full frame (ie, film or high end) body? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I've already had to discard a lot of good equipment when I made the switch from Nikon to Cannon. The last thing I want to do is build a collection of lenses that won't work with a future body. I think. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

What's your favorite every day digital lens? I skipped the kit lens when I bought my 300D, so I don't have a good every day lens. I use a crappy 35-80mm f/4-5.6 that I borrowed from my film SLR, but it's not nearly wide enough for digital, never mind the crappy depth of field. What do people use for a good, every day lens while shooting digital? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

US Supreme Court - is it Bound by the World Court?
AndyMan replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
Do you also think the treaty shouldn't protect Americans who may be in foreign countries without the proper paperwork? When I was traveling Europe in 91, it was required for me to submit my passport at the border and get it stamped as I moved from country to country. Most of the border guards didn't bother inspecting my passport, they just waved the car through without inspection. I didn't get many stamps, so technically I was illegal in most of the countries I visited. I am also aware of a Canadian who has at times been illegal in the US, not because he tried to avoid DHS (formerly INS) in the slightest, but because of laziness and burocratic bungling on behalf of border officials. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

Craichead and I will be down in a few weeks. What's the deal with IHOP? Are there private rooms? Is it a good option for couples? Any one loading a Velo120 @2.1
AndyMan replied to freekflyguy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a lard-ass, and am looking for a canopy that will support a high wingloading... I didn't like the idea of going all the way to a velocity 120, it really is a huge step. Instead I'm probably going with an airlocked 135. The airlocks do seem to help the canopy in slow flight at higher wingloads - not as good as crossbraces, but still better then nothing. Check out a Samurai 135. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
